You have to sing at baseball and football stadiums the way she sang it, because your own voice echoes back and hits you when you are already on the next verse. She sant God Bless America slow and methodical, waiting to hear her own voice in response before moving on to the next line of the song. It looked cold too. Whitney's National Anthem was so amazing because it was pre-recorded and she just lip-sinced that at the Superbowl, but that doesn't make it any less than magnificent, because it was.
But, even singing God Bless America, Donna Summer gives me chills. I love her so much, and miss her terribly. When I die, I anticipate hearing her sing LIVE and in PERSON once more... not her hits from this life, but something beyond that, and even better than when she was at her very, very best. Yes, she sings where she is, and the angels weep. I this life, her voice was very powerful, but in the next her voice can bend the universe.
First class versatil and pioneer singer. I miss her voice and live performances.

Why is it always the 70's? She continued through the 80's and 90's. Her last CD was in 2008, Crayons.

Donna didn't really do runs and riffs. That usually was not her style or approach to a song. Not that she couldn't. Instead, she approached songs like an actress reading a script.
It's why she could sing anything....won Grammys in 4 different genres (singing). Don't know if anyone matches that.
