I'm still so happy they managed to get Stéphane Lambiel to do a cameo in this episode! This was a great series on its own, but it so richly deserved a second season or the movie. I'm so mad there won't be a movie. Shame on Mappa and their nasty politics and working practices!

It's such a small plot point, but I love what they did with JJ's arc in the finals. Even a top competitor, with experience, confidence, and skill, at the best point of his life, engaged, with a super supportive family/coach there cheering for him... Can just completely fall apart for no real reason. Simply because they're human and humans sometimes fail. It's Normal. It's how JJ managed to pick himself up from probably his worst performance ever that makes him King JJ~
They set it up so perfectly at the end there for a second season it's so sad lol Yurio snatching that gold away gave a lot of motivation to a lot of people. I feel like a second season would've been some really intense competition. This show will always hold a special place in my heart. It's a shame we didn't get more, but with how some shows have been making comebacks in recent years, I'll hold out a little hope for the future still 😂
The movie would have been about victor in the past (or was in fact, it already was shown at a festival/convention)

I found the series few days ago and I can't stop watching it and thinking about it! It's the best anime I've ever seen Such amazing story!

For all his surlyness and standoff attitude, Yurio actually panicked when Victor told him Yuri was going to retire if he won gold. It was a wonderful breakthrough for the writers to give him in the end. We finally see him achieve the act of 'Agape'. Yes, he worked really hard and wanted to win for himself, but we see the clear picture of him being angry all the time at Yuri because he's looked up to him and knows he can do better. He doesn't want to win against his idol if he isn't going to try his best or just quit. When he broke down at the end of his program he thought he might have failed. Bless his violent little heart. 💗
Victor has always been the most interesting character for me in this series because he's used as almost some mythical fairy godfather. Every skater and coach has some story or interaction with him that has motivated them to train harder or do better. Even if it's just to spite him. Meanwhile the man is so burnt out and in his own emotional pit that he feels nothing of his own and trapped by the expectations of the entire skating world. Going to Yuri after the banquet was him making a choice he had never thought he could make. He needed Yuri as much as Yuri needed him.
Yuri not winning works because for the first time in the series he's not anxious. He knows he can win, and he wants to. If we had gotten the next season I think we would have seen a Yuri that is comfortable in his own skin. Still anxiety prone, but with the experience and tools to deal with the big moments that used to crush him. In one season we see what a difference a coach that believes in his abilities made. His old coach was fine, but he clearly wasn't a priority to him. Victor telling him more or less, 'You are talented. There is no reason for you to lose. You just need to come at it from a different angle and hone your skill.' changed his perspective of himself. Having Yurio act so cocky and underestimate him made Yuri cocky, determined and cleared his head enough to give himself the self-respect he deserved.
The end skate with the two of them is beautiful and like the rest of the series kicks assumed gender or orientation tropes to the curb. They both lift and are lifted. They take the load equally. There is no strong or delicate one. They work together to create harmony.
This anime is such a gem and deserves every bit of praise you gave it. I'm so happy it touched you as much as it did all of its fans. Impossible not to believe in good things when you watch it.
