    Finally after 6 months I have mine fully working 100%. Wasn’t that hard to waterproof either. Man this thing zips. I’m pretty sure it’s only about 15mph, but it goes fast enough to make you scared of a fall, and trust me on this one… when you fall you’ll definitely get a badge of honor for it. I still love telling people when they ask “where did you buy that?” And I say “I made it” the look on their face is priceless.

      it looks like a NIGHTMARE to waterproof! Still awesome though.

    • @Technicallyaddicted
      @Technicallyaddicted Před 2 lety +4

      @@leeboss6631 oh my god was it difficult to waterproof. I had to build silicone layers like a 3D printer in a couple places. I’d say water resistant. And to the above question: there is no way in hell a 48v battery pack is ever going to power a 200lb man to 25mph. You need to ram up to at least 15s(60v) to achieve 20+mph. The wheel diameter is what limits this equation. Make the wheel 20” tall and you can hit 30mph on 36v dewalt packs. The problem with onewheels is that they are limited by their form factor. And if you bought a FM onewheel it’s also limited by tyrants who hate diy. I doubt you want to go faster. I was one of those people who say: I want my board to go freeway speed. Everyone thinks that until they wreck. I wrecked at 15-18mph and it shredded about 10% of my skin, I lost almost a quart of blood, and it was very difficult to ride in that condition. Moral of the story: wear pads.

    I bet the float wheel kits were shut down for patent infringement on OneWheel. I want to try to build one with dead hoverboard parts but I bet they only have half the power as a real onewheel. Seems they are mostly about 350w where one wheel seem to be about 750w.

    • @RwP223
      @RwP223 Před 2 lety

      What is the special technology in a OneWheel? The software? It comes down to FM has a team of patent attorney's who will straight work the patent judges and examiners, and corporations are under maritime laws and cannot get a trial by jury where they'd lose 10/10 times. The parts to make a onewheel are ubiquitous now.
      A "Cease and Desist" letter from some non-government attorney means nothing, it can go in the shredder. What means something however is a letter or letterhead, serving from a Government agency or a Court. When FM files the lawsuit, they must prove damages #1, but #2 they're going to start really paying for their retained patent attorney team.

    Awesome video!! Is there or will there be a Float XR ?? I'm hoping there will be, and I also hope it's around $1000 or less because that would really get heads turning! I also am wondering if the VESC is rock solid and smooth and as reliable as onewheels? Or is there some room for improvement? And lastly, it doesnt look like the float is very sealed, are there rubber gaskets to install to get a water and dust/dirt resistance?

    • @TheBoardGarage
      @TheBoardGarage Před 3 lety +5

      The potential of the VESC platform is pretty substantial. There are beta firmwares being tested right now that ride very close to (and with the right setup, better than) a Onewheel. Reliability is really more at the component level. Not all VESCs are made equal, and neither are all batteries. With the right skill and planning, you can make something better and more powerful than an XR (what I'm currently working on).
      As for water resistance, not at all. This kit isn't water resistant as is. On the Discord, there are newer better files to print, that make boxes for the components. And you can go from there and make a pretty water resistant build. But you have to take the time to do it, and it'll only be as resistant as you make it.

  • @marsbase3729
    @marsbase3729 Před 3 lety +6

    This is really awesome. One thing I would suggest is adding a couple of little wheels at the front edge of the board to prevent the front from digging in and throwing the rider off if the front lands to far forward. Not usually a problem, but more than a few people have been seriously injured from that.

      As a Onewheel owner, I've got to disagree. I feel Futuremotion charges way too much for their product currently. I can understand the high cost of the original Onewheel since they had to recoup all the research and development costs, but I personally feel that paying almost $2k for an XR is just too much. Now that they've got their programming down, they SHOULD be able to lower the sale price as component costs aren't anywhere near that $2k mark. HOWEVER, I do understand that FM owns the patents, did the development, and created an amazing product that they can sell for whatever the market will allow. They are very sensitive about their IP and have a good team of attorneys that they have successfully used against almost all other companies who have tried to sell a similar product in the United States. I truly hope that Floatwheel can stick around and not be sued into oblivion by the overzealous FM legal team. Great job, Floatwheel! I'm definitely buying a kit if my questions about the motor are answered satisfactorily.

      @@gabrielprandini2629 FM as a company is pretty bad. There customer service is questionable and it is very clear they only care about making money and not about the consumer. They have created app updates that brick people's boards that are modified, which I think speaks volumes. If you have to buy anything from FM, only buy the board and nothing else. There are a ton of 3rd party onewheel companies that have amazing accessories for the onewheel and have outstanding customer support. I will say though, my XR is one of the best purchases I have ever made, and the product is solid. The resell value is very good and I enjoy riding it more than I enjoy most things in life. In addition, the onewheel community is absolutely awesome. But as an option for a second board, this floatwheel is great. The only downside I can see to buying the floatwheel is the resell value is probably not there. To save $300 dollars on a board would be worthwhile if the board held value as well as the pint does.

    Float wheel is brazenly flouting The IP of US companies who invested considerable time and money in developing their innovations, and who rightfully should expect their patents to protect their investment in R&D. Float wheel is ripping ALL of them off. I have zero respect for anyone I see riding one of these. Zero
