I think I just witnessed a mating flight. I thought it was a swarm out of a tree but they went back to the tree. 😊
Sweet!!!
I still am amazed at how calm you are being surrounded by so many bees at one time! This could never be my hobby- I would get too anxious! Thanks for doing the hard work for us so we can enjoy the spoils through your dee-lish honey! ;) Great one bro!
🤣 I get anxious too, when things aren't going right and the bees are getting testy! Can't wait to harvest this year!
Nice beehive, great upload. Thank you for sharing. Watch those stingers 😊
What's a day without getting stung 🤣.
Fascinating. I don't know how you keep track of the queen when they're swarming. As soon as the arrow disappeared, I lost sight of her 😅 Neat trick with the trash can lid! I always learn a lot when you post these videos.
Sometimes I feel lucky to find the queen during hive inspections! Atleast then, I know she's going to be in the brood area, and not where honey and pollen stores are!
So the queen that flew off...was that the old one..going off to die someplace? Wow,,,thank God for people like you that will do this...wow...
Being as small as she was (and FAST), that was likely a new queen. I hadn't been able to find the old queen for a week or so, so I assume she was dying. I could tell she was getting old by the placement of queen cells in the hive. Supercedure cells are on the sides of the comb with other eggs, while swarm cells hang from the bottom.
With a supcedure, the old queen dies and new one stays. With a swarm, the old queen leaves with half the bees and finds a new home, while the new queen stays with the other half of bees that stayed.
@@Smokeybeesnatural WOW...how long have you been doing this??
9 years, and sometimes I still feel like a newbie 🤣. I like to experiment and see what happens. I tend to let them do what nature calls for. This year I'm trying to refrain from harvesting honey prematurely in the summer and let them have it all. This keeps me from feeding sugar syrup in late summer when they're out of food. Hopefully this will keep the strong going into fall and winter. I'll harvest late October when I know they have plenty for winter.
@@Smokeybeesnatural Have you done the "specialized crops"? Some do clover, some do cannabis.... 🤪
