Just came across this. Rohail Hyatt's vision was definitely something like what you said but he gave the artists a lot of say. But recently CS 14 has Xulfi as the producer and he took a different direction. Video itself is part of the art this season, rap, sufi lyrics, great Urdu and Balochi songs and lyrics and a background arrangement and electronic music composition mix. Yet its a great season with great music. So that kind of counters your narrative and analysis. I think perhaps they start with themes that are original and local and build lyrics and poetry. India has great culture. Thousands of years of history, more variety in languages and I am sure poetry. Urdu is also an Indian language and nothing beats Urdu poetry. I think what is lacking is vision (producers) and giving artists more say in what they want to do. That's what I think. But somehow yes CS Pakistan is better than other CS around. I think the Bollywood factor in Indian music has kind of taken Indian popular music down to the lowest common denominator. That is a problem. Bollywood is simple and cheap entertainment. It does not produce art though there are always some glimmers of art there for sure from time to time.

Hi Abid. See since time immemorial, technology has always played a huge role in transforming anything including music. After listening to all the songs of CS 14, I have come up with the conclusion that the whole purpose of this season was to experiment with new technology. And this experiment turned successful. How to experiment with new technology in music is something which India must learn from Pak. This technological experiment was successful. But I missed the real instrument. Maybe being 90s kid, I am so used to the life of real instruments.

@@stutijain6290 Well I was a teenager during mid 80's and in college in the 90;s in the US where I learned to play guitar which I have passed on to my son now so I definitely appreciate playing real instruments in songs but experimentation is always good. Sonic breadth should not be limited. In the 90's I did not much listen to desi music and was more into metal and then later Jazz fusion music where real instruments and improvisation on a chordal structure are really all the rage.

I have given CS 14 the marks of 100/100. The only thing is that along with new technology, I wish real instruments would have been an add on. I am personally a lover of both- real life instruments and technological change 😊. Just one question: any idea when is Nescafe basement making a comeback?

Answer is simple. Pakistan music still has Soul, Divine Inspiration and a good heart. Indian music just like general Indian public lack these things becuase they are focused on money, greed, plagirising, devoid of any inspiration or soul. All they look for (and all they have to offer) is Entertainment value, naach gana, shor sharaba.

After the singer finalizes the lyrics and composition. Then Rohal Hyatt adds his own magic to make it presentable. So basically our Hindustani tradition of poetry, music, storytelling is based on our centuries of practices in philosophy and religion and the eternal quest to find the answer to the most important question in the cosmos. The divine love is in the roots of our Hindustani tradition. Sadly Bollywood and commercialism took India into a different direction. In Pakistan we still follow the Hindustani tradition and that's why you, my fellow Hindustani find these songs so close to your heart and soul. Pakistani songs are your songs.

Very good, your all points are valid. We are fortunate to have talent like Rohail Hyatt. He is a real mystery person who started the Coke Studio first. He is a philosopher and lover of nature and lives close to nature. Ha also loves to play with frequencies as we can feel in his music. He often went to self isolation mode with his plants and he is still there after Coke studio 2020. We are also part of nature that's why we feel more what he creates using natural musical frequencies in his music especially in Season 6. Season 6 is a masterpiece of Fusion and well craft music like "Miyan ki malhaar", "Tori Chab", "Yar Vekho", "Lage re Nain" etc. Even we are missing him when he left after season 6 and 2020. He is one of his kind. Now Zulfi is also doing good with young talent in Nescafe Basement and going to produce next season of Coke Studio. You should check these songs with reaction videos including BTS and don't forget to check Rohail's lecture "Perspectives: A Conversation with Rohail Hyatt" at Harvard University.

The difference I noticed is Pakistan has serious talent but it has to be polished and coke studio has given them that platform. I wish I could say that for the Pakistani movie industry but you understand what I mean.
India has had some of the best singers and up to a point they were amazing until the 90s and then something happened they just became uniform in everything. They have proven talent but it's like they are more forced to please public demand than branch out, where as Pakistan are far behind India but because they don't need to satisfy the general public they can branch out. Most of your points are spot on.
I just feel Pakistan is levels above India right now in this department. But India is levels above Pakistan when it comes to making movies.
If I can advise Indian coke studio it will be stop copying and be yourself because even now India produces great music but using the Pakistan platform just does not work for the indian platform countries are so similar but very different at the same time.

Indian music is stick to one trend.
And they lyrics of their pop song also not good except some romantic songs.
Pakistani music did not stick to trend. They explore old and new both music ( with traditional and modern)

A very good analysis. The bollywood-fication of Indian music industry across the board has hampered original talent and music. Bollywood is like a strong big tree that won't allow any other smaller tree under it's grove.
But I have to ask does Indian population have the appetite for music different than what bollywood feeds them. Although having my countless Indian friends being fans of CS Pakistan and people from India loving CS Pakistan, some Indian producer need to stand up to bollywood.

you forget to mention the influence of pakistani pop music on coke studio pk and idk if you knew this rohail hayat is former band member of super pop band vital signs and he used his experience and above all the creativity to produce masterpiece after masterpiece .... and i think indians have to change their view about music that its not sub part of bollywood .... and coke studio artists are not playback singers ....

I agree with Ananya on all points, but I think it's important to acknowledge the exceptional talent of Pakistani musicians and lyricists at an expert level. In addition, when discussing Coke Studio 15, we should also consider the high-quality videography. It's worth noting that Pakistani contributions have had a significant impact on the success of many Indian songs, such as the work of lyricist Qateel Shifai on Kumar Sanu's songs. This demonstrates the valuable influence of Pakistani talent in the music industry.

In 60s 70s we have noor jehan, nusrat sahab, mehdi hasan, ghulam ali thats why classical music prevails in Pakistan, later veriety came such as atta ullah khan, vital signs, nazia Hassan, our base and root was so strong we kept it and didn't let it go thats why its almost same like old times, but in india they have latta many more legends but Bollywood became so strong and took over music and destroyed it

it is because , Pakistan mai bands bohat banye hein and they were quite successful jab bands hoty hein and 4 se 5 musician apny music k sath experiment karty hein wahan p aik new fusion create ho jata hai . Rohail hayaat and zulfi both are part of band before they started coke studio and nescafe basment respectively where as india mai bands and experimentation wala scene nahi hai . Junoon , vital signs, jal , meekal hassan band and so many bands were produced by Pakistan , where as mai ne kabi Indian band ka name nahi suna . India mai bollywood aik bohat bari market hai and mostly singer bollywood mai as a playback singer k tor p kam karna chaty hein . unka zaida focus nahi hai experimenting p, mai ne coke studio india k kch gaany suny hein seriously the are far behind coke studio Pakistan . Second thing i would like to mention k sound quality of coke studio india is far behind Pakistan.
