welcome back
HELLO SIR
I’m handsome.
Welcome back
Chad's "hatred" for theater was most definitely some sort of metaphor for internalized homophobia
Oh definitely.
if i could like more than once youd get tired of me
It says a lot about how dumb I am that I thought you were talking about Chad Chad for a second
Chad was 100% in the closet the entire time
Who cares. Guys deserve ridicule.
thaboll is my fav hsm character
yeah but i liked him better in the first movie tbh :/
he literally smells like dirt? very stinky dirt?? 🤨🤨
i can't believe she stepped on thaboll
They only won the talent show cause thaboll wasn’t in it😞
idk, angies pretty hot. But her stepson thaboll...HAHAHA ....sorry I couldnt help myself, what a guy
“Chad is indisputably dancing. We’ll come back to this.”

This made me cackle! 🤣😂
ONE of the gayest things Disney has ever created? No, it is THE GAYEST thing Disney has ever created. I will NOT tolerate this disrespect to the best song in the entire franchise.

they were SO in loveee
#1: This movie is indeed iconic and is not only the best of the trilogy, but has the best music.
#2: Whoever color graded this movie discovered the saturation slider and had an absolute field day
Oh hey it's that pokemon guy. Didn't expect to see Michael here.
I didn’t expect to see you here Michael!

When your favourites interact
Oh hi grunty boi
"I Don't Dance" is about being gay, and Ryan and Chad switching clothes is also about being gay.
Then there's the scene with Gabriella and Ryan at the pool.

Gabriella, seeing Troy seeing her with another boy: "Hey....."
Ryan, gay: "Hey! :D"
kenny has said it was their goal for ryan to be gay but couldn’t make it super obvious bc “of the time” but it’s wild that even as a little girl i was like “smells fruity🤔” like even as a kid i was like “ryan def not straight🤨yeah okay🤷🏻♀️🫡”😂

Fun fact, the "Bet On It" scene was colorgraded so wildly because the weather was really bad when they were filming. That's also why it took 6 days to shoot 😅

Ryan and Chad were deprived of a love story due to disney channel’s inability to write gay characters, or at least state that they are gay so instead they just heavily hint at it
Chad and Ryan are a 100% in love with each other and are absolutely dating by the end of the movie
The thing that drives me crazy is that they made a character named Fulton when the main character's last name is Bolton. That messed with my dumb little brain. I thought I was just hearing things wrong
Yeah that was bad writing on their part. Easy to confuse the audience.
New crack ship endgame, Fulton Bolton
I actually love the color grading in this movie, it makes it feel dream-like and I much rather prefer fever dream movies than boring realistic lighting movies
it's like pushing daisies
No literally. I’ll take this over those dark ass movies that are unable to be watched during the day

Unfortunately, that is a very sharpay thing to do
Kurtis turning "and she steps on the ball" into "Angie's stepson, Thaboll" is so damn clever
Fun fact, the color grading in this movie is so wrong because all the days they had to film at the resort were cloudy! And they couldn't really have a summer movie when it's cloudy af
Oooo, u learn new things everyday.
i knew that! i think they talked about how cloudy it was in one of the behind the scenes specials. if i remember correctly they even had to use a big huge lamp as a fake sun for one shot
So that’s why it looked funky omg
Okay but it adds to the aesthetic of being a classic original disney channel movie and it being summer

That is such a missed opportunity to name them The Sharpies, and frankly, I'm disappointed.
Actually they were originally supposed to called the sharpies, but prior to his tragic death on Isla Nublar, Dennis Nedry (being close friends with one of the higher ups at Newell Brands) had concerns that it may have caused a lawsuit if they went through with it and the producers got scared
When I was the kid, the absolute trauma that "I gotta go my own way" put me through 😭😭

