  • In Episode 242 of Luv Subbin, we visit one of the most anticipated monuments of our 2023 Summer RV Trip - Devil's Tower. We' stay at the Devil's Tower KOA where they show "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" outside every night. Of course, we need popcorn for that and Cindy shows an easy way to make the best popcorn in your RV.

    We know... We have said many times that our channel is not about hiking in National Parks. But Devils Tower has been on our list to see since Close Encounters of the Third Kind. We hope you will allow this minor transgression... We loved it.

      Thanks for watching! That storm actually come through during the movie on the first night. There was a mad dash just before the storm hit. Thankfully, our plans were for the movie on the second night...

      Thanks for watching Denise! We literally left the Airstream in the campground's road for a few minutes before we parked just in awe of the sight. Well worth the $100/night.

    Fun view of Devils Tower. We want to hear the story behind you learning the shower cap over the smoke detector trick!

      @LuvSubbin  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Thanks guys! I don't know what it is about our smoke detector but it goes off whenever we cook and the front door is closed. I'm not sure how we came up with the idea but the shower cap is a cheap disposable from a hotel. It works.

    As always, great video!! And a huge thank you for the shower cap idea!!

      Thanks for watching! I don't know what it is but our smoke detector goes off almost every time we cook when things are closed up. The shower cap has become Standard Operating Procedure.

      Thanks Cotton Tales. As we said, expensive but worth it. We would highly recommend that KOA (which we don't often do).

      Thanks for watching! We messed up capturing the footage of the line of cars waiting at the traffic light but it was unbelievably long...

      Thanks for watching! It was certainly on our bucket list and, except for the amount of people, it did not disappoint.

    Great intro LOL!! Thank you for sharing this. We went there during Covid and want to go again. The family-run KOA there is awesome! Had such a lovely time, with the hayride, the movie (with bats swooping to catch the insects in front of the screen), the mini golf, and the excellent location and views of Devil's Tower. Good times! Safe travels!

      Thanks for watching and relaying your experience there as well. We don't normally recommend + $100 campgrounds but in this case it is totally worth it.

    Loved your video! I just booked a camp site at the Devil's Tower KOA for this summer. We will be stopping there on our way to Yellowstone.

    We were at Devil’s Tower a year ago. We were just passing through on our way to Yellowstone. We arrived in the early afternoon with the Airstream in-tow. The ranger directed us to a lot to drop it before driving up to the Visitor Center. Yes, parking was a bugger, but we’ll worth it. We will have to stay at the KOA next time we’re there.

    • @LuvSubbin
      @LuvSubbin  Před 11 měsíci

      Thanks for watching! Yes, the KOA is definitely worth the expense. That Ranger knew his stuff. I would not want to tow our Airstream in that parking lot in the mid afternoon.

    Very cool video of Devil's Tower during the thunder and lightening storm.
    We have the Love's and the Flying J/Pilot gas discounts; this gives us 10% off of every gallon of gas we buy at those stations.
    Totally agree that the America the Beautiful Park Pass is well worth the cost if you are going to National Parks, etc. Hubs is a senior, so got the Senior Lifetime Pass and it has paid for itself for us in the first year.
    Thankful we did quite a few of the western National Parks with our boys when they were younger; it just seems like the Parks were not as crowded back in the 1990s. We stayed at that KOA when we were there and they didn't have the movie showing that I remember, probably too soon after it first came out. We also stayed at the HUGE KOA behind Mount Rushmore and they were showing the movie North by Northwest with Cary Grant.

    Wow! Stunning images with the Tower and lightning! Beautiful! That V8 sounds impressive! Our 3.5 doesn’t have that great growl.

      Thanks for watching! I drove the 3.5 ecoboost when we were buying the truck. It is an awesome engine and totally outperforms the Coyote V-8. Still, I am biased towards simplicity and wow, it sounds great!

    Rich, you often test your water with a special device . Can you recommend a brand or type of water tester. I found a bunch of off name ones on Amazon, but was not sure of the criteria for a good device.

      Thanks for watching! Here's a link to the Total Dissolved Solids tester we use. It's from our Amazon store and we get a small commission at no cost to you. If you don't want to do that, it will show you what we use and you can do a similar search. amzn.to/407BNvj

    Was it possible to walk from the KOA to Devils Tower? If so how far?

    • @LuvSubbin
      @LuvSubbin  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Thanks for watching! Theoretically, yes but it is about 5 miles with half of that uphill. If that's something that would appeal, it could be done. Biking might be better...

    I enjoy your videos but wonder why you don’t have a microwave in your rig? If it’s a personal decision, fine but is there another reason, i.e., a hazard or something along those lines

    • @LuvSubbin
      @LuvSubbin  Před 10 měsíci

      Thanks for watching! We have a microwave in the house and almost never use it. Maybe once in a blue moon to reheat something but that's it. Something that takes up a lot of space and never gets used does not make sense to us but everyone's different.
