      Never really thought about it before. But I have noticed in some games refs giving more free kicks towards the end of the game. Now it makes sense.

      @@adrianruvalcaba2896 Yeah, probably has nothing to do with the teams trying to waste time, starting to give lots of fouls, and taking their time to stand up after a foul. Just the refs wanting to take a breath (in case it´s not clear, sarcasm)

      It's a yo yo test. Gives them a recovery zone which you could see marked out by the red and blue cones. Very different test to the bleep test but similarly exhausting. Wouldn't surprise me if these guys were regularly scoring 14 and above on the bleep test.

      I was a county level cross country runner at school and I couldn't get passed level 15 and that was literally sprinting from line to line just catching the beeps each time. Cant be the same distance surely unless carragher n Neville in there 40s are county runner level of fitness

      I think Bleep test and Yoyo test are two different things. Correct me if I'm wrong but I remember that Yoyo is a litttle longer and slightly more time to rest. At the end of the day, it test the same thing.

      Actually it’s a great tactic to take the heat off sometimes. Slow down play, players refocus, everything calms down.

    I'm a young coach and i like to respect referee's while I'm on the sideline and also serve as an example for my players. After this video i have gained even more respect for the refereeing job and will continue to act responsible on the sideline. Regards to every single hard working referee :)

    Good to highlight the effort and all the hard training refs do, they deserve more credit and respect, such an thankless job! In any walk of life if someone verbally abuses you they get sacked or arrested, shouldn't be any different in football

      This isn't the bleep test, its the arriet test. It starts at level 7 or 8 and get quicker alot faster than the bleep test does.

    I never thought my amateur rugby fitness training is actually almost the same as PGMOL referee fitness training. I don't mean it in any bad way. Just wanted to say my previous coach did a good job in training us to have great amount of fitness. He used to be a referee too, both in amateur league of rugby and football. Most rugby athlete pro or amateur in my country do play both rugby and football because we appreciate both sport

    Neville was absolutely wiped after the yo-yo test - the will to complete the next stage is what gets you 8 Premier Leagues, 3 FA Cups and 2 Champions Leagues

    Carra played many extra time games during his LFC days while Gary played only fergie time. That explains their fitness level difference.

      Bro, I don't think you know what fergie time means, let me give you an example to illustrate. Let's say for example manu was tied in extra time, and let's say that extra time was officially 4 min, fergie time is the time manu would actually score the winning goal which in this case would be something like in the 5th minute or so.
      So by that logic Neville should be the fitter of the 2

    That bleep test looks different to the MSFT. Not like continuous shuttles between two points but increasingly fast loops from the same point. Can anyone shed any light? Ever done it?
