Reliability is going to be the main selling point when I buy one next summer. As a guy in a wheelchair, the Greenworks seems to be the only option because there is no foot operation. (It's why I chose my Toro Timecutter in 2011.) A huge knock against the Greenworks is the lack of plug-in recharging port. What the hell were they thinking of not including one? It seems like a total no-brainer. I agree with you about the batteries setup on the EGO. I hate how the battery storage area sticks out so much from the back end. If Greenworks could store their batteries under the seat, why couldn't EGO? A new lawn mower company could sell a ton of EV Zero turn mowers if they managed to eliminate these two flaws, and paint the mower in a more flattering colour like red, white, and black like on my Toro.

I love your comparison. You hit many of the same pros/cons I noted while researching electric zero turn mowers. I quickly narrowed the selection to the EGO and Greenworks.
As noted, the main advantages to the Greenworks are:
    Grease Zerks for maintenance.
Battery placement (better weight distribution, since zero turns are already front end light, and better space utilization.
    The "trunk/bed"
The 2" receiver on the front
Added protection of key components underneath
The frame is fully welded, not tack welded like many mowers/tractors today. - Also should note that the 42" models of the residential (60v) and commercial (80v) appear to be the exact same frame, wire harness and I suspect controller (just programmed to the applicable voltage range). That leaves possible differences in the motors themselves, and of course batteries.
The Greenworks comes with a mulching plate cover for the deck.... the Ego doesn't, and is part of an expensive add-on kit.
As noted, the main advantages to the Ego are:
Control panel is provides a lot more information. I like information/data so that I know how my vehicles/equipment functions.
Seat - The adjustable suspension is very appealing to me, as I have back issues.
The bumpers/rub rails on the deck sides to help protect it.
Built in charger is more convienient than the Greenworks (3 separate charging bases, and each pulls 10 amps, so you need to split them up and run on a separate circuits.)
I ended up going with the Greenworks mower and received it yesterday. Assembly was quick and easy, and I expect to mow this weekend, so we will see how it does, and how quickly I learn to drive a zero turn.

I almost got the EGO last year in the fall. Figured I’d wait till spring hoping the price would drop some. Nope, raised it 500$. Lucky for me because the Greenworks crossover came out. A little clarification on the voltages. The Crossover comes in 3 different voltages. 60 volt, sold at Tractor Supply and online. 80 volt sold at Costco. And the 82 volt, which I have, is sold at Greenworks Commercial dealers. All the same machine but different battery voltages. I’ve used the trunk a lot. Pick up sticks while mowing, throw em in the trunk. Dug up tree stumps, in the trunk. Landscaping bricks with bags of gravel and sand, in the trunk.
Congrats on getting yours. You’re gunna love it.

I purchased the EGO at Lowes. It was delivered to my house the next day and it was filthy. There were also some rust spots - even on one of the batteries. The manual had obviously been wet and a box was completely destroyed from rain. The charger didn’t work either. I had them pick it up and I saved lots of money and purchased the greenworks from the company. None of that was the fault of EGO. Just watch out if you purchase from Lowes!

i ended up choosing the greenworks zero turn over the ego for two main reasons. first i liked that the batteries where under the seat and didnt stick way out the back ike the ego. this also meant for additional space to haul stuff, which has came in very handy so far. this also looks more aesthetically pleasing and takes up less room in my already packed garage. Secondly, i was able to get 0% financing for the greenworks through tractor supply. it was nice not having 5k fly out of my checking account all at once. I will give ego the one up on the battery charging situation, but considering the mentioned benefits of the greenworks, they outweighed this issue for me.

The big difference between Green Works and Ego is on the Ego you can adjust speed of travel and speed of blade spin and it gives three settings for control. Green Works doesn't have any of those features. Ego guarantees it's batteries and mower for five years after you register each item. There is nothing on the market like it.

I have prior videos on these if you would like to check them out. If I had to buy one I would probably lean towards the EGO because of their other tools. Hope this helps.

Greenworks mower will not cut thick St Augustine grass. The blade motors overheat and shut down. I have a half acre of St Augustine and my CRZ has abruptly shut down mid mow over 50 % of the times I have mowed. Taking for 1 hour to overnight before it would start again. It would not even power on to limp back to the garage. The mower is currently on its second trip to the service center. Not happy since I have only had it less than 3 months.

ditto. I bought a Greenworks push mower through Costco and returned it the next season. It worked great, until it didn't. It just quit running. Granted, I did have it on somewhat rough terrain - more field than sod, but for $500 and that was 6 years ago? Plus the only repair shop for Greenworks is a 90-minute-one-way drive from me, and I live near the 2nd largest city in Colorado. Still ... it's the only battery mower brand Costco carries, so now I'm considering buying the ZT Greeworks because I know I can return it if it fails.

I bought the Crz428 in July of this year. It has been back for warranty service twice in less 3 months. The motor and blade motors shut down when mowing St Augustine grass. A commercial crossover I should be able to cut a 1/2 acre of St Augustine grass without it shutting down.

Like all the comments, My biggest reason to staying with Ego. Is that all batteries cross to all the other tools
.meaning these batteries will go into my push mower, in my blower in my chainsaw etc. Also, The 6 bay hopper can be used as an amazingly fast stand alone charger for all my Ego batteries
Green works battery is fixed and cannot be removed for other items. Plus I own ego nexus inverter
And now solar charge all my batteries including the rider for free using the sun. Yes it's slower but I mow once every 2 weeks so giving up a day and a half for free energy is amazing. And blackouts won't bother me using solar.
