Ducati Panigale V2 road review - the best baby Ducati sports bike yet?

  • The Ducati Panigale V2 takes the looks of the Panigale V4 but chucks in a more traditional L-Twin engine and a more affordable suspension setup. But does it feel like a baby bike, or is there still enough here to entertain you on the road? Join me for some of the best induction noise this side of a Dyson and some autumnal wobbling on Bologna's finest

    Great review! As someone who has owned a 959 and currently owns a V2 I can say they are fantastic bikes. The 959 felt amazing to me and had far more power than I would ever need on the road but it just lacked that final bit of Ducati sexiness.. the double-sided swingarm and the shotgun exhaust lost its charms. Both the V2 and the 959 have rigid mirrors sadly and I broke them on both bikes.. some CRG Arrows fixed the looks and the safety so I can see behind me now.
    If anyone gets on one of these bikes, I'd be surprised if you can get off it without a huge smile at the end!
    Ride safe everyone.

      Bought my V2 today :) First thing im gonna change are the mirrors, since they are useless. Thought about the Rizoma stealth mirrors, but think im gonny buy something thats actually usefull, like the DB Race mirrors :) And i wont have to buy separate indicators

      @@mrhenrik7472 Great choice! Yes the mirrors are a complete waste of plastic! I went for the CRG Arrows but I did consider the Rizoma, I ultimately went more subtle. I haven't seen the DB Race mirrors, googling now...

    It's not all Americans who clean their bikes like show vehicles. I only was my bikes if they happen to get rode in the rain or if they just look horrible. When I see a bit of dirt and grim on a bike, I know it's ridden, not just polished and stored. Great video!!!

  • @danieloconnell4225
    @danieloconnell4225 Před 2 lety +2

    Test rode this and the 950S SuperSport - bought the SuperSport. For 'real world' conditions, the 950S is simply the better ride - less-compromised seating, arguably better suspension, and still plenty of power. The V2 wins hands-down for a track day, but if you're mostly after a ride for fast back-roads, commuting to work, and the occasional track day, the SuperSport just makes more sense I feel.

    • @timrodierides
      @timrodierides  Před 2 lety +2

      Absolutely agree - I did a 950S SuperSport review just after riding the Panigale and came to the same conclusion

    • @danieloconnell4225
      @danieloconnell4225 Před 2 lety +2

      @@timrodierides aye that’s just it - the 950S actually reminds me of the old 916, with similar power and weight and even looks, but with much superior tech. I see the SuperSport as an ‘oldschool’ sports motorcycle, and the fact that I can do well on track but also ride home after without hating said ride makes it the right call for people not obsessed with bragging to their mates down the pub… the SS will still thrash most race reps in the hands of a good rider, especially on actual real roads. I use mine to commute to work year-round in all weather, and enjoy thrashing it around a track when weather is suitable - I’ve not ever owned such a flexible ride that didn’t make me feel cheated in one area or another. Cheers for the reviews, I enjoy your work.

      @@danieloconnell4225great comment. I have the 2021 SS 950S and love it. Some part of me would like to buy a V2 (mainly because it looks soo damn sexy 😎) but the SS is such good allrounder!

    • @danieloconnell4225
      @danieloconnell4225 Před 4 měsíci

      @@mwtraining4310 That's exactly it - the 950S is 'classy', but the V2 Panigale looks *exotic*. I mean it's a stunner. The problem with the Panigale is that the power curve is incredibly peaky, which means you need to rev the piss out of it to really make it move, it's hot as hell to sit on, rather uncomfortable after an hour or even less (even for fit and active people like myself), and just... well, impractical. If someone just wants a toy that looks cool or wants a bike that they will mostly take to the track, sure, the Panigale works - but the 950S is the vastly superior machine for the streets, and that's even Ducati has said in their videos for it.

    • @mwtraining4310
      @mwtraining4310 Před 4 měsíci

      @@danieloconnell4225 Also fit and flexible and its so comfy to ride for hours. I got other bikes (Bobber) thats is uncomfy after just 1h so pay big money for just a sexy looking toy isnt an option. For now anyway 😅 Too bad the V2 is so hot and revvy, the other things is doable ( raisers is an easy fix ). The SS is fast but for that price I think a extra 10-15hb had suite the look of the bike. Any upgrades available that u know about? Im thinking of a 14th teeth sprocket in front.

    Had to apologise to my Honda CBR650R on the way home for lusting after one!
    I have started saving up for one, what a machine!
    Despite a slight cocky when I noticed the bike was in Race Mode !
    And my with my shiny full license in January!
    Yes it’s quick but it’s so damn good to ride it wasn’t a handful even in race mode.
    Spent the whole time chuckling and saying what a machine to myself!
    I am now in love with a stylish Italian !
    Great review and while my BSB racer Sons attitude was nice bike but a bit slow (he has the V4S and the V4SP2 on order) I Definitely want one as my next bike!
    Josh at SMC has kindly offered me an extended test ride some time despite me not being in the market for one in the near future I am planning to meet up with my son there and go for a ride with him on a Pair of Panigale’ it’s going to be mint!

    Hey, awesome and real world honest review. I absolutely love this 'baby'. Isn't it a weird thing to call this powerful bike 'the baby Panigale' cos it's still a formidable beast in it's self. I would love to have this as a second track bike, but then again I'm greedy for bhp so it would have to be a V4 cos it's better at saving front tyre wear.

      It IS a baby. It's barely more performance than a 600cc big 4 supersport. When you ride bikes for 20+ years, you tend to be a better rider that needs a machine that pushes the boundaries further and further.

    As an American, I simply can not believe how narrow your country roads are! You're riding this 180mph superbike on roads that are so narrow, that when a car comes the other way, they have to be driving in the grass on the other side just to avoid you. What do you do when there are actually two CARS coming from opposite directions??? These "two lane" roads are the same width as most people's driveways here in the US.

    • @timrodierides
      @timrodierides  Před rokem +1
