If War Thunder's Merkavas Were Historically Accurate (Redux)

- The old Merkava video had a lot of errors, so a redux was desperately needed. I also needed something relatively easy to do ahead of Christmas, so I had time to relax.
For most of its history, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) relied on the purchase of foreign tanks like the M48 / M60 (Magach), Centurion (Sho't Kal), and Sherman to equip its armored forces. This changed when plans to purchase Chieftain main battle tanks from the United Kingdom fell through at the last second. After this ordeal, Israel decided to create a main battle tank suited to their experiences and specifications. Called the Merkava (Chariot), this tank placed crew survivability above all else. Featuring a front mounted engine, fuel tanks entirely separated from the crew, spaced armor, and special ammunition containers, crew casualties among Merkava crews are significantly lower than on contemporary tanks. The Merkava has been continually upgraded throughout its lifetime, now featuring modular composite armor, a 120mm gun, an upgraded engine, and an active protection system called Trophy.

Why don't you mention that if War Thunder's KV-2 were historically accurate, they would have had Battle Rating lower than 3.3? This is because not later than early 1942, all KV-2s were knocked out of action and new were never produced, so they would have never faced a long-barrel Pz IV, that is no F2s in opposite team, not to mention newer models. There's at least 50 examples like that in the game if not more. WT has nothing to with historical accuracy.

The Merkava 1 did (the Allison transmission wasn't quite suited to the extra weight,) but the later versions unsurprisingly fixed that.
The transmission problems were a bit less apparent though, given the focus on using the tanks as essentially stationary guns in combat.

That LAHAT bit had me rolling
When spawning with the dreadlock armour option enabled, there is a 20% chance the standard crew voice will be replaced with a Jamaican accent.
With the chain 'danglers' applied, this tank has more balls then any other! Was never all that keen on the aesthetics of the Merkava, but I do dig the Lion emblem shown at 1:51. I would get this chariot for that Lion alone.
Would love to see Spookston make a video of how bad/good was the Merkava.
And on this day no transmissions, suspensions, final drives and engines were harmed.

Funny how the Merkava creator was apperantly so much of a boomer,he almost deleted the NV from the first merkava and go again the addition of thermal sight stating that using flare was enough

What you said is completely false. Egyptians and syrians did not use flares. They have NV and IR equipment.
wrong info. the idf used the flares while the Egyptian and the syrian had NV on they're t62 and t55 tanks. yet in the yom kipuar and six day war idf armored devisions still were able to destroy the egyptian and syrian armored devisions while still being few time smaller in turms of numbers. I mean does it sounds normal to kill t55 with an sherman tank with nothing but a bigger french gun and israely atitude ? well it doesnt yet that still happend.

also a minor fact about the cannon mounted .50 is that it was (and still is on the mk4) used to fire single shots as opposed to full auto

Depends on how useful it is. Most games just make it ridiculously easy to knock out and/or give it a limited window of use (or one use) with a lengthy cooldown.
@@KrisHandsome Depending on the system, there are certain vairables in the real world to account for. Some APS only have a limited engagement range and often very limited ammo (sometimes only 4 shots). What might be devestating to some people, is the fact that there are some hard-kill APS that can also intercept APFSDS darts. Then there are those, like the IDB/Rheinmetall ADS that can intercept multiple rounds (though not APFSDS to my knowledge) from multiple angles at the same time.
Also, as you mentioned, a certain arcade game with the initials AW does work with cooldowns between each activation, enabling missile vehicles to get some missiles in. Or you just disable the APS for a while by shooting at it. Also, APFSDS intercept for those APS that can do it is tied to a skill you need to select pre-game (Taking away other options) and activate it in game.
The CD method and limited arcs that mimick the real world arcs might work best in WT.

It's an optional function. It's basically ammo storage. Merkava wasn't designed as a MBT/APC crossover.

well as a former merkava mk4 loader this number is wrong, its 1400 and there is a big box where you put 1400 mg bullets there this box called 1400 .

@@AllMightyKingBowser It's really not that great of a tank even with all the US tax payer money dumped into it. it doesn't even have a blast door to protect the crew from ammunition exploding just those canisters which aren't even as close to as effective. Also in the back of that tank theres room for only 1 or 2 people to hitch a ride and it would be tight. That would be if they didn't store extra ammo there which they do sometimes. Engine in the front? fuel tanks in the front? not that impressive man.

Not exactly true,the M413 perform better then M900 irl so it needs to have better pen then M900 ingame so above 520mm

What is the point of that 50 cal? It can’t be for sighting rounds. The Merkava has laser ranging. And only having a 100 round belt on a gun 5-6’ from the nearest hatch just seems pointless.
