I used to buy gold eagles, but fell in love with the Sovereigns and buy those now instead. Just so cool to get a coin that is older than me with all that history.
Sovs are awesome.
Because they are coin of the realm you do not pay capitol gains tax on them!

@@Makaveli4725 Last time I bought a bunch of Sovs gold was 1300 and oz. Today it is just over 2k. So yeah, it seems to have out paced inflation a bit. But remember that PMs are a hedge against inflation.

If you can’t hold it you don’t own it.
Most importantly, a gold coin in your hand never defaults and it's weight cannot be devaluated.
Sovereigns are a stackers best friend.

I bought a Half Sovereign circulated 1800s, sat with it in my hand dreaming of where and who had handled, owned this coin, I went on a fantastic imaginary journey
In 2005 Chard offered me £50 for a 1989 gold sovereign 500th anniversary capsulated in original presentation case and told me why he should'nt even be bothered over something of such low interest that worth no more than scrap. Within a couple of years prices shot up. Just shows how much he knows.
the chard guy has a sports job and one of his staff advised me the best gold and silver is the cheapest gold and silver you can manage to purchase,makes sence really

To sell. When the gold sovereign was 199. 8 to 10 years back my father bought 3 half soverighn young head Q V they charged him 895. Extra fine how much would these be worth now the soverighn is 360 to buy
At my lcs the premium is 1-3%…. I buy smaller ones when I can
The coin in itself is relatively inexpensive. Take in consideration the age and gold content, history, beauty and what is not to like. I have many and will not part.

The 22k purity isn’t really an issue as it’s know that a sovereign is 7.98g of 22k gold or 7.3224g of pure gold, now a new sovereign costs £414.50 and the gold value is worth £384.28 so it’s only £30 premium which gold can easily make in under a year so you’re guaranteed results by holding sovereigns, plus it’s CGT and VAT free in the U.K. and it’s a cheap way of getting fractional gold. For example a 1/4oz which is 7.776 grams then you pay £447.10, it’s value is £408.08 which is a premium of £39. So the £9 you save on a sovereign is easy and they’re easy to liquidate.

Sovs are the best gold coin to invest in hands down.
Every other "coin" is just a bar in coin form.. theyre gimmicks.
Sovereigns have real novelty.
Personally though, i would prefer small cast bars for gold that is easy to handle as im not british.

You can get a Sov graded MS62 for $850AUD while melt value is $771 AUD, so your really paying $29 for history & $50 for grading. When you swap your paper money back you'll probably get more.
Yes because I can go metal detecting and find one close to home that I then can sell, but to find a gold nugget I need to travel a few hours to get to a spot to find one and when I do, I cant sell it without paying for miners rights and a claim title from the government.

I think in Europe the best option for stacking gold is the Gold Sovereign. You can buy and sell them anywhere and at a very small premium and even at spot price many times.(not semi's and proofs)
Also another strong point is, you might score a very rare sov that the seller has no idea of the numismatic value...

If you buy as a long term investment then yes. Just don't expect to make money overnight.
I have 2 Isle man gold proff sorvighn Xmas limited to 150 no 4 and higher angel and Robin running in woods the last Isle man before late Q2 I paid 1k each from London mint and cpm wil, they ever be worth more ..anyways the 2g 1/4 bu Paris games is now ordered 10 by weight they are cheaper than a full anyways if anyone reads cojld let me no if tje 2 coins wojld be more valuable has they do ,are collecsions look special

I’ve heard Is release don’t want them. If you ever had to sell, the online dealers will give you decent money for them. Such as they are selling for $565 and online dealers are giving $535. I wouldn’t say that’s much worse than buying a 1/4 oz gold eagle for $645 selling it for $588 🤷🏻♂️
A lot of peoples problem is they don’t shop around. Buy from the cheap dealers and sell to the high ones 👍

However slabbing a coin sort of 'locks' up its liquidity. You miught just as well get cheaper sovereigns (loose proof or bullion grade) for their gold content.
I have a date run from 1860 - 1932, all very nice condition, none of them slabbed and my loose proof are all missing dates and duplicates from 1973 onwards, again all very nice 'specimen'.
Also its worth mentioning the troy oz and fractional britannias, a bit more expensive for being 24ct, but an excellent substitute if you dont like the modern coppery post 2000 alloy.
When you put gold coins into simple 2 × 2 slips (black ones look even better) and have them set 20 to an A4 page, having graded/slabbed coins seems daft in my opinion.

