It's a National Historic Site where General Lee surrendered to General Grant effectively ending the American Civil War. We then document our typical tow day. We explain our interior and exterior preparations including how we dump our tanks. We talk about how we choose and enter gas stations. We finish with our arrival at Greenbriar State Park in Boonsboro, Maryland.

      Thanks for watching! Love the air cooled 911's. My favorite will always be the 87 - 89 Carreras with the G50 transmission. Of course, if money were no object it would have to be a 959 (RIP Helmuth Bott). I once owned a 1979 924 that I loved. C has given me permission to buy it if ever I come across it (S/N 9249105908).

    This was soo informative, thank you so so much. That setup with a land cruiser would be awesome. i think it can tow that 23ft

    • @LuvSubbin
      @LuvSubbin  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I'm sure a Land Cruiser could pull our 22' - it weighs on 4,680 lbs. with a 450 lbs. hitch weight. Maybe people think ours is a 23' because of the dual axle but in 2002, 22's had duel axels. Regardless, a Land Cruiser could do it.

    An interesting couple of notes; At the start of the civil war the First Battle of Bull Run started on Wilmer McLean’s home in Manassas, Virginia. He then moved to Appomattox, Virginia to escape the war until General Robert E. Lee surrendered at his house in Appomattox. Thus, Wilmer McLean could rightfully claim that the Civil War started in his front yard and ended in his front parlor. Second item of interest is that the table which General Grant drafted the surrender document on was presented to Elizabeth “Libby” Bacon Custer (General George Custer’s wife) by General Philip Sheridan. Jefferson Davis was charged with treason, and held in confinement for two years, but was never tried because of President Andrew Johnson's proclamation on Christmas 1868 granting amnesty and pardon to all participants in the rebellion. Of note…. the Battle of Palmito Hill east of Brownsville, Texas fought a month after Lee surrendered is considered as the last battle of the Civil War. It was a Confederate Victory. Fun facts from history.

      I was going to add that little tidbit about Wilmer McLean’s residence at Manassas motivating Wilmer to move south to avoid the war.

    Thanks, guys. Great summary of a full travel day with many helpful considerations. Just a thought for you to consider is having some slip on shoe protectors for the dump station. It's pretty easy to wash hands afterwards, but hate to think about all those germs going right back into my truck.

    Always good idea to check the temperature of the tires. Great history lessons in this episode! Do you notice a difference in flavor using the healing water in your coffee? I'm surprised Cindy at how many things you pull out of the cupboards, but it makes sense with the cupboards. The GPS does not know you are hauling a camper. The Flying J's and Love's are great. We have both discount cards too. - Michelle

      Thanks guys as always. I really do think the coffee tastes better but I'm not sure if that's an expectation bias or not. We do take a lot of stuff down but have found that a little prevention is worth the extra time. I'll await someone making a comment that my tire pressure is too high ..😀.

    Great video. What temp are you looking for when you check your bearings? What temperature will concern you that it’s too hot?

    • @LuvSubbin
      @LuvSubbin  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Thanks for watching! The probability of all four bearings failing at the same time is next to zero. What I'm looking for is something different. If all four hubs read 120F, I have no issue. If one hub reads 120F and the other three read 70F, then we have a problem...

    Always look forward to your videos!
    Curious about how big your tanks are?
    So do you carry a full fresh water tank?
    Also, you had your tanks cleaned while at the 2023 International Rally, have you noticed any difference?
    Discount gas cards for the usual/popular places is a nice savings. ALWAYS have an escape route!
    Safe Travels!

      Thanks for watching! Our black and grey tanks are both 21 gallons. Our fresh tank is 32 gallons and we always try to travel with the fresh tank fulI.
      We think the service offered by Kleen Tank is value-added. Things just seem "cleaner" as seen from the clear elbow and our tank gauges now read "0" when empty (prior the black tank would read 20% when empty).

    Enjoy your content! What are you shooting the hub temperature with and do you bother with calibration for it?

    • @LuvSubbin
      @LuvSubbin  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Thanks for watching! A link to the infrared temperature gun is in the video's description. It's an Etek City model 774 if you want to search Amazon. I don't calibrate it because the absolute temperature is less important than one hub being crazy different than the others.

    Useful, good to see how you do it. You might have covered it elsewhere but what's your typical schedule, specifically how long do you stay at a site? And for this tow day you said a planned 10:30 departure, but what time do you come into the campsite typically?

    • @LuvSubbin
      @LuvSubbin  Před 3 měsíci

      Thanks for watching! Except on "Haul Days" when we're trying to quickly reposition, we like to stay at least three nights. On "Haul Days", we may travel for two days back-to-back but then like to spend 2 days resting after that before continuing. For arrivals, we like to make sure we are "docked and chocked" and all settled in by 5:00 PM for Happy Hour at the latest.

    How much are the national parks charging now for filming passes? Is it long process?

    • @LuvSubbin
      @LuvSubbin  Před 3 měsíci +2

      Thanks for watching! The permitting process for filming at National Parks has never involved a fee for small content creators. It is currently a difficult and cumbersome process requiring much advanced preparation to obtain a permit. Thankfully, all that is about to change. On April 9, 2024 HR6492 was passed by the House which will eliminate all permits for filming at the National Parks for content creators that have less than 6 people in the film, do not require any sets, and do not impinge on the enjoyment of other guests. This includes both still and video photography and it does not matter if the platform is monetized. It is currently in the Senate and is expected to pass and be signed into law.

    Please please don’t shove the water hose down into a drain hose after you drain your black tank.

    • @LuvSubbin
      @LuvSubbin  Před 3 měsíci +2

      Thanks for watching but I'll respectfully disagree. That water source is clearly marked as "Non Potable" and should only be handled with proper protective equipment. Indeed, it is often left to lie in the excrement of the dump station. Most importantly, these hoses are often turned on through a simple valve and the pressure is significant. Attempting to turn on the hose and then position it above the sewer hose will result in the user being splashed - potentially in the eyes, nose, mouth, or cut skin. This is why it is important to have the nozzle in the hose when turning the water on or off. Of course, I would never, ever flush my hose from a potable water source.
