    • @LuvSubbin
      @LuvSubbin Před 22 hodinami

      Thanks for watching! First, I knew that our model of Airstream was susceptible to this problem. We were towing up from Florida and one of our friends towing behind us said it look like we were listing to port. Our Airstream does not have a belly pan so it was an easy inspection when we got home.

    I am glad you are documenting the lithium battery upgrade experience. And also pointing out all the considerations and challenges when doing so. Very commonly Airstreamers are under the impression their Center pin 12V positive is going to do a sufficient job of keeping their house battery/ batteries topped off when traveling down the road. This is an assumption for folks that have a 12V fridge, to be doubly frustrating. The fridges draw almost 15 amps. Yes hard to believe but true. Point in case. Please stop the experiments, and install a Victron DC DC Charger. The new Orion XS would be a great choice, but overkill, since you are not running a Cerbo GX. A Smart DC DC Charger with Bluetooth would be perfect. Victron Energy Orion-Tr Smart DC to DC Charger (Bluetooth) - 12/12-Volt 18 amp 220-Watt - Battery Charger for Dual Battery Systems - Isolated is what I went with, but I am upgrading to the Orion XS 50 amp, in the future. I know I have made this suggestion/ comment in the past. And all I can say is stop messing around and install it. It would make for a great video in your library of great videos. I have a video, but it was very limited on install, and more about the reason you need it. You then will be able to see both devices on your Victron Connect application working. Just make sure that the Ford Truck Alternator is not throttling back charging current after a set time (Smart Alternator), because this will lead to the DC DC charger only charging for the short set time period, before the truck battery drops below your set ignition on thresholds. Sounds complicated , it is not. Hit me up in a message, be glad to help. We have a facebook page as well.

      @LuvSubbin Před 22 hodinami

      Thanks so much for watching and I appreciate the offer for assistance. I may take you up on that. I'm just trying to fully understand what's going on before doing an installation. To be honest, I'm still not convinced I need one and that our root cause issue was a bad truck battery. Our average tow is about 6 hours. I have one 75 Ah Battle Born. The last time I measured what the truck was sending back, it was about 5 amps. So I could replace about 50% of my rated capacity with an average tow. In the last few boondocks, we have never gone below 69% at wake up. I will continue to do the leg work to include if my F-150 has the smart alternator (it does not have the Max Tow Package).

    One thing I have learned over the years of RVing, Campers are not able to be stored outside. The UV destroys all cheap plastic things made for a RV. Your Airstream is a 5 lug, very interesting. Very cool video. I enjoy watching what you have had to handle over the years.

    • @LuvSubbin
      @LuvSubbin Před 7 dny

      Thanks for watching! Yes, our wheels are 5 lug with a 14" wheel diameter. They're nothing unusual - just straight up automotive wheels that I think Ford used on the Bronco II. The OEM Goodyear Marathons were actually Load Range C. I had to go up to Load Range D with the Endurance. Like many RV'ers, I went out and bought a bunch of stuff before I even picked up the Airstream. One of those items was a UV air conditioner cover. Maybe I need to start using that after 22 years and 3 shrouds...

After I grade my driveway and install pavers it will be fine but those jobs have to come after basic site work and one building but I want to live out of my trailer while I do that... Once everything is done my Airstream will become guest's quarters but I might take it on the road to some nice RV parks for travel but hopefully all over nice smooth roads.

    Currently a Senior at the Citadel. Can’t wait to get the ring. Was a wild ride and I’m looking forward to coming back years from now for nostalgia (If the school’s still a thing years from now). Respect to you from being Hotel Hell, even now it’s a menace company. Can’t imagine how bad it was in old corp.

      Thanks for watching! First, let me congratulate you on receiving The Ring in just a few weeks. It is one of the many moments in life you will never forget. I still remember taking my seat in Summerall Chapel and opening that box. They served a steak dinner with wine and cigars in the mess hall that night - not sure if they still do that. Tradition was to run back and smash our wine glasses on the Company Letter. The next tradition was to take an underclassman whom you respected and press the ring deep into their forehead leaving a sweet imprint for them to cherish. And yes, I can tell stories of Old Corps Hotel Hell that I doubt anyone but my classmates would believe. Enjoy your senior year - May 2025 will be here soon enough...

    First of all LOVED this video. My airstream is 5 years old. What about the seals on the roof? My overflow valve on the water heater drips a little. I think it is calcium buildup. Cleaning out the tank helped. Too many worries to discuss. I really liked this video.

    • @LuvSubbin
      @LuvSubbin Před 7 dny

      Thanks for watching! I have resealed the roof a few years ago. We actually waited way too long. When we finally did it as a result of noticing a leak, the chalk was super hard and difficult to remove. Assuming there are no known leaks, I probably would start to pay close attention at 5 years and reseal regardless before 10 years. Here's the video: czcams.com/video/o_-lJdsl1w8/video.html

    Boats are grounded to-the water so no surge protecter needed

    • @LuvSubbin
      @LuvSubbin Před 9 dny

      Thanks for watching! I'm not sure that's correct. If I get a massive electrical spike from the power grid, it will travel through the pedestal, through my boat's cord, and fry all of my electronics before it goes to ground in the water. Also, a EMS surge protector will protect from low voltage, high voltage, open ground, open neutral, etc.

      @@LuvSubbin same principal as air planes lightning travels on the outside and not through.

    • @LuvSubbin
      @LuvSubbin Před 9 dny

      @@jeffdrury169 I think we're both right but talking about two totally different things. My Airstream trailer also acts as a Faraday Cage with lightning traveling on the outside (like an aircraft) and my sailboat's mast was grounded to the keel (and water as you spoke of earlier). I'm talking about when you are plugged into shore power. When a surge comes through the power cord directly into electrical components, the Faraday principle has no effect.

      European plugs can have different configurations, and whether they include an earth (or ground) connection depends on the type of plug and the device being powered. Here are some key points regarding the grounding of European plugs: Types of Plugs: Many European countries use the Type C plug (two round pins) which does not have an earth pin. However, other types, like the Type F (Schuko) plug, do include grounding features. Appliance Design: Many small appliances, such as chargers and low-power devices, do not require an earth connection because they are designed to be double insulated. This means they have an additional layer of insulation that protects users from electric shock. Safety Standards: The absence of an earth connection in certain plugs is aligned with European safety standards. Devices that don't need grounding are still considered safe for use without it. Grounded vs. Ungrounded: In situations where grounding is necessary, such as for larger appliances or those with metal casings, plugs that include grounding (like Type F) are used. These plugs are designed to ensure safety by preventing electric shock in case of a fault. In summary, while some European plugs do not have an earth connection, this is often due to the design of the appliance and safety standards in place that allow for safe operation without it.
