Even The Pretty Ones Have Issues! //// CAR RUNS BAD WHEN COLD //// Popping Through Intake

- In this video we are still chasing down the issue of "popping through the intake". A lot of foxbodies suffer with this issue and 9 times out of 10 it's a fuel problem. We thought we resolved the issue last time we had the car over.. But sometimes it takes the right situation for the problem to show back up again.. So after a few days of driving the car Ben said it was doing it again.. This time though we may have fixed it for good with a new fuel regulator.

That’s me and my dads blue car
Ya’ll have a beautiful car! And thank you for your help!
Brother I love the way you got the young man involved in turning wrenches! That’s how Foxbody Fever begins! 💯👊🏾
That’s right you never when or where the apart will come from.
@@BREW2LFOXBODY of you have time can we chat about a startup idle surge?
The paint on that car, top and bottom.. Is so spot on
Yes sir!
Its good to get your kids involved, sons or daughters. It will save them money when they have their own car by doing their own repairs instead of taking it to the shop. My dad didn't show me sh!t when I was growing up and he made hot rods back in the day. Anything I know I learned from yt or some friends who may know.
One thing I’m learning with “new” cars (EFI)… sometimes “NEW” parts from the parts store CAN BE BAD!!
I had brand new NGK plugs cause major havoc in my vintage triumph motorcycle.. one caused bad spark issues with the coil..
I have 91’ GT green and gray bottom, first fox, I’m in love❤
Nice color combo ✌️
The number one sensor on the engine that has to do with open and closed loop is the ECT. This sensor will cause the lean pop if its going bad or already bad. Itll also cause an excessive rich condition when at operating temp as well. You can Band-Aid this by messing with the fuel pressure depending on how bad the sensor is. Hopefully in his case the factory regulator was just not giving the engine enough fuel pressure under load, caused by a bad diaphragm. Anyway, the car is one nicer Foxes out there! I love the stock look of the engine bay.
Thanks that’s the look we were going for, kinda stock look with a little more umph from the HCI
Check the computer board for anything leaking. Very common to find a leaking capacitor.
Thanks for the advice
I think its great that you get young people like Damon involved ! He looks like he is having a great time. Maybee years from now he can look back and say Brew2l and the boys got me started good times
I hope so! He’s such a good kid
He’s definitely car crazy lol he loves the racetrack and the shop
Date night is sitting right on the Saleens, great looking and sounding Fox
Tickles me to see a factory air filter housing and factory intake tube and A/C on this car, my '93 GT still has all the original equipment included the factory smog pump, very rare in this day and age, props for keeping it OEM brother, love it!!!
I agree!
That's what bothers me is seeing the AC gone. That's a definite no buy from me. That AC isn't going to take much HP from you. I'd rather have it take HP away from me than sweat my ass off in the car.
@CollideFan1 I deleted mine because it didn't work when I did an engine swap. Really starting to wish I would've fixed it
Great video bro and man I love this fox!!!👊
Awesome fix, great looking mustang.
I had the same pop through the intake. Replaced the ecm and it went away. All parts and sensors stayed the same.
Man that car looks good!
Lot of times it's the pick up coil in the dist. If I replace the tfi I replace the pick up coil. I also remote locate the tfi.
My 93 has been having the exact thing happening for a couple of years. It only happens when it's 60-70 degrees and a cold start. I will give this a try and hopefully that fixes the issue !
Check the computer board on all of these old fox body cars. 10 pin connector issues can also be a thing.
My 91 GT does this also. I've tried to let it idle until it gets to operating temp, but it tries to die. It stutters and pops under part throttle only when cold. WOT and when it warms up it's perfect.

Intake temp sensor on #5 runner.
Man date night looks good
Man, come out to Colorado and help me figure mine out!
Aint nobody beatin on my car but me, i got 2 friends right now wanting to drive mine no sir buddy boi
When my car did that. It felt like the car was loading up then pops. Usually 2nd or 3rd gear. Changed the TFI and it fixed it
Cool video
I always had the opposite with the last 2 mustangs I had. They would run great cold then once they warmed up they bogged out like crazy.
Yea I had Similar problem with mine I guess it runs in the foxbody family 😁
Lean pops
My first fox looked this great. Until I flipped it over a guardrail on the way home from casino. I got new shell that needs paint real bad. Considering doing it myself. But I've never done body work. Always just built engines.
Mine was doing the same thing, ended up being a bad fuel pressure regulator.
I built a 331 recently and it run rough but I ended up replacing all that stuff and the whole time I had bad gas
I’ve had that issue for 10 years. It’s been sitting for 4 years. 😢 It did it with the original distributor and after replacing it with the msd. I’ve replaced everything except the bap sensor, act sensor, and maf. Also, my alternator is weak so it may be the cause of surging too. 😢
Had this problem before and turned out to be the computer ...
That helps. Mine was the fuel tank reservoir being broken inside and smacking the pump
We swapped the comp and same issue
Check the board for any signs of leakage.
Sound like a grounding issue? Are all the sensors getting the correct 5 volts. A lot of times these issues are related to how the eec iv is grounded itself and trying to share a bad ground plane with the sensors.
Man it’s hard not to get discouraged with these cars sometimes. I’ve spent the better part of two days skipping out on family activities prepping for PowerTour in an attempt to fix a miss on my foxbody causing the thing to load up super fat with no success. I’ve ran a zillion tests and swapped a ton of parts around and nothing changes. Super frustrating…
My car did the same thing after I converted to mass air. I stumbled across a post on the forums about "clocking" the mass air meter. I turned my meter clockwise as it was running and could hear that it just ran better at about 45* turned. Tightened it up and it's ran great ever since.
Real common with aftermarket meters
@@tufgriz8917
Should have at least 6" of pipe between the mass air meter and the air filter... Experts say...
Change the fuel tank. Mine was messed up and the reservoir was broken loose and was smacking the pump inside. It messed up when the fuel got low and would be fine with a full tank.
Sucks when you gotta play the guessing game
Man I'd love for you to tune my car make decisions on new parts cam or what not
Did you have to increase the fuel pressure?
Guesses before watchi, clogged cats, or valve timing is off. Timed without removing spout plug maybe? Also if it only en cold,it means it could be emissions issue. Cold means open loop. No emissions sensors are reading right off. That’s the only difference between cold and hot running.
Look at the oil build up in that butterly. Can it breathe in vacuum?
was there any codes like code 21 ECT sensor while engine running scan , code ? or measuring the ohms on the sensor see if it is in range ? dirty original sensor? get the engine to normal operating temp before any scan or you might get false codes. a bad ECT sensor will affect computer input for the proper air fuel ratio , whether at start up or while driving.
I changed my ECT and still no change 😢
Need to get ahold of you. Have literally replaced everything and still have startup surge. Would like to bring the car to you if possible
Real quick I’m having the same issue did that car also have a rough idle but then would go away after warming up?
Mine does this. Still going down the rabbit hole a year later.
Lean pop specially if cold, then timming
Man I'm good, that's what happens when u tune cars, experience
Ecu?
Fuel pump. Fuel filter
Clock the meter.
I clocked it last time and didn’t help.
carb 302 for the win
Been there done that , it’s definitely a proven method 🤣🤣🤣
Parts cannon nonsense. Worst way to troubleshoot and even if it winds up fixed, you learn nothing except a terrible method of fixing things.
😆👍