I was literally sobbing like I was the one being broken up with lmaooo
I can never unsee the sheer number of outtakes they had for the "skin tone compatible" lines from Sharpay that are in the credits. It makes that scene infinitely better to watch.
The switching of clothes after "I Don't Dance" is GENIUS. Because there's nothing overtly gay about seeing two people wearing outfits in one scene and then cutting to them having switched so it would have to be allowed into the script because "what's wrong about two characters wearing clothes???", BUT if you think about the implications, there is ABSOLUTELY NO HETEROSEXUAL EXPLANATION for it, and THAT is why it's GENIUS 10/10 FILM-MAKING
Fun fact about me: high school musical is the reason I didn’t pursue music!
Back when I was 11 or 12ish, I was so inspired to compose and write lyrics. I’m Iranian and music isn’t taught in schools here, so my hobby was very unique and I had no one to compare myself to. I struggled with playing by ear, and I had to try different notes over and over to get what I had in mind right. And I also was a little slow with sight reading. Now I know both of those problems are pretty common among musicians, let alone children.
So I heard about this HSM movie and I was excited, because again, I didn’t have many kids around me who were interested in music and a movie about kids doing music sounded intriguing.
Then came the parts where Troy and Gabriella take a brief look at the sheet music and start singing right away. I was DEVASTATED! I thought this is the standard on how all American kids are trained musically. I had this little dream of moving to USA to do music when I grow up( performing music by women was illegal in my country and publishing music is a very hard process, most types of music aren’t allowed either). So I thought I would never be able to compete with that, and I decided to become an architect instead.
I’m happy with my career now, and I still make music as a hobby, but it’s so funny to me how a silly decision by film makers to make a movie more visually-appealing completely changed my future!
It's a shame that you weren't able to get your dream job. I do hope you like working as an architect. It may not be as glamorous(from the point of view of a young girl, I'm not saying that is how it is in real life) as the music industry, but you still get to create works for other people to enjoy. My dad is an architect, and I think it's really cool when a building he helped design gets put up.
I’m glad you’re happy now but that story still hurts 💔
@@creatvlioness3348 the music industry is not glamorous, specially for women
@M. V. Gonzalez i think maybe it looks glamorous from the outside, obv not what really goes on
Oh noooo 😭. To think the movie discouraged u first before even your parents could 😭😭
I like how Troy is the shittiest dude ever but he's the good guy. He literally gets everything handed to him in exchange for a talent show performance and throws a hissy fit.
if the drama hinged more on he didn't want things handed to him and he felt guilty for singing with sharpay (as opposed to gabriella being jealous) it wouldve made a lot more sense that way. like gabriella dgaf because she has ryan, troy feels stressed about them drifting, and gives up what is being handed to him because of this instead of just... hissy fit...
I mean like he's white so and rich so he always gets everything he wants.
I mean sure he wasn't great to his friends but he has a whole conversation with Gabriella about how his parents are saving everything so he can go to college which is why he needs a scholarship and Gabriella and the rest of the team are mad at him for not skipping work to fuvk around with them all day
I though gabriella was being a little stupid
@@broadex9080he’s not that rich if his parents couldn’t buy him a new car / pay to get it properly fixed, or pay for college without scholarship lol
chad and ryan are 100% in love and I'm living for it
Troy being jealous of Ryan is crazy because he obviously likes his friend.
I was always so annoyed by the conflict in this movie. Troy was trying to get a scholarship to go to a good school and his friends just wanted him to goof off with them all summer. If I were Troy I would just be like "I love you guys but this is literally my future, I'm gonna need to schmooze up to these people for a few weeks so they can pull some strings for me."
What's the dumbest thing is that this could have EASILY been fixed in the script if Troy started acting like he was above his friends/not like himself thanks to the influence of the snooty rich people, but nope, he's literally the same nice guy throughout the movie. Btw, I know there are a couple of scenes where they KINDA tried to get that across, but it more comes across as misunderstandings. They should've committed.
Not to mention, Troy is the reason why they have a job in the 1st place. And when they all tried to break him and Gabriella up, they both forgive them, but now they can't forgive him for wanting to better his future? They are so ungrateful
That's not true actually, sometimes, yes the writing was relying on us just believing the characters but he was a dick at times.
Bruh they pulled the same bullsh*t In The first movie just cause he wanted to sing and act
I'm starting to think they aren't really friends in the first place

The “and she stepped on the ball” line originated in Auntie Mame starring Rosiland Russell. A super wealthy and snobby girl tells a story that ends with that line and the only people who laugh are the other stuck up rich folks. The cool rich folks do not laugh because it’s not funny. So filmmakers have used that line to show what type rich person you are watching.

