Thank you! Five minutes of work and saved about $75 for another arm. I won't be pushing piled up snow anymore with the arm.
I didn't know Peter Griffin had a car repair channel
Make him laugh
My first thought as well😄
🤣🤣🤣
Hahaha
Get this guy 200 chicken fajinas
Thanks for the video. When my wipers quit moving my mind was filled how to take it a part and how much it would cost me. I took the arms off and the smooth splines looked ruined. Your video saved the day and money. I cleaned the up and so far so good.
Yep. My blade was frozen. I was on my way to the garage, but u saved my day. Big thanks.
Great to hear!
@@RichpinTv it must feel good knowing you helped thousands of people over the years.
You're a big help, Rich. Your solution worked perfectly.
You saved from going down a rabbit hole. A sincere thank you.
Glad to help
Thanks, my wiper arm just failed on me during a downpour. Drivers side to boot! Gonna use this info to fix it once the rain lets up, THANKYOU!
This addresses the exact problem on my van. Thanks!
👍 Dude, thank you for taking your time in sharing your experiences. This info has helped. One wiper blade has stopped operating from my car and followed your advice, it worked very well. One Note: I found the wiper-blade's nut loosed when removing the cover. I still cleared the ridges and reset. Did it on both just to get it over with. All Good now!
It worked. It took 5 minutes. I used a sharp kitchen knife. Thank you.$$$
Same....5 minutes
This helped alot, mine were completey filled with dirt and metal, they work for now, but I have to order new wiper arms too. Thanks for this video, saved me a lot of money.
Glad I could help
I have one that stripped out. Plus it’s starting to sprinkle today. Thanks for the easy fix. 👍
Your welcome.
Thank you! I'll give that a try tomorrow. 👍
Excellent channel 👍🏻
Great video.it saved the day on my 2004 Nissan Xterra. It also saved me 90 bucks .i would have replaced it
Thank you soo much I can’t imagine what I would have been charged to get this fixed!
glad i could help.
I started my Saturn up one winter morning this year and the driver side wiper just fell onto the ground. Thing evidently rusted through. Had to get one from a u-pull.
Thanks for taking the time to explain this!!
My pleasure!
Chevy Ventures have that problem a lot. Good tip.
Great valuable advice 🤘🇬🇧
Thanks for the great video I just finished my 2014 nissan pathfinder had the same issue
Glad it helped
Thank you!
What if both wiper an the teeth on the bolt are stripped? Is there a way to save this or have to buy a whole new motor?
Thanks, good idea! helped for now..
I've just replaced the linkage on my car and now the sweep on the driver wiper is a bit too long, my wiper hits the a piller and the lower seal. The linkage is straight so I think the aftermarket part is a bit long and I don't think the sweep can be adjusted, can it?
Nailed it! Thanks Rich.
You're welcome!
Thanks for the info!
Also if you don't want to buy new arms and you even this fix doesn't provide perfect grip - very soft wire. If you have very soft wire lying around, you can use it to make it fit better.
Thanks for sharing
Worked for me than you so much!!
Do I need to replace the arm if the threads are stripped out ?
Literally a lifesaver, thank you
Glad it helped!
USE A WIRE BRUSH
Somebody lifted mine up and I can not unlock it. Scared to berrak something. How do I unlock it and bring it to normal position? Thanks
Hey Richpin do you have any replacement arms for the driver's side? I will pay you if you get this message.
Thanks you bro help me in 2020
I'm supprised that the splines will drive the aluminium, i would of expected you to need to wrap the splines with 1 to 2 turns of ptfe tape or tin foil to take up the room.
How long did that last ?
If you don’t mind me asking
Dissimilar metals in a water environment, no wonder they fail. I see the weaker metal, the aluminum, is designed to fail first, so the repair is easier than if the male end stripped out.
This is exactly what I am dealing with today. Thanks. It seems that the lost aluminum material would need to be replaced??? Inside the hole of the wiper arm; the metal has been worn smooth by the spindle. Could one add a metal resin, or coat it with a thin layer of something like JB Weld???
yes or add some wire to the wiper oriface, three pieces will add grip, or jb weld
Faced the same problem, wiper arm splines worn out slick smooth.JB weld lasted a year.
Here I am now repairing the process
Hi. When reinstalling the new wiper arm do you drive it down on to the spline or just tighten the bolt?
I just tighten the nut.
I wonder why car manufacturers haven‘nt figured out a better design for this. Like maybe use a stronger material instead of aluminum so they wont strip as easily. I have had two older cars and both of them have (partially) stripped wiper arms. Definetely a common thing in colder climates and people don‘t know these arms work so they use them as snow plows in the winter and strip them out. But the biggest problem was for both of my cars i could‘nt buy these arms new anymore otherwise it would be no biggie.
I have this problem right now (passenger side luckily). As to why they use aluminum instead of steel on the wiper arm I'd guess it's to provide a known failure point (kinda like a fuse in an electrical circuit). Far better to strip out the arm than to screw up the underlying mechanism or drive motor and have to replace and adjust all that. Been there and it is not fun at all.
awesome
What is that part called
My problem is the arms under the hood. Keeps detaching so they don't move.
No amount of scraping out excess metal could fix my problem so I just ran my drill through the arm and post screwed in a black sheet metal screw works fine now. Easier and cheaper than replacing the wiper transmission. Good idea though just wouldn’t work for me.
good fix
An easier fix someone just mentioned earlier was using PTFE tape any kind will do, and just tightening the screw, i just did it for my blazer who's outer arm was stripped smooth
Does this mean that after you clean the splines, that you must buy a new wiper arm? Or is it OK to reuse the old arm and it will grip?
After the first time it usually works but if the arm gets striped multiple time then the arm will eventually have to be replaced.
Thank you. I successfully removed my arm this morning and scratched out the splines. I remounted it and tightened it down. It appears to have worked. Thank you!
Could I put loctite on the grooves?
Does anyone know if arm labeled left hand goes on passenger side or driver side?
The longer arm goes on the driver side in most cars
Thank you...
You're welcome!
I bought me a use truck but just one wiper work.
What size nut? Hello?!?
What if the bolt above that is stripped??? Not the arm, but the bolt itself?
czcams.com/video/2Wo4GpiBBSU/video.html
do what mike blake did above
Thank u
Your welcome.
I have to do this by -40...
3 years later but I'm in the same boat. Wiper fluid is frozen, blade went flying off on the highway this morning heading home from work, stopped and bought new blades, when I pulled the wiper arm up to put the new blade on stripped the arm on the drive. Now once my fingers thaw I gotta go out and attempt this. I really miss having a garage.
Windshield keep hitting
Wire brush is way faster....🤘
I drove my car to an auto store to address the issue, which cost me 110 dollars, F*
I should have seen ur video first!
This guy has a Boston accent 😂
Wait is this everyone loves Raymond speaking?
Tedious!!!
took a little over 3 minutes to do absolutely zip. If it's stripped, cleaning the splines out doesn't do anything but waste time going nowhere. don't watch the whole thing folks, find another video channel and hope they are at least 2% smarter.
Then why are there thousands of people here saying it did work. And it worked for me. Your an incompetent loser.
