rip me
I'm so lucky I got to meet you! Thank you for fixing my neighbor's valve cover gasket and thank you for reviewing my Mercury Grand Marquis!
This is supposed to be a happy video but in reality it shows the difference between quality old cars and plastic new ones. So sad how US cars have lost their quality
Parts are cheap for that car
What do you think about the new 2.5 million vehicle ford recall?
I had an uncle who lived in Flint, Michigan. He's long gone. Just like most of the jobs in Flint, Michigan.
You're brutal, Scotty.
Haha that's what I was thinking too
Remember when cars were made in Flint and you couldn't drink the water in Mexico?
@@1VaDude, you still can't drink the water in Mexico and now Flint, too.
1VaDude lmaooo
@@MrJx4000 -- Yeah, that was the point. Cars are now made in Mexico & you can't drink the water in Flint.
Never seen Scotty so happy and excited about a vehicle like this before. He's getting me excited about it and I don't own the truck lol
Definitely hasn’t been this excited about a GM in a looong time. 😂
He's so happy here to share a great bit of history.
They were awesome in their day. I got my hands on a mid 80s Suburban several times in the late 90s and the thing drove like a dream, loaded or unloaded
I don’t see his laughing horses. That’s heck of deal. With a little TLC & paint it will nice great SUV.
It is a Square Body Truck, Though.
Back when GM stood for General Motors not Garbage Motors.
Good point
Garbage Motors made some garbage in the mid to late 70s too
Cameron Peralta - All the big three did. It took competition from other countries to force the big three to build better vehicles.
government motors
Trash that dont hold just 4 more profit they are so greedy
"I had an uncle who lived in Flint, Michigan. He's long gone now. So are the jobs in Flint" Best Scotty line ever
That's what I call a *REAL* SUV... built tough, off-road ready... not like these parking lot princesses they make today.
well the thing is even if they built a tough, capable, off roader people probably wouldn't even go off road, just look at the Mercedes G wagon for example.
Well nowadays cars are about luxury not quality
Today's SUVs are made to lease not to keep forever.
Yup your chevy trax isn’t an SUV.
@@Joemama-ip8di yeah, offroading is overrated and very dangerous! And I know from experience.
Talk about dinosaur technology...
- No beauty cover.
- I can see the concrete driveway.
- Plenty of room not only in the cabin but also under the hood.
Brings tears to my eyes..
@Andrey Angere Lol, LoL
@Andrey Angere my first car is a 1979 Chevy c10 long bed and i bought it for 300 dollar i back yard restored it for a little more than 2000 bucks so they can be really cheap
First video Scotty hasn’t said the word “Toyota”
I love how this ol tank of an SUV can spin the tires from a standstill
Silas McGee It is a steal of a deal, but to be fair those 23 year old tires have to be hard as plastic by now.
80%AshamedOfYou Scotty did say they had a bit of dry rot so they probably don’t have as long left as they normally should
@@80PercentAshamedOfU Yeah I got a 98 f-150 with 56k miles from my step father that has 20 year old tires, those are the first things I am replacing, along with the ancient gas.
“You can have a basketball game in the back if you wanted”😂😂😂
I died when he without thinking slingbladed that one out 😂👀🚨😂👀🚨🏁💣💥😂 .. .. Haven't even finished watching this yet, he's on a terror with this one 😂🏁😂🔥
Normally he would say it fits a couple of basketball players, not the entire game
I’ve never seen Scotty so excited to talk about a GM product😂
For real man. Don't forget it only has 40,000 miles on it. In Scotty voice
Is because when GM was Great
Videos like these you'll always see scotty with excitement
before 2000 and especially the square bodies were amazing trucks. Stupid simple, very tough, that engine inside that truck is probably the most ubiquitous engine out there, 100,000,000 made. Its sad to see GM now and have to consider Ford or Toyota.
It's a square body Suburban. They are the physical definition of Love.
Imagine dropping your car off at scotty’s and seeing it on CZcams
...and he's ripping it to shreads :)
... but not this one!
He would crucify my 2002 Buick.
Well scotty's subs would know to snapshot the odometer before handing him the keys ;)
He'd probably roast my 2008 VW Jetta lol
I spent a lot of years in the back of 1 of those during my Childhood going up to the Mountains & the Snow 🤗👍🏻
Lol i read the first line and thought this comment was going in a different direction , Sorry
@@4486xxdawson 🤣 now that I reread it, you're right haha 😆👍🏻
It's good to see Scotty happy! Especially talking about a GM vehicle. My favorite line is "an actual 4 wheel drive shifter, not that computer crap." I can sure relate to that.
Back when cars were built solid and the owners worked hard to buy one, so really appreciated and looked after them.
