- My analysis of both country's Coke Studios. Also, I'm singing my favorite coke studio number in the end :P

Just came across this. Rohail Hyatt's vision was definitely something like what you said but he gave the artists a lot of say. But recently CS 14 has Xulfi as the producer and he took a different direction. Video itself is part of the art this season, rap, sufi lyrics, great Urdu and Balochi songs and lyrics and a background arrangement and electronic music composition mix. Yet its a great season with great music. So that kind of counters your narrative and analysis. I think perhaps they start with themes that are original and local and build lyrics and poetry. India has great culture. Thousands of years of history, more variety in languages and I am sure poetry. Urdu is also an Indian language and nothing beats Urdu poetry. I think what is lacking is vision (producers) and giving artists more say in what they want to do. That's what I think. But somehow yes CS Pakistan is better than other CS around. I think the Bollywood factor in Indian music has kind of taken Indian popular music down to the lowest common denominator. That is a problem. Bollywood is simple and cheap entertainment. It does not produce art though there are always some glimmers of art there for sure from time to time.
Hi Abid. See since time immemorial, technology has always played a huge role in transforming anything including music. After listening to all the songs of CS 14, I have come up with the conclusion that the whole purpose of this season was to experiment with new technology. And this experiment turned successful. How to experiment with new technology in music is something which India must learn from Pak. This technological experiment was successful. But I missed the real instrument. Maybe being 90s kid, I am so used to the life of real instruments.
@@stutijain6290 Well I was a teenager during mid 80's and in college in the 90;s in the US where I learned to play guitar which I have passed on to my son now so I definitely appreciate playing real instruments in songs but experimentation is always good. Sonic breadth should not be limited. In the 90's I did not much listen to desi music and was more into metal and then later Jazz fusion music where real instruments and improvisation on a chordal structure are really all the rage.
@@abidfarooqui-sla3301 see I love changes in different aspects which includes music n technology also. Season 14 of CS was beautifully experimented with new technology. I have given CS 14 the marks of 100/100. The only thing is that along with new technology, I wish real instruments would have been an add on. I am personally a lover of both- real life instruments and technological change 😊. Just one question: any idea when is Nescafe basement making a comeback?
@@stutijain6290 I honestly do not know. I live in Florida and actually hardly ever go back to Pakistan. I myself have recently re-discovered Pakistani music scene and it seems awesome
@@abidfarooqui-sla3301 Indeed Pakistani music is awesome. Infact we Indians love it more than anything. We find it much much ahead of Indian music.
Answer is simple. Pakistan music still has Soul, Divine Inspiration and a good heart. Indian music just like general Indian public lack these things becuase they are focused on money, greed, plagirising, devoid of any inspiration or soul. All they look for (and all they have to offer) is Entertainment value, naach gana, shor sharaba.
that is not true, you should listen to richa chada, arijit singh, kailash kher and many more.
i am pakistani by birth, and i love pakistani music more than any other. i respect your opinion, but i do not agree with what you said...
Kabhi , indian classical sunna 😂😂 sharma jaoge miya , coke studio flop show hai india me , usse aachhe achhe shows hai , MTV Unplugged / Indies and many more.
@@adarshsingh7811 classical? we live in 2022, which village did you come from? 😂😂 ofcourse good music is flop in india, because kundi maat kharkao raja, sidha undar aao raja aur mein little little karte litre litre pe gaya jo papolar hain 😉... coke studio india was a flop in india, coke studio pakistan ke ganey india mein bhi baj rahey hain 😉... there is no doubt indian classic music was great, lata ji, rafi sir are just two examples... but let's face it, indian mudic has gone commercial in last 2 decades or so, quality has gone down big time
@@sonofadam4 I am sorry but Arijit Singh is not of the level of other legends. Arijit Singh has sung all the songs in just one style. He has long way to go. Also, most of the Indian songs are copied. I am Indian and I hate the fact that real and genuine talents are not given chance. If Indian starts to search for genuine talents just like Pakistani does, Arijit Singh, Monali Thakur, Neha kakkar won't have existed. I am not saying they are bad. But today much better singers are found in every streets of India.
@@adarshsingh7811 In India, just 1 percent of music is good and 99 percent of music is disgusting, vulgar, gender objectification etc. But in Pakistan, 99 percent of music is legendary. Only 1 percent flops. And I am Indian so I don't want to spread lies about my country. MTV unplugged is not the show of today's era. Watch T-Series- best for India, worst in the world. Shameless T-Series, full of nepotism and copy cats.
In one of the interview, Rohail Hyatt (CS Pakistan) said that as a producers he gives space and freedom to singer in choosing what they want to sing. After the singer finalizes the lyrics and composition. Then Rohal Hyatt adds his own magic to make it presentable. Yes, giving freedom to singer, musician, and related people is what makes coke studio so special.
Your analysis was to the point and based on actual facts. I would like to suggest you to go for "Reaction Videos" on Pakistani and Indian songs in particular. This way we would also be able to see through your perspective and judgement and enjoy music together. I hope you will consider our request.

