This has to be my favorite episode of the show. Maomao really impressed me here.
She didn't care who it was in there, she just cared about saving them, and when she saw Jinshi look at her, she could finally let herself sort of relax and pass out (because if it was me, I would've passed out by just one hit on the head from those bats, but she just kept going)
And yeah, we were all yelling at Jinshi to hurry up.
But if you think about it more, Jinshi can see that Maomao's head is hurt and probably has a concussion, so running is really bad at that point (since the shaking from running can further damage the brain)
And also, we can guess that Jinshi is of a higher status than just a eunuch, so at that time period, the nobles almost never ran anywhere.
And also it was for a dramatic effect. Plus, I think Jinshi was so shocked at everything that just happened.
I mean the man almost got crushed, then he got saved by his crush, and what's worse, he sees her beat up, so yeah, I think he was just extremely shocked and at the same time trying to maintain his position~
I actually love Lakan's character, and that moment when he was pissed off that someone hurt Maomao was awesome.
One of the reasons why people were just standing there is out of reverence or something like that. The clothes jinshi is wearing proof that he is of high standing.
As for the guard who bashed MaoMao, as from what i read the author said that the guard for i think a couple of years or so had his life kinda turned into hell to put it simply by Lakan, but since he persevered he managed to get promoted.
12:03 the show has been heavily implying that jinshi is the son of the current emperor. he thinks he's the current emperor's brother and is pretending to be a eunich to test the loyalty of the inner palace concubine's
Even Maomao came to that conclusion when she saw Lady Ah-Duo standing in front of Jinshi and realized their faces were very similar. But she ignored it after a moment because it "isn't her place" to think such things about those higher in status than her.
i mean yes you should hurry and get her to a doctor quickly, but also she almost guaranteed has a concussion and maybe a fractured skull from that hit to the head, in which case you should handle her very carefully and not shake her unnecessarily
And THAT was the moment, the guard knew he done F'd up...
Lakan's intervention is its own open statement in a world of misdirection and obfuscation. Remember, directness is "rude" in [not-China].
There are immutable cultural standards that MUST be maintained at all times. All the bystanders are frozen, bowing because they are not permitted to look upon a personage of such standing. Jinshi and Lakan "know" he is secretly the Emperor's younger Brother.
"We" know Jinshi is actually the Emperor's eldest son and heir by Ah-Duo.
Jinshi, also in shock, personally carrying Maomao to his demense for care is a STATEMENT.
Lakan seeing Maomao so hurt has him as shook as much as witnessing Jinshi's resolve.
