    Welcome to Marks Mini Cooper S Mk3 built in 1970 and registered in 1971. This Cooper S was last restored in 1997 and featured in Mini World magazine. Unfortunately 23 years down the line and it's looking tired in some areas so Mark has decided to take it off the road for a full restoration which will involve stripping it back to a bare shell, sandblasting, and a respray. Fortunately, the engine has already been restored recently by Swiftune engineering

    Hi Mark, Paint the blues towing eye in Black, maybe. Best of luck

      Hello Luc, didn't think of that option. They are anodised so not sure how the rattle can paint will adhere.🙂

    Option A - black cleaned up. Oh no! What now? If it makes you feel better I think we all have days like that. I’ve finally fitted my wiper motor (with the no12 1” screws you recommend - I’d previously put it on hold for about 6 months because instead of “I’ll just fit the wiper motor” I had 3 hours of hell, nearly fitting the wiper motor before throwing my toys out of the pram and giving up… and dreading it for 6 months! To my huge relief it fitted easily with the longer screws - the sad thing is, that it bugs me that they’re not the size specified 🤦‍♂️ there’s something wrong with me 🤣…. On to the next problem… these nightmares will be anecdotes in no time.

      You'll have to wait and see 😉 Honestly, it seems like one step forward, 3 steps back every time i do something! 🤦‍♂ I'm glad it worked for you too. I hear you on the correct screw size but it can't be exactly to factory all of the time. 😅

    I hate to think what those boxes of goodies cost you Mark.. Towing eye preference. I'd say recon the original as it looks period correct. Your closing shot was very reminiscent of the days when I used to rebuild/recon Mini's 😅.. I sometimes wonder how the hell I did it all without having to attend anger management therapy 😂..

      Hello Pete, well i wouldn't like to say in case Lucy sees so about £10 😉😆 Looking like most peoples option with A. There is always something to go wrong! Therapy isn't out of the question 🤣

    Either clean up the towing eye and respray (Option A) or maybe get the Smiffy's Bits stainless version (Option D?)

      I didn't know that Smiffy bits did a SS one. i will look into that. 🙂

    Go with the blue one. I have an Innocenti grill which was on the car when I bought it. I put a Cooper grill on when I finished rebuilding 2 years ago. I fancy a change back to the black grill. However, the horizontal plastic chrome trim is not very good. Would the window finisher strip fit, I wonder?

    • @markdraper7
      @markdraper7 Před 2 měsíci

      Are you talking about the chrome trim at the bottom of the grill surround? I'm sure you can buy this.

      Hi Glenn, I'm seriously considering this option along with the bumpers and grille. Where did you get yours done and was it reasonable?🙂

    I don't think I would put a towing eye on at all. Were they fitted as standard? Just chuck it in the jack bag and screw in if needed

    • @markdraper7
      @markdraper7 Před 2 měsíci

      I'd had a Track day in it so fitted it, then it was handy when i kept having breakdowns in it. That's a good option though!

    Stick with the original towing eye and repaint it