I laughed so loud when Jarvis said "Dude I want somebody looked at me the way Chad looks at Ryan" that I scared my cat off the bed. Something about the cut to Ryan broke me
This was literally the most 🏳️🌈 movie in the entire trilogy.
As a teacher, the phenomenon of students deciding they suddenly don’t want to leave because now they’re not supposed to be there is REAL
When I was a kid my best friends mom was a janitor at the highschool. If she needed to be there after hours for whatever reason she would sometimes let us in too and we were obsessed. Despite having just been there like 3 or 4 hours ago.
Its all that teenage rebellion in us that wants to try all the taboos.
If even during school hours, school was just a place we got to hang out with our friends without any work, i would totally not want to leave then too
Kids love school just not the part that makes it school lol.
yes the way my students loiter in my office after the day is over....... pls leave i wanna go home.........
It's great to see the love for Ryan and Chad. As of late I've again been OBSESSED with these two, even so much more than I ever was before. Years ago I already liked these two characters together, but now I've taken it to a whole new level. Like, the "I went and actually wrote a fanfic about them" level. Just a couple days back I spent most of the day either just listening to the song in the background while I did other things, or just repeatedly watching the movie clip and analyzing the hell out of it for my own amusement. Chad and Ryan? They deserve all the love and appreciation they can get. And I'll forever be shoveling it all over them.
i had a literal PREMIERE party for this movie. my mom bought a people magazine with a preview and we got red fabric from michaels and made a red carpet out of my walkway and poured blue gatorade into plastic margarita glasses so it looked like the drinks sharpay has by the pool and all of my friends came over in red and white outfits to wat h it hahaha
That sounds like an absolute blast. I wasn't old enough when this movie came out to casually have parties at my house, so I envy this hardcore lol.
to be fair i was in third grade HAHAHA my mom just loved to throw little parties like that when we were younger

I watched the HSM movies for the first time later in life because I was never interested when they were first coming out. They’re goofy little romps that are actually highly enjoyable. For what it is, it’s a surprisingly solid trilogy.
I'm in the same boat, I'm not into the whole musical thing but to me these movies represent a simpler time where life was just about friendship and where your biggest worry was whether your marks on a test would be good enough or something. All the lenses I watch other movies through, plot inconsistencies and all kinds of criticism I usually have just go out of the window with this movie because it doesn't matter, if anything the fact hsm doesn't pay attention to those details reinforces the feeling of a simpler time

One of my favorite comments made about HS musical 2 and 3 is that the biggest plot inconsistency is that Troy is scraping and stressing for scholarships, meanwhile his family is clearly LOADED. He's basically sitting in a mansion wondering, "how in earth will I afford my education??"

The “and she stepped on the ball” could be a reference to the movie (and later, musical) Auntie Mame where the stuffy rich people try to tell a story about something “horrible” that happened to them, but it was just a dumb ping pong game and someone dropped and later, stepped on the ping pong ball. Doubt anyone was thinking of that, but that’s what I think of, lmao.
turning "and she steps on the ball" into "angie's stepson, thaboll" is actual comedic genius, good job kurtis
Replace the father with a sentient basketball, and the whole story is about a human trying to live up to the expectations of his basketball father, and the difficulties of relating to a basketball as a human teenager.