Get some nice oil. I use Balistol. Oil your coin and then put it in a plastic coin case.

@@MetalicPotato Silver is “allergic” to sulphates and I have been told that because even 90% coins have a hefty amount of copper in it, they can still oxidate.

Love my sovereigns but honestly I don't really see the premiums going to the moon on them purely because of scarcity.
Scarcity is what drives premiums which is why even now the coins that command high premiums are the ones that were minted in lower numbers at specific mints.
None of these vintage coins are being used as circulating currency, nobody is going to be mounting them in jewellery, nobody is melting them unless they are completely worn or bashed.
In essence all or virtually all the vintage sovereigns that are around now will likely still be around and in the same condition in another 100 years from now.
I completely agree. I heard an interesting analogy recently pertaining to the fact that 95% of all Aston Martin's ever built are still in running order.
You are forgetting the other side of the equation. In a future with much higher population, and more people in developing countries having middle class aspirations, there will be many more potential buyers for these same (or slightly reduced) number of vintage sovs.

The premium above spot for a gold sovereign is currently between 5% to 6% and it hasn't really moved to any significant degree in the last 50 years.
The spot price of gold has moved up significantly but the premium on bullion sovereigns has not.
20% to 30% premium??? Maybe an Indian minted one. I buy very good Beth Sovereigns at melt to 3%. I buy Vicki’s and Eddie’s for the same, but never more.

Check the taxes in your state. Whilst they are spread all over the globe the US tends to stick to its own coins, and due to geography you could probably pick up Mexican or Canadian cheaper. The Sovereigns is more of a Europe, Middle East and Asia coin
@@gunnargundersen3787 In the states both canadian and mexican would need to be declared at sale and I believe have the capital gains taxed. Kruegerrands too. I would avoid those. For inside the US, 1/4 AGE beats sovs in popularity, but tend to have higher premiums for that reason.

What I am commenting on in a very non-biblical, secular way is the cost-benefit to God. In these terms, which many atheists seem to relate to vs theology and faith, it shows potential endless downside for no real upside for the atheists. For Christians, there is no significant downside (generally no downside...there are exceptions) for unlimited upside. My argument is showing a risk-to-return.

Gold proff sorvighns are worth the investment. 8 years for 545 now 895..i do better on gold.. For 99 pounds you can get a Q sorvighn 2 grams..now 108 I get 150 for the remembrance.. Its all about getting the correct audience.. My latest is two isle man gold 2022 Xmas sovereign 995 each.. With the angel and Robin running in the woods. The last portrait of our late Queen and with the angel on the revers if I sold in 6 months time I would triple my money. Only 150 minted. Its all about who you sell to... My father bought 5 or 199 each just BU.. They sell now for 350. That's a more than any bank can give you.. And now with Russia going to do a Moscow standerd unless the UK work with Russia over its fusion reactors when made to save Russia then as you no the Russia gold standers is going to raise all gold up. Like the 70s it went to 6k a onze. With India and its cheap oil gas from Russia all thier people will lift more better paid work all wanting gold silver no one trust the weaponised USA doller the gold will jump up to 2500 a onze. China doing a 24k panda we do 22k. And with Russia and China buying 300vtons at a time and Russia which gets 40% from all Russia mines they are also buying large amounts no one well almost no one noes they are buying lots as they will set the price for a fare price so all countries will benifit.. Yip gold is a good investment.. Buy now and you will see a great profit....
