NOT KEEPING TURTLES. Hey everyone, thanks for all the kind words and advice I've received after posting this video. Because I get a lot of comments because I chose to include shots of a baby turtle that just appeared one day (that I removed and put in the creek out back), I decided to try to pin this up top to let you know that i understand about turtle care and have no intention of keep them in this pond. If they were to get out and go over to the pool, they would die...and I don't want to put up barrier arounds the pond to keep them in. Surprisingly...the larger turtles can pull themselves out of the pond using the edge because I keep it filled close to the top. Anyway, thanks for caring about the well-being of turtles! I'll make sure I stay vigilant and keep them out.
Creative Fish Studio I used to keep my water level up high, but it resulted in a couple of suicides as the koi accidentally banked themselves. Now I keep it 10 cm below the edge and it's working well
I LIKE THE MODERN LOOK !!!
Also I breed raise and sell only standard fin koi ( because like you I dont like butterfly fin koi as much) if you are interested let me know here and we can work it out.
Nicely done.
Although I was hoping you'd show the plumbing as well.
The turtle will keep coming back-you have easy dinner. If it was a red-eared slider, they are threatened in the wild. It is incredibly awesome you attracted one. They shouldn't bug your big fish.👍
Sorry to be so offtopic but does someone know a method to log back into an instagram account??
I was stupid lost my password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me!
How did I end up here and why do I want a pond now
you my friend, have experienced the world of youtube.
get your shovel out!!
I normally don't care for modern styled ponds but that's just gorgeous. You did a phenomenal job, absolutely beautiful and stunning!
Thanks Bigfoot! Please don't lurk in my woods and eat my fish ;)
So this is what youve been up to. The pond looks good, very modern look, even better that its DIY. Cant wait for your 40g reef tank update.
Thanks! It's been a year since I started the 40g reef. For the most part everything is the same....it's had some ups and downs, but it is still going. The main thing to take a hit was my corals. I'm just getting back from traveling and already am leaving for another trip. I'll try to do an update on it when I get back.
I'm actually kinda jealous of your pond, lol
+Duc Tran I'm jealous of it too. It gets to sun itself in my backyard all day while I have to go to work. 😂
Pro tip, you really need some shrimp and algae eaters for open sun water but especially shrimp to tend the plants and help them grow as well as eating dead fish that you don't catch.
Faye Hyuga no you don’t
what type of shrimp though all the shrimp that are in my area are either tiny or are salt water
Just some info from my years of having my pond. If your pond is 2000 gal you really want a pump and filter that are almost double that. It will give you way clearer water and keep the water moving. Also, I used to make the mistake of turning one pump off and on but that is the main oxygenator you have so unless you put a hose into your return line which will suck in air and oxygenate your pond (Pong guru show what I mean in one of his videos) and with plants in the pond, don't turn it off especially at night or you may come out to dead fish. Looks sleek! Congrats!
Thanks Lira! I always have the waterfall running.
Creative Fish Studio Last year here in London we had a hot spell with temperatures up to 33C and a lot of people lost their Koi. We lost the biggest one we had (60cm-ish). Air stone is the way to go.
I added a water fall with a 10 foot deep cistern and let the cool water. circulate out of the cistern down the rocks. It cools the water, aerates it and adds volume to my existing pond. it was a monumental job!! lol
That's beautiful--love the sleek modern look. Great job.
Beautiful!! Plants really keep the water clear and clean. I use only plants, no chemicals or treatments necessary. Water lettuce is really pretty. The water always tests perfect, which equals healthy fish. Enjoy!!!!
That's excellent Linda!
Well, plants and cleaning the filter a lot!
lol I read that as “the water always tastes perfect” I was concerned for a second
Absolutely stunning pond setup. I love how you incorporated everything else in your back yard with it. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Your backyard is beautiful
Nicely done sir, well done indeed
So I'm using cinder blocks for the walls, then you put the pavers on top, use felt to protect the liner from the concrete. Part of the reason is hydrostatic pressure. It's a detention pond for drainage that retains water at a certain height, then floods and drains into and open well. It's cool to see the squared off look I was wanting to do. Cool job!
