As someone is is 65 it saddens me greatly that those of my generation and older must live in their cars for some not out of choice but rather because they can not find affordable housing.
This says a lot.
Imho the main problem those two have is they were looking for the housing in California. Many other states run their low-income & elderly housing programs differently, and while there is probably a shortage in every state, the waiting list & time is much shorter in other states usually.

I live in So. CA. Getting up and moving to another state is not as easy as it sounds. There are many things to factor in.
@@suzend46 I understand that, but these two ladies for example are already mobile, so if they chose to look for housing in another state they wouldn't be as encumbered as you are.
@@playhooky The waiting list in Maine is 2 & 1/2 yrs. My cousin in Mass waited almost 5 yrs. Some states the waiting list is quite a while.

Thank you for another great video! Your channel is terrific. I'm 62, and had lived in a Class B for almost two years until a brain tumor sidelined me. After surgery I made a 5 year plan -- growing stronger, saving money and planning -- and I hope to get back on the road in 2025. Your videos are so helpful! I hope to see you down the road.

These interviews are amazing and much needed. I Spent a year or so living in my 4runner about 10 years ago. Living on military disability, exploring and meeting great people. Wish I had this channel back then. Now in my 40s, married, house, kid, and living the "American Dream", I remember how easy it is to have a few bad months to be homeless. Some just 1 paycheck.
This channel reminds me to live simple, but LIVE! Also, to have compassion for my father in law who is in his 70's, simi-nomad with his camper parked on our property.
Long story short, us millennials see you, and have much respect. Thanks.

Lindy and Carol represent the new 70 year old women not afraid to adventure and live their lives. I'm a little younger but close behind them and I feel the same way. If it's something you want to do, do your research and preparations and do it! Don't listen to the naysayers and folks that are afraid to do anything outside of their comfort zone.... Sending both of them love and light. 💐

Me too. I just turned 68. For now, I'm watching CZcams videos about tiny house/skoolie/van life etc to learn all I can. Biggest quandary is finding the money to purchase a vehicle... My gut says it's going to happen even though from where I stand now, I can't imagine how.

I met a guy down in the desert around Yuma who was 82 and extremely spry. I was shocked when he told me his age because I would have said 65. He had a VW bus and a trailer with a Harley on it. He was changing the axle on his trailer and crawling underneath fixing a vacuum line problem on the van. Amazing!!
In Falcon Heights down on the extreme southern Tex / Mex border I camped with a lady who was 75. She was great.
I am 67 and this is permanent. I'll die in my rig.

I'm 62 and just bought my Ford high top 350 and am building it out myself. I kept putting it off and getting more and more complacent and somewhat grumpy, feeling like a mushroom in one place. I've never had a car payment in my life, but bit the bullet and took out a loan for this van. LIfe is short. Now I'm fixing it up, slowly but surely, all by my lonesome. All this to say, if you can, just do it! Take the first step, it helps a lot. Good luck to you!

I love Randy, I've been watching him for awhile now. I'm living in my airstream full-time off-grid out in the middle of nowhere and I love it. I'm 65 and I'm divorced, I've been doing this for 4 years now, traveling a bit, doing a couple of RV parks while deciding where to settle and ended up in northern Arizona. I have my dogs, cat, some chickens and my little rescue guinea pig. My windows are full of veggies. I'm hoping to move into a container home this summer that my good friend is going to help me renovate. It's important to eat as healthy as possible and to stay active, Exercise and meditation is important for me

Hah! Loved this! Four months ago I sold everything, bought a conversion van, gave up my apartment and hit the road. I left cold snowy Michigan behind and headed to Florida. In a week or so I will head to Alabama. I am having a blast! Oh, I forgot one small detail. I am 83 years old!😂

I'm 69 and will be turning 70 in October. I'm planning to be living in a motorhome or van before then. My kids and many friends think I'm crazy. I have to because I can't afford rent. I've been doing my research and found it will be more manageable on the road.

How wonderful it is to see women in their 70's, fearlessly living a nomadic lifestyle. So happy to see that there is a sisterhood of travelers for companionship & support. I love camping in my SUV, and hope to do more of it this year. As long as I have a comfortable bed, toilet and the ability to make coffee inside my car, I'm good to go. I'm thinking about renting out my home and going on the road, but I need more practice. I also have two little girl doggies that will go with me. lol

Yes please, this video was very enlightening. I just turned 70 and my priority would also be the height would be a big priority along with the bed. The bed needs to be high enough to easily get up to go to the bathroom. I came up with a toilet a couple of years ago. Real complicated: Two five gal buckets that I got for free from a restaurant and, I guess you would call it a booster toilet seat that you would put on your existing commode. I got it from Amazon for $25 and it fits on the buckets like it was made for just that. I got two buckets because we could not get them apart. I just use the $Tree kitchen bags and some kitty litter, and dispose at least every three uses.

Why do you think its?easier on an older man? This is no life for any older person.
It's hard, and to Normalize this? Is a Damn shame!!!. Plus the parking, or driving so much. Different for everyone but it can be stressful
Breaking ground for the next-generation to be nomads, not developing roots and careers and families?? Not paying taxes, participating in community life and breaking laws all over the country wherever they go? It sounds like a nightmare future for the Next generation.

