  • Took her out to Bragg creek to ride trails for the first time. The Stache proved to be a great bike for a beginner rider. She did awesome!

    Awesome trails out at Bragg Creek, and that Stache 7 was a lot of fun. That bike is great for new riders, the plus tire gave her a lot of confidence over the roots and rocks.

    Nice. Been there with my wife too, with Marlin & Xcaliber . Best companion is Wifey. Don't have to wait for buddies all the time although some rides need to be with buddies to keep our skills up 😎🙏🏻🚴🏻🚴🏻‍♀️Enjoy.

    Hi if I would convert my stache 7 to 27.5 can you give me any suggestions on what kind of wheelset, tires or other parts I would be getting? For a not so expensive price. Do you think stache would do well on a 2.3 or 2.6 wide tires? Thanks a lot! =)

      I think the geometry would be fine for a smaller tire, but I wouldn't go smaller than 2.6, even 2.8 is nibble enough unless you are trying to bring the weight down. There are a lot of wheel sets out there, I don't have enough experience and there are some other resources that would be way better if you google them. The wheel set, in my opinion, makes the biggest difference to how a bike feels, aside from the geometry of course. So if you can afford a decent wheel set then do it. I tend to buy $1000-$1500 cad, wheel sets that make the rolling weight lighter but keep the bike stiff.

      I asked this because I am only 5'3 and I think it would be easier to maneuver the bike if it has 27.5 wheelset. Wow I did not know that wheelset can be that expensive. Haha.. Love your bew bike by the way! Thanks for thw reply 😊

    Todd, great video. Are you also riding on a Stache 7? Looks like you switched out the factory bars. Any other modifications?

    • @ToddJones

      Thanks Jim! I swapped the bar and stem out, will do the same on my gf's bike. I find it make a huge difference and tend to go carbon on all my bikes for the compliance and stiffness. These bars are Race Face Sixc's with Bontrager Line Pro stem. I set both bikes up tubeless, dropped 1.5lb's off the bike. I ordered blackspire cogs for our bikes to change from a 32 to 28 tooth. Also ordered dropper posts. I want to do a wheelset, but this isn't a race bike for me, just something to have some fun on.

      Is the green in the Sixc's a perfect color match? What bar width did you go with? I'm thinking about the Bontrager line elite 30 wheelset to run 2.6" tires. I just ordered a pair of Nobby Nic's in a 2.6" to experiment on the Duroc 50's. We're you thinking about a 29 or 27.5 wheelset?

      @ToddJones  Před 7 lety +1

      I really like the idea of staying fat, so I was thinking of running a 27.5 custom build with RF Arc rims and hope hubs, pairing that with some 2.8 or 3.0 Maxxis tires. I think what you are planning would be an awesome compliment to the bike, making it more efficient for sure. I've always been happy with Bontrager wheels, the line elite stuff has a nice hub. I don't think that tire will ride very well on 50mm rims, but let me know!

      How about the color of the handlebars and width? I went tubeless on mine as well. The 60tpi chupa's are really heavy you could save an additional 370g by upgrading to the 120 tpi's

      Touche, not sure why but I never thought about the tires, I figured they were team issue already.. lol.
      The bars were 800, I cut them down to 780. And the green is pretty close, hard to tell the difference, it doesn't look bad. I make a video of the upgrades once they are done.

    Thinking about buying one of these bikes. Do you think its worth waiting a few months for the new model, or do you think bikes really don't change much each year?

    • @ToddJones
      @ToddJones  Před 7 lety

      The stache frame is new withing the last two years. I don't thin they'
      ll be changing it this year. If they do, they'll possibly be adding knock block to it, which arguably doesn't do that much anyway. I would like to see a better front fork on the 2018 model. Hard to say when that will be launched. If you can gt one for a good deal, do it. If not, wait. Although I know they are sold out, so finding one might be tough.

      I found one and bought it. However, it looks like someone else had it before me as there was mud on some spots. Not happy at the moment here. Ill have to give them my two cents as there are a couple of paint chips here and there and a sticker has a little gash in it.