What a back yard! Beautiful!
This is so awesome!
Thanks so much for sharing the process. The finished product is beautiful. (The all in cost is unbelievable!!!) Thanks so much for sharing! I don't think I would every leave the house! Love it!
it's adorable how the fish follow you when you walk around. also beautiful pond! your fishies seem happy :)
What a great job!!!
That’s perfect work on a challenging project!!
Stunning pond and stunning fish! This is fantastic!
I love this build. I’m heading to buy some border pavers because I’m going for a clean modern look. Thanks for the tips.
Looks awesome!!!! I like the flat stone, nice clean, modern look..
Very nice job. I would highly recommend a bog system for filtration. They're simple and inexpensive. You can do it the same way you built your pond. Way more efficient and effective. Twice a year back flush the pvc pipes and that's it. Your setup is perfect for it. Make it slightly elevated so you have your desired waterfall height and overhang. Fill it with bulbs like tiger lilies, elephant ears, caladiums and at the edges of the bog where it meets your trim stone plant creeping jenny so it cascades over. It only has to be 12 inches deep, mine is deeper about 30 inches. I had the room. Crystal clear water with less hassle and cost.
I get several turtles a year in my pond. The bigger ones eat the smaller comets. They stay about 3 days on average and move on. I used to have a racoon that showed up around dawn and would sit in the pond waiting for a gold fish to get close. He was good for a couple of fish a week.
I was moving in that direction. I had plans to double the length of the pond toward the fire pit and build a bog on the other side of the fence to spill into it. However, we ended up selling the house to move to Michigan.
@@hooktherapy I'm in northern Minnesota so pond heaters
You're really well read on your hobby but just incase you haven't had to before when you winterize your pond in cold climates here's a few pointers that will save money and fish.
Stop feeding them when the water temperature is 40F degrees and colder. They will hibernate. Only comets and koi will survive temps below 60F. Shubunkins will most likely die in 50F water.
Use at least 2 got aeration outputs to keep oxygen in the water. I used 2 pond heaters ($39 a piece to prevent it from icing over. All hoses that drive water should under water completely. So they don't rupture.
Enjoy Michigan
This looks so amazing I love it 🤗🤗🤗
+PsychedelicBabe thanks! I'm out of town again and can't wait to get back and enjoy it.
this is pretty amazing!!
Thanks! We still love it after 6 months
I was suddenly given this video and I am glad because you did a great job.
The pond is looking great.
Nice job! Beautifully done!
Beautiful pond love the work❤
Thanks for sharing your video is a inspiration to my project, love your explanations 🙏
Top job mate. I really like your design and setup. I recently did something similar here in Australia and had a few algae bloom issues as my pond is also in direct sunlight. I fixed it with a great natural solution. A mate of mine suggested I do a bog filter. And wow, the pond is 100% crystal clear and I have a great selection of water plants right next to it that are feed by the fish poop and Algae. So if you want to try a bog filter (easy to do after you have already put in a pond) I highly recommend it. Its basically a natural filter and there are a few good youtube DIY clips if you do a search. Anyhow, hope your pond is still going well and thanks again for the upload. Cheers CC123
I absolutely loved this pound and your transparency about the cost.
New Subscriber 👍
Thanks! We love it. I’ve upgraded the filter to a larger one, but I overall it’s stayed pretty much the same. Doing really well now.
Looks beautiful..great job
Love this pond y'all did great
+Laura Jackson Strickland thanks Laura! We sure do love how it turned out. My wife wasn't so sure about my plans for a pond, but she likes it now that it is finished.
I bet si I would too
I like the modern look. The flat stones are really nice and even.
Thanks! Getting those stones to be even was the hardest part to figure out. Once I came up with a plan, it was actually pretty easy
What a beautiful yard. Inspiring for my own
+Bailey Boehm Thank you! I enjoy working on the yard.
