Eagle Katipunero, when there is a dispute, it means that each side thinks the other is wrong. If you know the facts (by reading what the international documents which Philippines agreed to says, you will know that the territory of Philippines does not include those islands in 1947 (ie. Even after 2nd world war). The reason being the USA was friendly with China at the time the government of China is the Nationalist Guomingtang, which wasn't today's communist government. Philippines is only claiming the atolls now because America wants her to confront China for america's own interests. According the UNCLOS, it deals with economic rights to the seas, not the lands, and also does not rule on territorial rights. Fighting a war on the interests of another country is stupid. America is not going to sacrifice for Philippines against China. Just as China will not sacrifice for Mexico if there's a dispute in America over fishing and territorial claims in the future. Your country was pro-America because many Philippinos were migrants to USA up until 3 years ago, when the immigration laws of USA was very lax. From 2016 onwards, due to the massive immigration into USA by Latinos from Central American countries. Now only selected greencards are issued for the rich entrepreneurs, highly qualified Scientists/Engineers, or those who can prove that members of their immediate families are already Americans, will be accepted. Obama started the new scheme for immigrants.

My point is that China is very hard to defeat because it spends a large portion of its income into military, the country is also fking huge with modern military equipment just like us. Ricardo I am a Chinese national. My stance is similar to the one forwarded by professor Shiue-lih from CASS (organ under State Council of China) in that the South China Sea dispute is primarily a dispute of interests. Interests can be negotiated. And in the grander scheme of things, a nation state must go beyond its self interest in consideration of humanity as a whole. Why not set aside this sovereignty nonsense and co-develop? We are mostly talking about sea shoals and rocks several centimeters above or below sea level depending on the tide with the majority of them situated several days journey away via sea from any surrounding nation states. There is no sea rock more so nation X versus nation Y. There has been suggestions of setting up an international organization sharing sovereignty and interest with all of contentious parties involved. Use that revenue to do good. This is the sort of healthy thinking that we need and I hope there will be more it here in China as time progresses.
That being said, nationalism and territorial disputes are not restricted to SE Asia. The coming of UNCLOS in 1982 is exemplary of unjust international law and the sort of in fighting and calculation between interest parties in the backstage. That is too big of a topic to be tackled here. What can I say, looks like the human race still has a long way to go.
