      When you're done mowing the lawn, you can use the batteries to run your Greenworks 80v trimmer, 80v chainsaw, 80v push mower, 80v blower... not just the mower eh?
      For someone with 2-4 acres, this machine would work just dandy.

      Yes they like climate controlled environment. Bring them inside in the hot summer months and the cold winter months. Wait for them to cool before placing them on charge and remove them when they are fully charged and they will last for years. They cost too much to not treat them right.

    I was surprised by the battery life. Did my 1.5 acre yard, and my neighbors similar sized yard, one hour of run time, and still had 58% power. At that rate it should run for 2 hours. That’s on high power mode too.

    This looks really cool compared to your regular gasoline rideable lawn mower! Not looking into getting one of these (my yard is decently big where this could work in most areas but some areas would be too small for this). I agree about the battery system on this with all 6 on the mower, some kind of 120 volt plug (from an extension cord) for charging all six overnight or for a few hours would be a great improvement to this lawnmower since your using so many battery packs (using the 80 volt batteries of course is a great idea because I own many other tools with this that are 80 volt already). Another improvement for monitoring the battery charge on all since is a battery charge light diagram on the side of the mower (not below the seat) of showing where the power charge is on all six batteries while your running the lawnmower or stopping and checking the diagram to see the battery charge all at once. Since I assume this is the first generation of this kind of mower, we'll hopefully see more improvements to the battery charging system, such as adding solar panels to it or a 120 volt plug for charging it, or maybe a similar plug in charge system that Electric Cars use would be great improvements to the machine to charge the 80 volt batteries.

    The removable batteries would be a positive for me I think, could store the mower in an outdoor shed during winter, but keep batteries nice and warm(er)in garage. Deal breaker for me as much as I like the Greenworks riding mowers is that it’s just too expensive for a made in China product, and with virtually no domestic support once you buy it. Greenworks also tells me their 80v stuff won’t cross work with Kobalt 80v stuff, which they make!

    Nice video, but your negativity for the mower was front and center. The reviews below, many of whom don't actually own this mower echoed the things you don't like. That doesn't really help. Yes, all new first gen products have glitches, but this is the highest rated electric riding / ZT mower on the market, and I've had mine for an entire season, cutting an acre weekly, and I'll tell you, this is a great product. Quiet, fun to drive, great speed and no filters, gas, gas refills and spillage, gas smells, exhaust in your face, and it doesn't need engine and belt maintenance. I think those items should have been talked about far more than all these reviews about how charging the batteries is a game changer. That is nothing compared to the noisy, smelly, high maintenance and breakdown rate of a gas mower (forget about the fact that this doesn't pollute while your cutting too).. Thanks for your review and a forum to express my opinion.

    Was at a greenworks dealer today looking at this machine and the quality of it looks much higher than the ego and the ryobi but the having to remove the batteries to charge them is an absolute dealbreaker for me, even at the $3,999 that it’s now down to. I would be willing to bet that an on board charging model is coming in the near future being that this fairly new model has dropped $1,500 bucks in the last two months and that the number 1 complaint is the lack of on board charging. I asked the dealer if that was going to happen and he acted like he didn’t want to talk about it and quickly changed the subject. Hard to believe greenworks didn’t foresee this being an issue.

    • @jasonfournier
      @jasonfournier Před rokem +1

      Hasn't been an issue for me. I have the 60V version and it will run easily 2 hours for me. Not sure how he only gets 35 minutes. Maybe how tall his grass was is the issue. I only need 30 minutes to do my lawn and charge it after every third cut. They give you 3 dual chargers and they will charge you up in an hour. Quicker than just plugging it in because you actually need to put the chargers on two different circuits since they pull more 15A. A single plug-in would be limited to 15A.

    • @08c6vette
      @08c6vette Před rokem +3

      @@jasonfournier it’s not about run time or how fast the individual batteries charge for me, it’s simply about not wanting to have to take them out of the machine to do it every time, regardless of how fast they charge on the dual chargers and then have to reinstall them. Much rather be able to just pull the mower into the garage and stick one charging plug in the side of it and be done with it like every other battery powered mower available, whether it has removable batteries or not. I know it sounds trivial but if I’m spending thousands of dollars on a battery powered mower, I’m going to have onboard charging even if I have to spend more to get it. If the Greenworks had that feature there would be one in my garage right now, hard to believe they didn’t foresee it being an issue and I can guarantee you they’re going to rectify it with an onboard charging model.

I'm also seeing these online for 5499.99 not 4500. How much slope do you have in the yard by your cabin that you mention where the mower slips? Really appreciate determining the right fit. I don't know what to make of the brand. I cut a friends yard for them while they were on vacation 3x w/ a cheap green works mower (40 v) and it was just soso. The mower defiantly felt really cheap and bogged down when the grass was a bit high and thick. Then again it was a cheap 40v model so not comparable to 80v units at all. However it made me question the brand. Just like I have the first series of Echo 58 volt tools. I bought them for my dad she's he's older and had a hard time starting the trimmer. The power on them is fantastic but I've had the typical echo battery issues. I'm still all for battery operated equipment but not sure what brand to use...

      So, the echo 58-volt was made by TTI. Same company who make milwaukee, Ridgid and Ryobi. If you used a cheap ryobi drill, knowing TTI made it, would you buy milwaukee?

      @jamesbubnick Před rokem

      @@WorkshopAddict I knew it was by TTI and that's why the battery issues surprised me. I also talked to a dealer and they said they have seen lots of batteries come into their shop. My guess is that's why echo changed to the updated battery design but it's only a guess...My drills are the 12v dewalt and I absolutely love them. I'd buy a Milwaukee in a heartbeat(all the mechanics tools at my last company were 12v Milwaukee). I don't have anything ryobi but I've had a good 10 or so of their pressure washers and they were ok, standard for the price point. In the end it seems most products go back to a few mfg's for the same components.
      I'd really like to try out some of the toro 80v equipment and eGO but I haven't yet had the chance.

    I am an electrical field service engineer, let me tell you that that 95% of the complexity in the electronics of the fancier ones is already here and all a bigger screen does is display more info and use negligably more battery. The things id be more concerned about are the feedback sensors from each of the control arms that tell the computer what youre commanding for each motor. Those will have the same issues as joysticks on controllers over time, like drift as the sensor wears out. Also your lack of maintenance is great until one of the blades stop spinning and you think its a motor, but actually a solder joint on the main board broke so now theres no communication to the blades motor controller, and even replacing the motor wont fix it and unless you know soldering your unit is toast.
    And with ALL that said id take an electric over a gas any day because the regular maintenance and/or expected failures of a gas unit still vastly out pace battery electric

    I think these battery zero turns are neat, but, I mean... Range and size they can mow over time with battery degradation and such. Uhh why are you not just push mowing at that point for your little 20x30 yard. haha
    And these e-companies for mow stuff are pushing them super hard with sponsor stuff, or influencers.
    And... I just dont see the appeal of an electric powered mower unless you have a tiny yard and dont wanna deal with gas/oil to spend 5 minutes mowing your little green grass out front.
    Love seeing people show up at work parties to do things with their "electric weed trimmers" and you just know you're going to be doing 90% of the work, cause their trimmer lasts about 10-15 mins and they done and there 4 hours of trimming to be done.