And saved up the money to get it.
Unlike most people you see with these new cars that are on finance.
That Suburban Is straight out of the 70s even tho it was Called a 90 Model.
Dam haven’t seen Scotty so excited in a while
Haha 🤣
Right?! He's so excited!
Gove him a tissue. Lol
Especially about a gm product 😂
"What do we have here, the four wheel drive, it's manually shifted. None of that computer crap. Ha ha"
They made em good back in 1990. My 90' Bonneville has 312K original miles and is my daily driver.
Years back we took this quality for granted, " this is what we were paying for" & traded them in & or sold them because we knew we could get a new "shinier one with newer bells & whistles.
Today we get the whistle.
And today's whistle is a plastic made in China model.
Never thought I'd see the day when the 1990s are looked as as the "good old days" of American quality.
Peter Butlien to be Fair the 1990 Suburban body lasted from 1973-1991
To be fair, the “classic rock” radio station of record in my area now plays Green Day/Nirvana so 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️ standards slip over time I guess lol
@Jbog07 beating on power chords is "excellent" music? Lol
Bruce Morris are you sure they didn’t just change platforms? The local oldies station I grew up with is now playing 70s and 80s. I once heard a caller tell the DJ he KLUVed his oldies, the stations motto, but the DJ corrected him. I can’t remember exactly what she said, but she claimed it wasn’t an oldies station anymore. That got to me. I was ready to accept my age, but the DJ wasn’t.
Trucks ONLY.
Back in the day when GM was the heartbeat of America now it's the heartbeat of China
May be changing
G M was king back in the day. best cars, trucks , n suvs.....rock solid......better than ford.
I hope it does change we should of never open up our markets to China in the first place and I agree GM was good back in the day today not soo much GM is just junk anymore
@@driver4011 I don't know if they were king, they just were a big company back then. They still made crap cars
More like the anus.
I feel dirty after watching this. Scotty just cheated on Toyota with GM and I witnessed it.
He already cheated on the Celica with its hotter, and younger adopted sister: the BMW Supra.
This is without a doubt one of my favorite videos. My mom used to have 77 Chevy Scottsdale camper special truck. That thing was a tank. I love to see old Chevy trucks with low mileage so that they can have good future and be able to give the owner lots of reliability for years to come. Thank you Scotty for sharing this video with us. What a beautiful truck.
Of course I would buy it, that truck likely was his baby so ya know dang well he took care of it.
Well, either that or it's in such nice shape cause he didn't really like driving it that much, I guess. Either way, hard to imagine someone would be upset about someone else taking car of the big ol beast. :)
Me to
@ I live in Washington state and you are very sadly mistaken. It is a common misnomer that it rains everyday in Washington. Yes our Winters are rainy but our summers are beautiful Springs not bad either.
I would be honored if someone bought my car after I pass away and kept it on the road. I die while my car lives on.
Nope. I’m having my Mazda parted out and then I wanna be buried in what’s left of the chassis 😂😂😂
My car would be a 100 years old when I'm about 70
I bought my son a used 2008 Honda Accord. Had 178k miles on it and needed a little TLC (other than new tires, nothing real expensive or complex). Anyways, I'm driving to the nearby Honda dealership to grab some parts, and I pull the sun visor down, when out pops an obituary. A picture of a man and what appears to be two older sons on the front, and a man's name on the obituary. It felt creepy as all get out, and I actually felt more responsible for caring for this thing in his absence to keep what he had on the road!
Now, I have no idea if the car belonged to the guy, or if it belonged to someone who knew the guy and had only attended his funeral. Either way it was still a bit creepy.
I'll rather have my cars scrapped; in respect to myself and hard work. No other person should benefit and take away from that.
That's a hell of a find. My stepdad had a 1990 GMC Jimmy. I loved that thing. He drove it until it just rusted apart.
I was dying when Scotty said,”the backseat is so big you can have a basketball game back here”'!
It's a rare thing to see Scotty this happy and impressed by a vehicle. Especially one made by GM 😀
You saved me a lot of money over the years, brother. Thanks
stoic from anotha motha 🤪
I've never seen Scotty so excited over a GM product!!!
What a beautiful rig! Absolutely a steal for that price!!
I love this energy! He seems so happy.
He inhaled some of that carbon monoxide being under the car 😂
6:40, red van driver: "HOLY CRAP what the heck is that guy driving that huge Suburban like a bat out of hell for?!?"
