- The plaintiff says she and the defendant have been friends since childhood, so she let her move in after her divorce. She claims her former friend infested her home with bedbugs and stole thousands of dollars, so she’s suing. The defendant says she moved in with the plaintiff to help with her dog-sitting business, and claims her ex-friend lied to the police. She’s countersuing for stolen property and an illegal eviction.
Case 29-104
It irritates my SPIRIT when litigants sue yet bring ZERO evidence to prove their case.
True. At least have a picture of a damaged bed and furniture's. But nada.
It makes it so easy for the judge to snipe down though. It's like they're handing over their ignorance as it's own exhibit.
lol true
Yes
Yes, just like if you told me a dream catcher works, I would expect you to give me scientific evidence.
How to lose a friend forever:
1. Tell them the truth
2. Loan them money
3. Let them move in with you
Start a business
Date their sibling
#1 is facts. A friend told me to give the truth, I did. And she never talked to me again. A 20yr friendship down the drain over something she asked for and couldn’t take. Smh
I don't know if I agree with number one. You should be honest especially with your best friend, why wouldn't you be able to. If you can't then you just acquaintances. Friendship based on lies isn't friendship. I mean if your doing something that you can't tell someone the truth about then chances are you shouldn't be doing it. 🤷
Play monopoly.
Normally I don't feel bad but for this lady I actually feel bad for her. When I look at her I just see complete sadness. I wish her well and that she ultimately get the help that she needs and deserves 🙏🏾.
I feel the same way. She needs help. :( I hope she finds help and peace.

@@briargrey7515 yea u can send in a selfie of yourself. You have to click on don’t know password under login and it should talk you there.
To heal she needs to 1st admit she's got a prob. She won't since she's in denial. She couldn't even admit to the bed bugs or stolen property that are a result of her actions. Her hand also shook a lot drinking the water. She may been in withdraw from a binge drinking event. Which would make her shake, be dehydrated, & be in a foggy state of mind. She was prob had 3. I have empathy for her friend. Whom tried to help her, but got a crappy friendship return.
Unfortunately, she's most likely drinks as a form of self medication for her bipolar disorder. Mental illness is not always an easy thing to treat. In some cases, it might not even be possible.
As a recovered severe alcoholic, I’m telling you right now, that poor blonde lady is definitely a drinker. I think she was sober for the court case but you can tell she drinks daily and probably enough to qualify as drunk. Booze does something to your face and eyes and speech even when temporarily sober.
As a using alcoholic I 100% agree with you. Congratulations on your sobriety!!!! Every day is one step further into your best life.
She's also not doing well from chronic mental illness. I hope she's gotten the help she needs!
She has the shakes, you can tell she is in withdrawal. Hope she gets help and congratulations on your sobriety.
Same here, agree with you, and hope she’s in a better place. I really wish more people recognized symptoms of addiction and realized people in that state need our help and compassion, rather being left to govern their lives when it’s not within their agency and then punished for doing things while inebriated beyond comprehension for the “normal” drinker.
Do you have an email? I kinda wanna talk to you about this if you don’t mind.
I feel so sad for her. She’s sick and likely suffering from addiction along with her mental health issues. I hope she gets the help or social support she needs.
Well she said she’s getting monthly checks from the government because of her bipolarity. I would assume that’s to cover meds. Alcoholism recovery is free. It’s called AA.
She obviously has friends. She just sucks as a human. Addiction treatment is free. Stop doing it. 😆
@@BloodNote oh wow, you’re so smart! The only reason anyone is ever an addict is because they didn’t know you. “Just don’t be an addict anymore!” That’s why humans have had addiction problems as long as there have been humans, because no one thought of just not doing that.