You ladies are so inspiring! I am living in a condo and I’ve thought about selling out and hiding in the woods off grid but that might not be feasible because if you need to move in a hurry, you can’t. I’m very sensitive to cold and I live in the state of Ohio, so it doesn’t help much but if I were to ever jump into van life I would have to figure out what I could use as a physical address, because I know certain things require one. I’m learning by watching all of you for when the time comes that I may be ready to do this and join you all on your adventures but in the meanwhile, I will keep watching the videos. Thank you. 💗

I love road tripping and car camping but I don’t care for chatting with strangers. I lived in a 28-unit complex for close to 30 years. I talked to exactly 2 neighbors a few times. I am not antisocial, just shy and no skill in small talk. Now I live in a retirement park. I know the close by neighbors because I am the youngest so I wanted them to know they can find me in emergency.
But you're chatting to strangers in here! Everyone feels shy initially when meeting a stranger in real life, but practice makes perfect! That's the secret and that's all it is.

I love my homestead, I guess I got the nomad gene satisfied in my earlier years.....and I loved it. But now I live calm & peaceful and I now have great grands and I wouldn't ever want to miss out on my precious Gifts ❤🎉
Great interview. I'll be 72 in a few months and one thing I realized I always wanted to do was to travel across this beautiful country and see the sites... but have not done so, yet. I always imagined I'd have a partner to travel with in my senior years, but that has not materialized. Time's a wasting!
Suddenly, I found YT videos in my feed about people living the nomad van life...honestly, I was completely unaware so many people were doing this. Next I started looking into ways to convert my SUV. I have a lot of gear from my hiking and camping days in the past. So I'm planning a long weekend trip, camping in my car, and trying out different sleep arrangements to see which way I want to arrange it.
I am planning several long trips next year, but I won't be selling my house unless I stumble upon a place where I'd rather live. I can see myself in a tiny home, but I must have room for a big garden. Anyway, seeing other ladies my age and older embracing life by travelling to their hearts' desires, is very inspiring!

I feel so sorry for those two ladies. Having to work at their age and live in a bus or a van is a shame. I hope she gets her tiny home, I love that company. That would be so much better. 💗
Great interview Carol ,with Lindy & Carol ! I'm still dreaming desiring to locate MY VAN / vehicle & join you all as a NOMAD on the road. I am renting a room now , so plan to take this year to eliminate 99 % of my stuff buy THE vehicle & enjoy traveling again.
Looked @ the option of buying a Tiny home from Randy Jones this past year. That may still be plan B . Other options for me include moving to Mexico or Portugal because I want very affordable housing , NON GMO CLEAN FOOD & the ability to either be very near the sea or able to go there often . Already have friends living in both those places.. .. Blessings to you Carol 🤗 thanks for all you do. BTW I'm now living into my 80th year here on Earth as of December 18 2022 . I'm fully retired except for pet care jobs periodically.

I love these two women! I hope when l am in my 70s l am a badass like them! I’m looking at 60 soon and after a 2 year hiatus of sticks and bricks living l miss traveling and have saved up for an off road/off grid trailer that l will be pulling with my Jeep Wrangler. I plan to hit the road in August and work in Alaska next summer.
I did work camping with a bigger trailer for 2018-21 but wanted something smaller and more self sufficient that l could live in and get away from crowds of people in.
Not every nomad wants to meet and socialize with other people. The people you approach are approach you are the social butterflies and naturally represent their own kind so it looks nomads are very social. I’m sure many are but not everyone is into being with people.
There are many of us who go to great pains to camp as far away from people as possible and definitely don’t want to be interviewed or bothered. But we’re here and live life on the road and not looking to be with others.

Some people want to go somewhere away from big crowds. Nomads are different regardless of who they are or where they come from. God bless u

I’m 69, and will be full time in a minivan come June. I’d hoped for more ceiling room, but it is what it is, and I’d far rather see the country! I’ve been researching and waiting for several years, plus years of camping experience. My Soc Sec won’t allow me to drive as much or do campgrounds as much as I’d like, but disability prevents working. I may be able to sell some art for cash. As for limitations, my toilet is a self built separating-easiest option!-and the necessary 18” high. And my current pup will be able to begin working as my service dog by then, as well as being a bed warmer, so that I can hike a little more. I figure I’m good till I’m 85, and not sure what I’ll do then.

You are absolutely right about not worrying about the taller ceiling! I’m not as mature as you are, but I’ve been NOT making the progress I should on the Tall Van I have. I have your disability/income problem. I hope you are out there doing it!
I love seeing these ladies living there life the way they choose after all we only live once. I wish I could join them.
@Nerak Senoj i'm glad these ladies have vehicles to live in because the fact they couldn't afford or find housings to live is heartbreaking and unfortunate. so i'm glad they found vans to live in.

bought property before I retired, in Co. I LIVE OFF GRID, DID MY OWN SOLAR, I have 2 water cisterns and haul water with my little utility trailer, also make dump runs. I have propa ne heater, diesel heater and wood cook stove. I have chickens, milking goat for milk and cheese, a sheep for wool and grow a garden and can, pickle, ferment and dehydrate ( in the sun) I love it!!!...

I think the friendliness is partially because the older rv living person knows that they will need assistance sooner than others. The comradeship is the best part of the security needed
It's also an education, humbling than modern day egotistic

I agree that Randy Jones’ homes are great alternatives for stationary and simple living as well the community of people they attract are very similar in lifestyle values. Sondra, that's why I'm out here at 70. I refuse to pay anymore rent or mortgage. Let the younger one struggle with that stuff. I've given society all I could. Now it's my turn to reap some rewards. I've lived in an apartment most of my life an owned a house for 18 years. Like myself some of us are doing this life by choice. But as I look at how this economy is getting, it just may turn out because I have to.

@@alexthehomboi No it's a good thing that someone who needs a home can actually have one. There are so many who don't have a place to lay thier head. Literally living in RV's, busses, Van's anywhere they can without a real home. It's not easy to live like that. I'm happy for those getting help to be able to have a home they can call thier own, not having to always live on the road. This world isn't getting any easier, just take a look around you. God bless all of those able to get you a home.
