I heard from experts, that the F1 2019 will be faster than 4 seconds in the 2018 vehicle counters.

Marcos Casado so they are good enough to drive in formula one for a few seasons which would make them one of the top 20 drivers in the world but as soon as they move to Indy they suck? F1 is all about the car. Thy never had good enough ride in F1. They became stars in Indy because it is a spec series where the cars are on a much more level playing field. Decent. Yeah, Verstappen in Q3 went 1.47.765 with Latifi lapping at 2.21.611 for Q1, split at 33.846, almost double the time here. And if you factor in that the quali lap for Indy was 5 seconds faster, that knocks it down to 12. Verstappen almost tripled it. Granted resurfacing and cold temps. But yeah, Turkey was not pretty, threw everyone's average gap over teammate stats right out the window. I watch every one of those series when they are on TV. I follow them all. I hope we all can enjoy all racing for what it's worth: entertainment. The incredible acceleration and track stickiness of F1 cars, the insane 235+ MPH top speed of the Indy cars, the sound and excitement of 40+ Nascars tearing around tracks, the slickness of E-racing and the TT on the Isle of Mann. What we see are drivers with huge testicles and skill that we dream of having. We are in awe. Let's not negatively compare the series to each other. Ironically the two drivers shown here in this clip are my favorites from their respective series.

@@themarketm8382 it's all to please motor companies. F1 doesn't really care much for sustainability. They've recently added races in countries with lots of oil after all. The thing is cars are either going electric or hybrid. However, to keep an ice engine, they'd have to use sustainable fuels to run them. Companies like Mercedes, Porsche and Toyota have been very vocal about sustainability in their projects. With their fuel, F1 would be making a lot of money. Another thing is the low emission V6s with hybrid systems are developed so car manufacturers can make more efficient engines. Going back to V10s (or V8s, which I prefer) would mean falling out with all of these companies who are looking for sustainability and efficiency. Believe it or not, this trend is mostly for economic benefits. As much as I like the push towards sustainability, F1 isn't doing it for moral reasons
Edit: also, another thing is it would likely cost manufacturers a lot money to redevelop V8s/V10s, which is a fair point. At the moment, Renault, Mercedes, Ferrari and Honda have similar engines. They wouldn't wanna risk another team having an enormous advantage through engine development, like Mercedes in 2014

Comparing Hamilton's 2018 pole lap and a IndyCar preseason testing lap is absurd from the start. Considering the triple digit million dollar budget differences for just one F1 team, IndyCar produces an incredible racing machine and franchise. 231 MPH pole speed for the 2020 Indy 500 is jaw dropping and I'm pretty sure an F1 car wouldn't be competitive at Indy because they're hybrids and rely on energy harvesting to replenish their battery and at Indy it's flat out, very little braking.
I watch and love both series. They are 2 different animals, both exceptional at what they do.

For simple perspective Indycar speeds around a balanced circuit are almost exactly equal to f2. 17 seconds a lap slower is going to get lapped every 6 laps. 17 seconds is such a big margin that no matter how much you analyse it they are two different worlds, from the fastest teams to the slowest the difference is massive. If F1 raced ovals then the top end would also be higher, it's clearly not beneficial on any f1 circuit so they just don't need it.

It certainly looks like the specs on the F1 machines make for more speed through turns, more rapid deceleration under braking, I couldn't tell about top straight line speed. The tires on the F1 cars looked like they put substantially more rubber on the track surface which would make a huge difference on a road surface for all three dynamic situations, acceleration, breaking and turning.
I suspect the F1 cars might STILL have an advantage on an oval like Indianapolis, but maybe the gap would be less? A track like COTA is the natural habitat of the F1 technology, everything tailored made for that.
The F1 stuff does look more demanding to drive, so it's hard to argue that their drivers aren't the very best. But the "space program" budgets of the F1 teams....wow!
I suppose Indycar could spec up their machines and be as quick as F1, but that might not make for better racing for venues like the ovals. Would it compromise safety running F1 specs on ovals? I don't know.

Take it from someone who watches both Formula 1 and IndyCar (and loves each) every race day: Formula 1 and IndyCar are completely different series in every way except for both being open-wheel; the similarities end there. The cars are designed for completely different styles of racing with vastly different rules and financial commitments in terms of development. I'll cover the big ones:
Engine - While both run twin turbo V6s, F1 cars are actually hybrids that drastically improve performance in terms of acceleration (this is partly why Mercedes has dominated as a constructor; the tech is extremely expensive and they have the resources to be the best at its implementation).
Steering - F1 cars have power steering, IndyCars don't. The IndyCar COTA race was laughed at because there were several turns where track limits weren't enforced, but that's because IndyCars can't actually make the corner at speed by design (COTA itself was designed for Formula 1 racing).
Cost - You can field an IndyCar for around $3,000,000, and all the cars are basically the same except for running either a Honda or Chevy engine. By contrast, fielding an F1 car can cost hundreds of millions and varies widely depending on the financial commitment of the constructor. Again, this is why Mercedes dominates (their budget for 2019 alone was almost half a billion US dollars).
Driver skill - Generally speaking, IndyCar races feature more parity since the equipment provides a level playing field, so driver skill counts for a lot as you fight the car around the track. F1 drivers, arguably the most skilled motorsport drivers in the world, are almost completely anchored to the technical strength of the car. Hamilton wins everything because he's an excellent driver in an excellent car, Raikkonen loses everything because he's an excellent driver in a garbage car, and so it goes. The car is so important that a statistically weak driver like Bottas (sorry Finns) can still compete for pole and the win every race despite being out-skilled by other drivers in the field.
So yeah, a side-by-side video comparing the two is cool and all, but it's just a novelty. You can't compare these series. F1 cars are the quickest, most technically advanced, and probably require the greatest skill to drive without wrecking, but IndyCar is actually still the fastest series there is at a top speed of 240mph (for no other reason other than they race at IMS, their flagship race).

It's not even the difference in speed that's amazing. It's the smoothness and refinement. F1 is so advanced it just glides over the track. F1 has become a video game-like race, too much of electronic assists. Look how much steer correction indy car driver made compared to F1 driver

    • @cybersaiko451
      @cybersaiko451 Před 3 lety +1

The only assist F1 drivers get is the power steering, no ABS or traction control like in the past. I think the smoothness comes from 1) higher downforce 2) overall design of the car and setup 3) the driver being a 7 time world champion. They still have to control nearly 1000bhp and are pulling high Gs through corners, so it's far from a video game.

I still think the ultimate test would be seeing how an F1 car would do on an oval like Indy, Michigan or Fontana. Someone said on another post I made about this subject that the F1 cars would initially do well, but as the laps wore on they would lose power due to them not regenerating the batteries.

Indycar would blow f1 away as soon as it got up to speed, but f1 would lead for the start, that’s the difference between the 2, f1 accelerates quicker while INDYCAR has a higher top speed