Wow! That's a really good idea! My actual reaction to most of the Coke Studio videos is soo crazy, it might turn out into a comedy video :P But I'll definitely try! :D
@@unplugged_ananya Such a great idea. We are waiting
Dil Khush kare chadyo tawhan❤️
One thing that you've missed is Pakistani musicians commonly used "Traditional Instruments" to create music instead of computer generated music and if you've noticed Pakistani musicians used any single instrument to create different sounds out of it. It's hard to observe but people who creates music will definitely get my point.
Yes That’s true!
Your comment didn't age well 🗿🗿
Hi dear. Not just musicians. Even the general public feels the purity of your instrument. Lots of love from India.
Lots of love 💕 from Pakistan. I will use the word Hindustani for the subcontinent. So basically our Hindustani tradition of poetry, music, storytelling is based on our centuries of practices in philosophy and religion and the eternal quest to find the answer to the most important question in the cosmos. The divine love is in the roots of our Hindustani tradition. Sadly Bollywood and commercialism took India into a different direction. In Pakistan we still follow the Hindustani tradition and that's why you, my fellow Hindustani find these songs so close to your heart and soul. Pakistani songs are your songs.
No doubt Pakistan 🇵🇰 Coke studio far better than India 🇮🇳 Coke studio

I'm Indian and i agree with you. nowadays boliwood singers maker's coping everything 🤢🤢
Only few singers are great A.R R. Shreya Ghoshal, even Arijit Singh
90s and early 2000s are the last era of golden music. Everything got ruined after the existence of Arijit Singh. Arijit Singh sings in a fake voice.
Only Arjeet singh
Love from 🇵🇰
Yes they copy an take credit for it
As an Indian Citizen I totally agree that Pakistan Coke studio is way ahead of Indian Coke studio. We lack quality, Good music, originality . Language barrier . No one is original. They wanna copy other artists and the instruments are far inferior than Pakistan instruments .
Yar i am really impressed with this girl... Bht technical aur bhtrealistic type ka opinion dea....