Pretty awesome. My mom is wanting to do a koi/goldfish in the future and we willl be using this as our blue print. Pretty Awesome
Very cool! She's going to love having a pond
xweetok265 does she know anything about fish or the nitrogen cycle?
I do. imma do it for her and maintain it. I have a few fish tanks of mine
I love this!!!! 😍
Awesome! Great job! Looks very clean.
Thanks! Modern wasn't my first choice, but as I looked at the area I was going to put it...it just made sense to keep it clean and work with the lines of the surrounding cement.
Good idea, thanks for your sharing with this video
I have a 5X6 next to me 1/4 corner gazebo. The deepest is 18" so I'm limited to smaller fishies. Me and my husband are thinking of expanding the pond to hug the entire gazebo. Accessing the gazebo with a bridge or something... Large plans for the future!
Great video, awesome job, LOVE your backyard!
Thanks Nadi! The two new koi have been hiding since I put them in the other day.
Fish seem happy!
excellent, great idea for me to build my koi pond ,
Great job
This is a great pond ! I hope you post more videos updating this ! Totally subscribing!
+bailey haubenreiser thanks for the sub! More videos coming
Not going to lie that would make a nice hot tub or jacuzzi especially with the view behind it you could make a mini infinite pool/hot tub
Beautiful pond!
wow $1300 ,You have just inspired me ,GREAT JOB
Nicely done!
Nice pond..the fish look happy...mine will have mostly gold fish in the beginning. .then i will add koi if all goes well.
So awesome man!
Ive been waiting for this. I have followed all the progression on Instagram
Awesome! I had a lot of work travel around after I started on the project, so it took a while to finalize it all. Still need to put the finishing touches on it
Well done, very nice. Thinking about doing something similar, but part dug, part half walls. Getting all the construction stuff from a very long ago abandoned building site, free is always the best.
USD 8 for that nice koi is a steal !
Great job there,
Wow amazing pond
Thanks! We love it
Dude this came out sweet. Nice Job.
Glad you like it! We still really enjoy it
Looks great, really impressive
+Michael Trinh thanks! We really enjoy it.
Beautiful
Thanks! I am really happy with how it turned out.
+Creative Fish Studio I wish I could do that but my parents will not let me :/
thats awesome bro!
Very cool pond!
Thanks man! We are really enjoying it. It's a wonderful feature to have in a yard. Funny how we tend to gather around it
Nice rock additions. Flat looks good. Most DIY looks like it is DIY design
The pond looks great :)

Thats a dream pond if you ask me ! Great work
Thank! It has been a dream of mine to build one after we bought the house, but there wasn't a good spot for it. During recent renovations, the perfect spot opened up. My wife was kind enough to let the new patio stop short of where the deck used to go...which allowed me to put the pond there.
I live in a house too and I have recently spoke to my dad about making a small pond in the garden. He might consider doing it with me along, but it does not look easy at all. My biggest concern is the water system and keeping the young Kois away from my 5 cats .
Hi Tony.. wow.. this is incredible!! What a beautiful sanctuary! Really outstanding work Tony. Have a wonderful summer enjoying all your hard work!! =D
Thanks Deb! It's been very rewarding to sit and enjoy the hard work that was put in to build it. It took a little while to figure out how I was going to set the stones at the edge, but so far the cement seems to have been the right way to go.
I can't imagine how hard and long it took you to dig it.. unless you used a bobcat. That's what I would have done. I love the design but that's for forte!! It's elegant and very esthetically pleasing. I'm sure the fish think they are in heaven too. =D
great pond you should be proud of it
It, s beautiful
This is amazing
thanks. we love it
Nice job mate
Cheers from Winnipeg! Great set up man!
Thanks Bryden. Definitely didn't think everything through while making this and learned a lot. Overall, I'm still super happy with it. Bigger filter has made maintenance so much easier.
koi is my fav fish
those are not koi. thee knock offs I know been into ponds for a longgg time
looks awesome!!