"And she steps on the ball" is a reference to the movie Trading Places. It's the ending to an unheard story in that movie, too. But it's supposed to highlight the vapid type of stuff that rich people find interesting.
ETA I recently learned from another comment that it actually goes back further to Aunty Mame!
It's the rich folk joke version of the Wilhelm scream.
I was in college when these movies came out so they weren’t on my radar other than “those things my nieces are obsessed with.”
But years later when my kid was about 5 they were still playing them like crazy on Disney Channel (especially around the time Teen Beach movie came out, I think).
Suddenly my kid was hooked. He recorded them all on the DVR, watched them on repeat, and memorized the dances.
I still know most of the songs from the first two movies because he watched it so often.
I might have nightmares tonight about washing dishes to “we’re all in this together” on repeat.
We can make fun of Kelsey's abilities all we want but there's a person exactly like her barely making every high school production function by pure miracle
Yes, as the person who with only TWO other (extremely talented) students we wrote from scratch the music for our school play and only got our names in the program, I feel for Kelsey
In case anyone was dying to know, "She stepped on the ball" is a reference to a scene in Auntie Mame. It's intentionally unfunny, and they're talking about ping pong.
Wow, it's a reference?? I always thought Daddy Evans was just telling an anecdote about his wife or something. In fact I feel like I remember another scene where he's telling the same story, and we hear the same line, and as everyone is laughing Mrs. Evans goes "I did not!!"
I always immediately think of the Trading Places callback, which is another cultural anchor for this line. Thanks for this!
@@elsie8757 Yeah in the original a very insufferable rich girl is telling a long boring story about ping pong, and you're dying for some kind of punchline just to make it worth your time. The anti-climax makes it hilarious.
The message in HSM is basically just "this guy sucks"
Auntie Mame created a short hand for pretentious rich people with that line. That's why it also shows up in Trading Places and this movie. If someone creates douchey rich characters in their story, there's a decent chance they'll say that line.

Every time I see a video on this movie, I have another fit over how _weird_ it is that Troy gave Garbiella a necklace with his initial on it. He could have given her something representing herself, or a shared memory, but nah. He gives her a necklace representing himself.
It really feels like her only contribution to the story is being "Troy's girlfriend."

I think Bambi is simply one of the rare occasions we see and know the mom is present at the beginning, while oftentimes other Disney moms just barely or never existed since the beginning of the story being told.

My boyfriends name starts with a T, and his mom got me a cute necklace with a T on it and she said if we ever break up it can just be a cross☠️what is she tryna say
@@bethanylamastus15 I once worked with a girl that flirted with me quite a bit and even asked me out once. For a long time I wasn’t sure what she saw in me.
Then I remembered her ex was called Johnny and my name is John. So maybe she had a bunch of stuff with his name on it, and was looking for someone with a similar name so that she could still use it.

That's actually pretty nice.
technically the term "imported" means it was brought in from another country, implying that either the south won the civil war in the HSMCU or there was another second civil war with new mexico and maine on opposing sides
Me at 8 with my “Bet On It” Disney yoga pants (it was on the butt) singing this song on the top of my itty bitty lungs while improvising dance moves during my elementary talent show will forever cement Bet On It as the best song of my LIFE.
I really had to comment twice.
The line about Gabriella asking her mom to pick her up after she sing-dumps Troy absolutely slayed me.
oh my god, I said "gold" then you said it WASN'T gold and I finally realized we were blessed with a main channel video
lol omg i did the same
Tbh a lot of people really do unironically just love this movie. The second movie was the best one by far
Undoubtedly the best movie in the trilogy. Shit slaps so hard
Edit: I will also add that the color grading being so intense was and still is really appealing to me…idk why lol
I love it too because it looks the way a dreamy summer feels ❤
Chad: "I don't dance"
Also Chad: *dances aggressively during Work This Out*
I'm glad there's still people out there passionate about HSM cuz god knows how obsessed with it I was when it came out. HSM 2 is definitely the best one, it has the best songs by far. Also how the fuck does Kurtis come up with that stuff it's honestly so impressive and hilarious. Also I love the new merch but for some reason every time I look at it I just see Winnie the Pooh lmao
I was literally just thinking about how it looks like Pooh’s lil crop top!
BRUH i was just thinking that halfway thru when he put up his arms 💀 At first it was fine and then BAM! Winnie the Pooh throws his hands up.
27:20 I saw a tiktok on Kenny telling him not to pop up after the jump so to help he was told to pick up sand
"I want to wear his initial on a chain roun my neck, not because he owns me but 'cause he really lovs me" taylor swift loves hsm CONFIRMED
“After the song, Chad and Ryan have switched clothes. What does that MEAN?!”
Well, Jarvis, when two gay men love each other very much…
honestly the music alone in this movie is worthy of all of the awards. Fabulous, What Time Is It?, I Don’t Dance, etc. this entire soundtrack is a complete bop
Bet on it!
I don’t dance deserved all the awards
The ”stepped on the ball” joke is a reference to a movie from the 50’s movie called Auntie Mame