I believe she knew her friend had a problem & allowed her to come stay with her ..
👍🏾
mmmmhmmm
She would come and stay with her before she moved in.
The defendant looks extremely worn down and almost at the end of her rope, like a walking illustration of the saying, "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a great battle." She deserved to lose on the evidence but the judge was right to emphasize that the court case was far from the most important thing that she needed to take care of.
I feel so sorry for the defendant. I know she was wrong but she could’ve been in a manic state or there could’ve been some self-medicating going on and I just hope she gets the help that she needs!
People who steal don't have integrity. That's why she did it. No excuses. She is now even lying about it and she is not in a manic state. She does not have integrity.
The best way to get help is to admit that you have a problem first
I had someone who I considered a sister come to live with me and that was one of the biggest mistakes of my life. So many things went wrong and she took advantage and had other people coming in the house and either she stole from me or they did and smoked in my house and when I asked her to leave a bunch of stuff went missing and when she came back to get her stuff she broke my husband's car windows. I have never allowed anyone else to stay with us since then and won't allow it again.
Unbelievable
Not surprising. Sadly the ones you know are the ones who screw you over the worst
I couldn’t believe she pleaded guilty to stealing but claims she didn’t do it. Who does that? Especially for that amount of money! Six grand is a lot and more than likely a felony.
The defendant just needs help honestly, she’ll be okay 👍🏿
She looks like she needs Dr. Phil's intervention program.

I feel sorry for the defendant. I know a few people with bi-polar disorder who self medicate with either alcohol or weed or both. It's very debilitating, especially if they have depression attached to it. She needs help, and the plaintiff was not equipped to deal with it. I hope she got help and that she's doing better.
i just pray she never goes on Prozac or Nuzac, worst pills on earth
Many people do not realize the fight that hotels go through with bed bugs. Even the top 5 star hotels are constantly checking for them. There are dogs trained to find bed bugs that the hotels hire to check and clear the rooms.
😲
I hate staying in hotels, soon as i laid in a bed at a hotel 20 minutes into my nap I start itching, threw the covers off and there they were reddish brown under the pillows, I have severe reactions to the pest
As soon as I check into a room, I put the luggage in the bathtub and check all beds, sofa, chair, headboards.
Doug: "Are you trying to help her?"
Friend: "Yes, Sir. That's my reason for living."
I admire the friend's selflessness and at the same time think she is making a huge mistake. The defendant has shown she is not trustworthy and ungrateful of other people's kindness. When you take on other people's problems, they become YOUR problems.
Clearly she has nothing else going on
I think based on her saying its her reason for living could be code that its literally apart of her job. Where she could be her life coach, recovery support specialist or even a case manager. Which they are not obligated to state their profession in public when assisting or attending events for ex court. If their client wishes to be discreet. But are good for support and teaching life skills/ resources to make sure the paperwork after court is handled accordingly on a step by step process. -speaking from a mental health professional myself :)
You sir are correct…truer words have never been said! As much as I feel badly for the defendant, I would be extremely wary of making her “my reason for living”.
And there was not a flicker of gratitude from the defendant when she said that. Guess who the plaintiff in the next case will be?!
I have no respect for selflessness. Helping people is one thing, but like they say on an aeroplane, you affix your own mask first before helping other passengers with their masks. I.e., it is wonder to help others if you can, but don't sacrifice your own interests for the sake of another.
NAMI needs to be involved. Just because you have a disability that people can't see doesn't mean its not REAL.
It took 27 years for my ex to get the real help he needed. He was exactly like this lady. He lost everything. Now he has the best help ever. Long road.