I got scared seen that Pacifica not stoping and Scotty flooring the heck up the Suburban. 😳
I'd love to find an old Suburban in good shape. I'd even take it with the dead guy in it, as long as he doesn't complain about my driving.💀😆
Love your enthusiasm about this car! The owner sure got a gem! My mom had a '66 Chevy pickup. What a tough truck! It rarely needed anything and she drove the dickins out of it--rolled the odometer over three times. In '94 it was parked outside my apartment when some kid tore out of the parking lot next door and caused enough damage that the insurance company totalled it out. Twenty-eight years is pretty good. I hope the owner of the truck in your video gets at least that many years from their truck!
I bought a 97 Explorer 10 years ago from an estate for $600.00 with 80k miles and am still driving it today 135k miles later same engine and transmission.
Howmuch you spent on gas
Yeah bruh get all your gas receipts from the last 10 years
@@icedcoldkilla It gets 15 miles per gallon, but the new Explorers are no better and they are just a Taurus (No frame) Mine is based on the Ranger and has a full frame and is actually pretty tough. I figured I've saved at least 40k not having a car payment for the last 10 + years.
So what? 🖕
My neighbor has the 2500 series that he had lifted 6” and resprayed in corvette silver. 454, dual flow masters, rims and tires. It’s pretty clean and definitely a testament to former GM quality.
I don’t think I’ve seen Scotty so excited about a car in years
I like his happy enthusiasm while talking about this truck. Must be a treat for him to be able to give more positives about a American made vehicle. Even if it is from the past.
5:41 " You Can Have A Basketball Game In The Back If You Want" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Scotty with some good words for a GM product? How refreshing!
I like seeing scotty happy with an older GM truck,
Make sure you have plenty of space in front of you driving one of those, they take forever to stop. Like trying to stop a tank 😄👍🏻
Then "The Heartbeat of America."
Now the coronary bypass of America.
If the man didn’t die in the truck who cares, its when someone dies in the vehicle where you have to be careful.
Give your local exorcist some business.
Only when you look in the rear view mirror on a dark night
Maybe the buyer likes it since he paid 5 grand for an SUV, please he got a free "driving companion" too.
@@fleurdewin7958 Would not worry me, company on long trips, and a great burglar removal thing. Steal it, don't mind the dead guy in the seat next to you, he is mostly harmless, and only visible in the mirror.
Only if it’s a Plymouth Fury though....
;)
Scotty is as giddy as a kid on Christmas. Love it!
1:42 "Built Flint Tough"
Ford: Sorry what??
I wouldn't care unless the person actually died in it. I would restore it.
It’d be nice if that was the only problem nowadays
I have a 99 Suburban w/abt 120K miles on it. (can't remember as I drive it so rarely, and the tires rot out before I wear them down). I think I've been putting on less than 2K on it the last several years, and it still runs well. Wish the AC was working, and the radio is still stock with a tape player and CD player, but... it works well! Definitely cheap to fix, and runs well! And it's rock solid. Had to laugh at your comment about being made in Flint, and jobs being gone there too. Sad to see such jobs gone.
My grandfather had one of these exact models, he passed away and it hasn’t been used in a while but every winter we fire it up and use it to plow our long driveway. Year after year it never fails to rumble to life!
I have the 1991 Jimmy. I bought it with 200K -mostly highway, no leaks and still going strong.
I got an 87 Blazer I restored. Thier hard to find with no rust
Video: lenght 10:02
Me: *Smiling whole time*
The first time ever, I have agreed with Scotty throughout a whole video. Damn nice truck..
I just purchased a 1989 Chevy Suburban, and I love it. It’s in excellent condition and he put a new engine in it. It has over 50,000 miles, plus a duel exhaust. I say get it if you can. Thanks for an awesome video.
I’d love to own this suburban
It's a church on wheel.
Say hello to 9 mpg, 5 if you're towing something. Still a sweet ride.
They where tanks , I had a few and the old chevy g20 Van's with the same engines .
Had a Black 90 GMC. 19 mpg on the Highway, 12 in town. Regretted selling it.
Lol - Scotty: " I have an uncle from Flint Michigan, he's long gone, as are the jobs in Flint Michigan" lol

I'm from Flint, Mi. And he didnt lie!
Scotty... you're excitement and enthusiasm is contagious! 😊😊😊
Thank You Scotty for all your Videos. You provide great information and a simple approach with honesty about vehicles and repair.
Thanks Again Bud.
New paint job and be good to go! 🤗 My grandpa had one of these when I was a kid.
Dinosaur technology 😆🤣😂😂always a good laugh with SCOTTY
I can see the genuine excitement from you, looking around this old truck. Old vehicles certainly have character.
ALSO!!!! "Solid as hell" first time i ever heard you swear!! You were definitely excited!
Not sure what it is but old vehicles are more exciting than a new plastic crap box
My grandparents had a 1991 GMC Suburban 1500 4x4, these square body GM suburbans and trucks have a special place in my heart.
