I just started my second week out with my trainer. We're hauling Sprinter vans. The manual is taking some getting used to but I'm starting to get the hang of it. Hopefully before too long, this guy will start teaching me to float gears. But for now, it's just sharpening my basics and building up my stamina for long drives.
I feel like parking (i.e. maneuvering your trailer in reverse) would be the hardest part of trucking, what are your thoughts?
@@gincream1993 not for me. The hardest part has been this manual trans. I know it takes time to get good it at but I feel like I'm gonna destroy this gearbox before I get it right, some days.

for future reference, please hook the chain hook to the back of the forklift where there's a spot to put the hook on the pin because that can bend it and reverse isn't meant for towing

Legit question what’s the best way at this moment to get your cdl? Make a company for it? Out of your pocket? Or ask for school loan and get cdl?
This is gonna be a bit long so please bear with me. I'm new so take this with a grain of salt but I chose to pay out of pocket for my schooling. If you have the money, I think this is the way to go. Even paying for it yourself, companies will offer tuition reimbursement. But if you have a company pay for it, you're stuck with them for a year. I couldn't stomach the idea of being stuck at a job for a year and finding out I hated that company. But if you're strapped for cash and you can tolerate a potentially less than ideal company then having someone like Werner (they have Roadmaster in OKC where I live) pay for it might not be a bad option. You also need to decide whether or not you want to drive stick or auto. Some schools don't offer stick shift any more. If you want to drive a manual, you have to take your road test in a manual truck. If you test in an auto, you'll have an auto only restriction on your CDL. And as of 2/7/22, you HAVE TO go to a CDL school. DOT requires a 160 hour training course.

Most state allow u to get a CDL at the age of 18 so yes it’s possible
Yes you could get your cdl but you can't go interstate only Intrastate. It'll be harder to find a job but I'm sure you could do it