Thank you. Really enjoying it now that it isn't so hot outside
Nice job
Nice amazing how filling in pond holes with water make them look so much smaller. Awesome video. Later
Crazy how much smaller it felt when we added water
Really nice
wow, good job bro, beautiful koi pond
Thanks! I'm loving it!
You're welcome, how many gallons is your koi pond?
Based on my calculations, it is close to 2,000 gallons.
Love the pond. The pool too.😊
I have just recorded my pond and put it on YT?
I recorded it on my phone under in the water to see what it is like.
very nice pond.i like it.
Father and son project I love it
I really wish I saw this before building my new pond.....
Mmmm look amazing
My dream is to do this with local game fish ...
Try to put in a nice little viewing deck below ground level into the water port hole style ....
Maybe even do a little barbless fishing on the weekends ...
Belíssimo tanque, Parabéns!!!
Nice work
Looks great!! love c3po's name 😉😆
+Kibbles N Bits thanks! I thought it was clever too when they told me what they called it
Very nice!
You should put a double seat swing thing next to the koi pond! I would sit there all day reading a book 😍
that's not a bad idea
I always get a kick out of people who take the initiative to do it themselves.
Love this
Those goldfish are going to get big!
+Familliar Nori yes. They can get quite large
that pond is sexy as hell!
Catch Em All Fishing ayeeeeeee
Catch Em All Fishing yayyeett
Catch Em All Fishing love your videos
Catch Em All Fishing make pond like that for your gold fish and koi fish live yahh videos

It looks really nice. I like the modern clean look of it. I kind want you to put the same tiles around your pool and match the pool and pond. I’ve watched about 100 pond videos and every time I wanted them to have not used a black pond liner for their swimming pond but for the first time I wish the pool was dark, a gray stone or something. Probably won’t do all that but it would look really elegant, like you had a koi pond and a swimming pod.
If you’re pool is plastic liner it’s totally doable. I’d put dark liner and do a stone cap in an L to go over the ledge. It would look legit
Aww cute turtle 😊
u should put some inverted aquariums so the fish can go up and look at the view lol
boomboompow I still might. Just don't want to keep it clean right now.
Nice! 😍
Thank you all for the interest you've show in my pond. For more information on the build, check out the article I wrote for HomeTalk.com: bit.ly/DIYkoipond
Creative Fish Studio is this liner available in Philippines?
I would think so..or a variation of it.
well done bro
Great job and setup! I see you have a pretty clear pool too... what I use to clarify my pond's water is the Ph- for the pool. It kill algue instantly and the fish will suck the rocks clean., and best of it it is not armful to the fish. I also like very much your water drain setup... very clever
Thanks! So far everything is going great with it. The UV Filter actually clears the water up really well...especially considering it is in the direct sun about 6 hours. Does the PH- mess with your water chemistry or does it bring the PH back to where it needs to be?
I did not know that you had a UV filter, which is great specially with 6 hour of sun. You can use the same water analyser kit that you use for the pool to fix your ph, knowing that the rain is more alkalyne that it use to be... I spry the area taht have algae groth with the PH- as needed and as I do I can see the algae breakup, specially the green filamented one, and they float to the surface and the fish rush in to suck the are. It does not affect the water chemistry except lower the ph. Mind you I use just what is needed to treat spot areas. Have a goos summer enjoying the pond.
Nice
The birds are gona believe that’s a crane for a second 😂 but beautiful pond
Nice!
I totally saving money just to make this it relaxing i wonder if you can sit inside of the Lake with the koi that would be very nice.I love nature this would be perfect for me.😁☺
cool diy
Very nice job! How's it looking these days? It's always something to see after a few years how these ponds evolve. I find a lot of people give up on them tho. Please tell me you still have it???
Still have it and love it. I've changed the filter to a larger one because the original was way too small. We not have nice clear water.