Very good, your all points are valid. We are fortunate to have talent like Rohail Hyatt. He is a real mystery person who started the Coke Studio first. He is a philosopher and lover of nature and lives close to nature. Ha also loves to play with frequencies as we can feel in his music. He often went to self isolation mode with his plants and he is still there after Coke studio 2020. We are also part of nature that's why we feel more what he creates using natural musical frequencies in his music especially in Season 6. Season 6 is a masterpiece of Fusion and well craft music like "Miyan ki malhaar", "Tori Chab", "Yar Vekho", "Lage re Nain" etc. Even we are missing him when he left after season 6 and 2020. He is one of his kind. Now Zulfi is also doing good with young talent in Nescafe Basement and going to produce next season of Coke Studio. You should check these songs with reaction videos including BTS and don't forget to check Rohail's lecture "Perspectives: A Conversation with Rohail Hyatt" at Harvard University.
Love from Lyallpur(Faisalabad), Pakistan.
Wow! I also feel that nature and music cannot be separated. In fact, in Hindu religious texts (Vedas) music is said to be originated from the nature only. So I’m not surprised with his love for nature which translates into music! Thanks for such a beautiful information and I’m gonna watch the lecture right away! ❤️
Just finished watching the whole lecture of Rohail, what a genius he is! Thanks for the recommendation 😇
@@unplugged_ananya Welcome, there is also a rajhastani song too in Season 5, named 'Beero Binjaaro', check that out too. It's a very sweet song.
Muhammad if you are reading this, I have just one question: why has Nescafe basement stopped producing seasons? With due respect, any reason you know for the same?
@@stutijain6290 Well, I am not sure, may be they return some day, but I think producer Zulfi was busy in other projects like Coke Studio season 14, and other members like Sherry Khattak was trying to focus on their own rock band Karakoram, and also performed in Coke Studio season 14 and co produce the season with Zulfi. Mostly in nescafe basement they make covers and now world is moving to originals. So, we can only hope that they may return with some new ideas like in Season 14 of the Coke Studio.
Somewhere Pakistani Coke Studio's connection to music is not governed by the movies made there . here we are more interested in listening to bollywood playback singers . Indian Coke Studio has the opportunity to change the way we listen to music , the kind of music we listen, rewrite the musical journey of our country. But they seem to be more interested in being commercially profitable only .
Sadly, yes. Problem is in fundamental thinking and it’s difficult to change. Unless we get a Rohail Hyatt of our own. 😁
@@unplugged_ananya Correct , but i feel instead of waiting for some one to appear , everyone who are now aware should get together and start doing what ever we can in our small world and circle of influence . Osmosis is bound to happen
Pakistani singers sing and play with their hearts❤️
I am amazed , your observation is 100% true , vow
You are absolutely right
I'm from uk my dad's indian mum's Pakistani I grew up watching both nations entertainment/songs etc.
The difference I noticed is Pakistan has serious talent but it has to be polished and coke studio has given them that platform. I wish I could say that for the Pakistani movie industry but you understand what I mean.
India has had some of the best singers and up to a point they were amazing until the 90s and then something happened they just became uniform in everything. They have proven talent but it's like they are more forced to please public demand than branch out, where as Pakistan are far behind India but because they don't need to satisfy the general public they can branch out. Most of your points are spot on.
I just feel Pakistan is levels above India right now in this department. But India is levels above Pakistan when it comes to making movies.
If I can advise Indian coke studio it will be stop copying and be yourself because even now India produces great music but using the Pakistan platform just does not work for the indian platform countries are so similar but very different at the same time.
Pakistani women do not marry non Muslims
I appreciate your support for Pakistani music industry... Luv from Pakistan....
Truth came out from your heart.........Love from Pakistan
Appreciated your thoughts and actual perspective of understanding things behind every experimental music of CS Pak.
Your insights are so deep, I am amazed.
Such an insightful and thought provoking video, you should record live reactions of CS
Your comments are very much honest I also became fan for the last 3/4 yrs since first time I heard Fariha Pervez, Sanam Marvi and Hadiqa kiani.

@@unplugged_ananya mam kindly live reaction den. Listen to music and give reaction while listening to it. Song sunn lainay k baad reaction nah den. Bohot different reaction hota hai dono soraton mein. And yes, I totally agree with your opinion. Coke Studio Pakistan apny Pakistani original songs ko samnay laya hai aaj ki generation k liye and all the songs are beautiful and that's why wprld recognized our songs because our music is beautiful and beyond the borders. Even though foreigners who don't understand Urdu or any other local language also feels the music and I have seen reaction videos where listeners have started crying.