it took me 23 years to realise that my x is the problem, i lost everything due to her in 2005 because the doctor put her on Prozac in 1993, but luckily i stood up again,
I'm sorry the defendant is an alcoholic. I've seen it before . I really do hope she gets help.
I had bedbugs and Thea Papp had a company come out and do the cleaning I was living in bags for months. I had to wash all my clothes and it was horrible long story short no matter all the work they did I had to throw out my beautiful living-room set I was so angry about that and where they came from so don’t know and the building could care less about my furniture I don’t wish that on anyone.
Terrible that something so tiny can cause so much hassle and damage
What a struggle this must have been. The time, expenses, stress and time involved. You have my sympathy. I hope no one would have to deal with this.
It is probably one of the worst experiences ever. Bed bugs are awful !
JM be saying things I know damn well she wouldn’t do. I highly doubt she’d keep furniture that used to contain bedbugs
True. And exterminators do recommend you throw away everything that has/had bedbugs on it. My daughter dealt with a terrible infestation at a rental she lived in. They burrow into the wood and mattress. So gross. I wouldn’t keep it and you’re right JM wouldn’t either.
I don’t care if I was dead broke! I am not keeping bed bug stuff lol I will sleep and sit on the floor first.
The defendant looks like she's had a rough life. It's sad. Good luck to her. 🌹
They're the same age, but the defendant looks 20 years older. I have more empathy for the plaintiff. She was showing her friend kindness by letting her stay with her off and on for two months, then letting her move in - even after finding out about the bedbugs! And at the end still just wanted her friend to get well and come back. The defendant, on the other hand, is still in denial about everything.
When you have bottles lying all over the place ,your an alcoholic.
that was my first thought too. i've seen alcoholics hide fifths of vodka in the dishwasher, the laundry room, the garage. then they always say they don't drink much. grrrrrl you got dishwasher vodka. 🙄
The defendant looks 20 yrs older than the plaintiff. There’s so much more to her story.
There’s not much more. She’s an alcoholic.
I'm glad the defendant has someone to help her, God Bless Her.
Why would you take your bedbug infested laundry to a laundromat and spread that around to be somebody else’s problem????
If the items are washed in very hot water, it kills the bugs and eggs, so they shouldn't spread to the next user of the machine. Usually commercial machines can get hotter than residential ones since they're made for heavier use.
If you put it in the dryer on the HOT cycle after washing it, it will kill the live bedbugs and even the eggs.
LOL at the dark haired woman in the audience to the left of the Blond Defendant who keeps nodding off and almost falling asleep. She shouldn’t have sat in the front row if she knew she was that tired and sleepy. Towards the end she is barely hanging on. 😂😂😂
I have been a sucker for friends. It took me years to opt out of a friendship with a woman who stole, cheated and lied to and about others. I realized that I chose them as a friend because they were fun and outrageous and I was not. When I saw them steal and lie about other close friends and was OK with their friends stealing from me I woke up. You have a right to evict people from your life if they do not do things that you are morally against.
My friend lived in his home for a year before I spent the night on his couch. I woke up swollen and bruised from his bed bugs. He had never been bitten whereas I had been covered and apparently allergic. It's possible, to be fair.
Probably had been bitten just doesn’t react to the bites
Yep, you are absolutely right. During an especially rough time my husband and I were homeless and took shelter in a super cheap "flop house" type "hotel". Well, omg it never occurred to me that bedbugs would be a thing to worry about...but the next morning I woke up looking like Quasimodo, my face was swollen and misshapen, I had lumps on me and was itching like crazy. My husband had no indications of having been bitten. So yeah, some people just don't have any reaction and some of us have a severe one. I tend to have the same reaction to any sort of insect bites.
Needless to say we got TFO of there immediately, washed everything etc. Happy ending, that was a long time ago and all is well, safe and happy now.
Actually, though, I think I would RATHER be a person with a reaction to those things because the thought of living with something like that and not knowing is just WAY too creepy!!
I stayed at friends house overnight and out of town after a late concert and woke up with welts on my legs because his cat's had fleas. At least I think they were fleas???

