  • In this video I show you how I made this systainer inlay for router bits with CNC.
    Because I do not have my own CNC, I go to my local makerspace/fablab 'de Kaasfabriek' (cheese factory) which is located in Alkmaar, The Netherlands.
    For this project I used some pieces of 12 mm birch plywood.
    If you are interested in making this inlay yourself please contact me via my website. I have the intention to make a dxf file available for download in the future.
    Look for more photos of this item and other projects on my website: www.likewood.nl/

    I think loads of us would like to make things like this but not everybody has access to a CNC Machine looks cool by the way

    Dat heb je geweldig mooi gedaan. Echt schitterend.

    Nice project! Huge fan of the systainers too. So convenient. Birch plywood is best machined conventional instead of climb cut, it leaves a clean finish with the right routerbit that doesn't require any sanding or filing afterwards.

    what progam did you used to make your project? you take a picture, but how does stay in right scale?

    • @ruudhooff6486
      @ruudhooff6486 Před 4 lety +2

      Easiest way I know to keep the scale when working with a picture is to include a ruler in your picture so that you can use that to reference against.

    • @Likewood
      @Likewood  Před 4 lety +1

      I use Rhinoseros or Rhino for short. The scale can be adjusted by measuring one or two real dimensions of the object.

    Could you represent the plans to be made with a hand router?

    • @Likewood
      @Likewood  Před 5 lety

      I am not able to do that. But you can try.

  • @cmmartti
    @cmmartti Před 4 lety +1

    I really like this idea. I might try this plywood technique with some of my own tools. I like the systainer boxes; I have one that came with a Makita track saw, and I might pick up some smaller ones for hand tools. I don't have access to a CNC router so I would have to figure out a technique that is feasible, perhaps gluing small pieces of plywood to a base piece of plywood to form the tool pockets.
    Mike Farrington also used a similar process to organise his tools and made a video about it (czcams.com/video/LHMyhuZo2a0/video.html). He made more of a "3D" toolbox, but I think I prefer the layered trays.

      I like what he did, but like you, I don't have a CNC machine, but I thought of a way to do something similar. You can still make the individual shelves using a thinner plywood and use foam for the tool inlays.

    I get that you have to have some skill to program a cnc but it just feels like cheating to me. Great work though.