Hahaha exactly! Yahi dikkat thi unko. "Chilla chilla ke bata de sabko scheme" 😂 love this vlog style of yours, keep em coming
In India music is driven by market forces. In Pakistan, there is no market and no money so it's the artist's prerogative and not producers. Producers are risk averse and go with formulaic approach and what has worked in the past.
Agreed. India mein loog gaano ko as a way of income dekhte hain but Pakistan mein for most of the singer, it's a hobby
Lol get a life😂pakistani artists made millions from music india have no talent or beauty to show that the reason accept it and watch pakostani films dramas and music like 99%indians do😅
Burra nhi manna I think India is going to 76% western
And remixes too ☹️
So deep and elaborated analysis , great job 👏🏼
Thank you for bringing it forward...
Honest comparison!!!!!!!the other big difference between indian and pakistani coke studios....... the arrangements of lights....and different camera angles ....most of all their (artists) dedication....... production quality... backing singers.....use of singers.... diversity in voices....
Wow! Yes I missed that point from aesthetic angle!
Obviously... Especially their lighting system , camera angles and their wardrobes
Bhojpuri actually is a very sweet language but the vulgar songs made it dirty. Being born in a bhojpuri family we have been forbidden from speaking it. Feels so sad.
Yes that’s so true! 😑
You dont have to feel it .. change world mind set for bhojpuri music.. from start with yourself .. we can do it
Pakistani coke studio has never hesitate to try new singers.

Wah!im impressed, you raised very important points
Such an honest and amazing reaction
The coke studio platform was started in Pakistan. The Indian music scene has its own strengths. Trying to copy/imitate someone else will never give you a superior result. Best to stick to your own strengths than copying someone else !
After Coke Studio 14, Pakistan has proven once again that they're the best when it comes to making versatile and amazing music. Even their Nescafe Basement is top notch.
Indie Indian singers are producing great songs but they really need a consistent platform like CS or Nescafe Basement.
Also, Bollywood needs to be stopped at all costs 'cause they're ruining masterclass songs that used to define India.

In coke studio 14 they didn't focus on folk and traditional instrument and used more electric music but still nailed it. Now what's the explanation?
They are pure magic, i fail to decode them properly, every season. Season 14 BEAST!
S14 changes good to go
Instruments can be traditional but the technology has always been modern..that’s what they did with season 14, it’s not completely electronic music, it’s a blend of traditional with tech for which you need technologically savvy mindset like Xulfi his team
Your voice is so beautifull , you are so lovely , respect from kpk north pakistan

A very good analysis. The bollywood-fication of Indian music industry across the board has hampered original talent and music. Bollywood is like a strong big tree that won't allow any other smaller tree under it's grove.
But I have to ask does Indian population have the appetite for music different than what bollywood feeds them. Although having my countless Indian friends being fans of CS Pakistan and people from India loving CS Pakistan, some Indian producer need to stand up to bollywood.
You are so decent mam

I agree with Ananya on all points, but I think it's important to acknowledge the exceptional talent of Pakistani musicians and lyricists at an expert level. In addition, when discussing Coke Studio 15, we should also consider the high-quality videography. It's worth noting that Pakistani contributions have had a significant impact on the success of many Indian songs, such as the work of lyricist Qateel Shifai on Kumar Sanu's songs. This demonstrates the valuable influence of Pakistani talent in the music industry.

Coke studio Pakistani music stument jo use karte hai wo gajab hota
In 60s 70s we have noor jehan, nusrat sahab, mehdi hasan, ghulam ali thats why classical music prevails in Pakistan, later veriety came such as atta ullah khan, vital signs, nazia Hassan, our base and root was so strong we kept it and didn't let it go thats why its almost same like old times, but in india they have latta many more legends but Bollywood became so strong and took over music and destroyed it
it is because , Pakistan mai bands bohat banye hein and they were quite successful jab bands hoty hein and 4 se 5 musician apny music k sath experiment karty hein wahan p aik new fusion create ho jata hai . Rohail hayaat and zulfi both are part of band before they started coke studio and nescafe basment respectively where as india mai bands and experimentation wala scene nahi hai . Junoon , vital signs, jal , meekal hassan band and so many bands were produced by Pakistan , where as mai ne kabi Indian band ka name nahi suna . India mai bollywood aik bohat bari market hai and mostly singer bollywood mai as a playback singer k tor p kam karna chaty hein . unka zaida focus nahi hai experimenting p, mai ne coke studio india k kch gaany suny hein seriously the are far behind coke studio Pakistan . Second thing i would like to mention k sound quality of coke studio india is far behind Pakistan.