Last case?? There was more than one case??
The defendant needs to check herself into some rehab.
INpatient rehab can be a powerful weapon in fighting cravings and delaying the progress of the disease. You are CUT OFF from booze and drugs during your stay, if the rehab properly enforces intended policy. They will help you if you have severe cravings and mental health issues. If you need to, a ride will be given to the ER, again, even if you have no insurance or money, if it comes t it, the hospital WILL help you out, even if it is not ideal. You stay long term it can last MONTHS. At LEAST you get a chance to sober up and then YOU decide. You want to jump right back into substances after you leave. Your choice! Or do you FINALLY want a better life?
and if you have no insurance and no money, there are places that are certified who will take you in as well. They are not the elite, but if you make the most of it, you can find shelter there. If you have no money at all, there are STILL resources to help you out!
having no money or health insurance is a problem, but they are not just going to let you die. We are beyond that as a society.
One bedroom studio? Those are 2 different things.
There are 3 things you going to absolutely know you have Bed bugs, mice and roaches
Yea it sucks when someone brings them too you.
and sadly, too often, alcoholics. Once they move in with you and you notice the behavior, it truly becomes a nightmare. Especially when they slam the door on you and continue to drink.
Demand to spend at least an hour in any apartment, condo, room or whatever you are moving into before you sign anything. The varmints will show up if you keep looking
Actually no. Bed bugs can be hard to spot because they are small, good at hiding and are only active at night. And some parts of the population don’t even react to the bites. So unless the infestation is so large the bugs have to come out of hiding, it’s possible to live with bed bugs without knowing it.
Watching this episode was hard: my best friend from 4th grade got into drugs. She's "not there" anymore. She thoroughly filled a clothes washer, then pushed it down and put more laundry in. It was so jammed in, that when we went back later, the soap was still on the top, so she shook it off and put the laundry in the dryer.... In the community* laundry room!
I miss you, Denise! 💙
I’m sorry this was hard to watch and I think it would’ve been better for the plaintiff to sue her former friend privately. She’s already facing criminal charges. If you didn’t want to wait for restitution and filed a separate civil suit, then sue privately. Don’t embarrass her like this on TV... especially when you don’t even bother to bring evidence to prove your case! This felt like kicking someone while they’re already laid out on the ground.
True. It's a sad case
They both have to agree to being on the show. The litigant probably agreed bc the show pays the awarded damages to the “winner” so it was one more thing off her plate that she knew she’d have had to pay for eventually

Actually it kind of doesn’t, that’s the unfortunate reality of our legal system. People are told “plead guilty and go home now with a fine, or fight it, sit in jail, pay way more than the fine, and go to jail for years if you lose.” I know you think you’d fight it on principle, but you’d be in the minority there.

Actually judge, the bedbug presence is not always known. Not everyone gets bites, even if the bug bites you depending on your body’s chemistry you may have a reaction (the bites and rashes) or you may not have a reaction.( no bites) they are good at hiding and they only come out when they’re body tells them that your asleep. They actually start off being invisible and then they get their brownish reddish color from your blood. They usually hide in the walls , baseboards and under your mattress. So yeah unless you have bites, or your randomly checking your mattress it is very possible you don’t know. Not saying this is the case but just some facts.
And they usually don't feast on people with alcohol in there system

If you have a friend who needs help, pay their rent for 2 months directly to the landlord, make the friend sign the lease (never put anything in your name), visit them at their own apartment, make them some meals, buy them some groceries, never live with them or 'lend' them money or sign anything for them. My father is an alcoholic who is currently in a rehab mental institution so I really really empathize with the defendant. I will be praying for her strength. Alcoholism is a real thing and it’s not easy and most people don’t understand unless you’ve witnessed it firsthand
Defendant was a mess. 😅
She looks like she has been drinking during this whole case she’s drunker than Cooter Brown😂😂😂😂😂
Just love Judge Marilyn shows,,,,,
If somebody brought bed bugs to my house, i wouldn't be pleasant either! Just nasty
Something about the plaintiff seem like she's a liar.
My daughter had a bed bug infestation and she had to throw her kids bedroom furniture away. They literally get deep into the wood and the exterminator couldn’t guarantee they wouldn’t come back unless they threw them away.
“Can I see proof?” “I don’t have that”. Why do people come so unprepared?