It’s sad the new one broke the tradition of the column shifter.
Its funny but my daughter drives a car with floor shift and all her friends as well , she got in my 99 denali and said how do you shift with that lol , i like it on the column but apparently trucks are cars now with all the electronics and belks and whistles that we dont need. There are no real trucks left
Scotty is so excited about this truck!! "After all,, it only has 40 thousands miles on it" 🤣🤣
I did the same on a 97. A new engine installed by him. He was a mechanic at a dealership. All OEM parts and it runs like a dream. Only problems was the fuel pump gave out using the ethanol gas and a computer relay went bad. Bless that man for all the care he put in, solid and a dream on long drives. You touched close to home Scotty , Thanks.
I bought a 90 half ton 5.7 4x4 Chevy Suburban in 2016 with 195000 miles on it. It went from CA & GA truck with no rust. 229900 miles today and runs like a top. Used it to tow a 78 Pace car on a chunky Uhaul trailer and it did great. These trucks are built to last as long as the rust worm stays away.
I love the older General Motors cars. Nowadays, the new ones ain’t worth a sh**!
I'd say your wrong!, currently own a 2019 Chevy sonic premier 4dsn in cherry red. Wow! what an amazing car ; it brings a smile to my face every time I drive it. You see not all G.M cars are bad.

I drive a 86 Chevy K20 everyday. I've had it twenty years.
Had an 85 K20 for years, beat the tar out of it hauling and towing, dragging trees out of the woods with firewood stacked over the cab. Never missed a beat! Sold it for $1500 to my brother in law because I moved to a house without a wood burner. He uses it for the same stuff I did. Saddest day of my life. You will pay $4k for a square you can see through nowadays.

This is my favorite body style of Suburban!
I got excited just watching you talk about it. Lucky man to get that truck.
That 4x4 shifter brings back some great memories of weekend vacations in the hills of Pennsylvania.
The last time I was this early GMC were good vehicles built to last. 🤣🤣
Probably back when Scotty released the videos on his own website and CZcams didn't exist yet.
old dead man's car : shifts like a dream

2020 keeps bringing me surprises even Scotty being excited about a GM truck
Hey! Found a 1989 Suburban 350 and 4x4, in eastern WA, parked for over 10 years, Silverado trim! Only 81k miles, and yes, it was only $500. However, after new fuel pump, coolant flush, brake wheel cylinders, oil change, and new vacuum lines, this thing is amazing.
Got my 67 impala with 86k miles from a dead guy. Sat for 20+ years but I’m pretty sure the odo never rolled over.
A good GM car? Are you sure Scotty?
Yeah, GM used to build good cars. Hard to imagine, I know, with how they've destroyed their reputation building complete crap for 20 years.

These big Squarebody Suburbans are absolute TANKS! These along with the GMT400 and 800s are my favorite eras of the Suburban.
Hi Scotty! I live in Ohio and have 2 old square body Chevy 3/4 trucks I use for snow plowing. 1 is a 1987 with the throttle body injection a the other is a 1979 and have them for over 10 years and paid $700 for the 87 with the snow plow. They were selling it cheap because it turned over but wouldn't start. my son sprayed some ether down the intake and it fired. The truck used to 2 fuel tanks on it and the 2 fuel relays on the fire wall. He unplugged the connector from 1 relay and plugged it into the other one and with gas put into the throttle body this fired right up. Then we found out this had not for at lease 12 years. You could tell be the smell of the rotten gas, but I can't it ran after sitting that long. I just used this winter again for plowing snow and he had not ran since last winter. This thing is amazing and I love it. The 79 has 1972 Chevy 5.7 V-8 also that has a carburetor. It had a points distributor in it. I changed it out to GM HEI one. Both trucks ran and drive great and the transfer cases are all mechanical and work great. I want to fine more of these old trucks. They are so dependable and easy to work on. Oh they both have the turbo 350 transmissions in them with no problems.
Many of us live in rooms and building's where many have died , so why differ with this situation 😕
Judge: " Sir, what do you have to say for yourself before I sentence you?" Defendant: " Scotty said I should buy a dead man's truck and it was a nice truck and he wasn't dead"
Brings back great memories of my childhood...we had one in the '70's.
I may be only 18 years old, but I grew up around old vehicles, my grandpa had an 88 ranger, and a 1980s dodge camper. Definitely remember being in that ol thing. I'll always love older model vehicles than newer ones. Reasons why I do, I love the way they look I'm used to this types of cars, and it reminds me of my grandparents and my early childhood in the 2000s. Makes me feel like I'm going back in time whenever I'm in an older model vehicle.
Lol-Ole Scotty was so excited over this vehicle I think he had a “woody!” 😉😂
Jajaja me too
