- An un-planned visit to my bogey water, the Yorkshire gravel pit. My least successful venue which has proved to be un-reasonably difficult for me over the years and guess what, it was again. At least my buddy managed a fish.

My club have a pike filled lake i have fished it so many times and blanked, and i know there are some big girls in there. I have had a couple of jacks and a couple of 16lbers out in years of fishing it.....
I dont fish it anymore as its sole destroying....
Good luck on your next outings,we had a good session yesterday 5 fish on the bank....
Thank you, looking forward to the vid 👍
Dan's put a fair amount of thought into fishing that venue judging by his videos. I thought that was impressive for young lad.
He doesn't fish one spot for too long possible a good thing.
Certainly has the results to show it works for him.
Personally i have to be in the mood for being mobile or if it's a new venue that I'll need to explore
My old nemesis pike venue was the Trent for years i had bigger Zander out of the Trent than the pike.
So that gives you some idea of the quality of Zander i had but the pike fishing just didn't work out.
My mate took me to one of his favourite places on the Trent and i cured myself with a 17lb pike.
It felt good after so many years of struggling to get anything over double figures.
A very memorable fight very impressive.
I now have a new nemesis a local pond 4 visits no runs but my mates have struggled so I'm not the only one suffering.
I have seen jacks in the margins in the early hours and a few in the daytime.
Sometimes it's worth preserving just for any results and other times it's better to search for better venues.
The challenge is what it's all about as well as balancing catching with the blanks that are inevitable when you fish the challenging venues. Fishing with a mate makes both scenarios a lot more enjoyable. Thanks for reaching out Robert.👍
Enjoyed listening to the liquid calls of Curlews, a wonderful sound which I’m sure helped get you through a tough session. You’ll catch next trip for sure :-]
Just after posting that, and decided to read the comments to see if anyone else did. Aren't they just stunning.
Thank you Andy, the lake is surrounded with wetlands which is why the Curlews are there, certainly one of my favourite sounds, used to be my phone ringtone 🤣
Good to see you back on the bank Bruce! Well done to your partner in crime on a nice double.
I don't why that place doesn't like you, I'll have a word with it next time I'm down! 😂
Thanks for the mention and the little clip that was awesome
Thanks Dan, you're welcome. 👍
i have a similar water near me weed choked! but spent a full day finding the clearer spots...pre baited the spots..fished em the following week a total change in my catch rate!...tight lines until next time bruce !
Only trouble is the water isn't local to me so pre-baiting isn't a realistic option, thanks for the advice though 👍
Your all casting out to far and spooking the fish 😮
Thanks for the advice
The BEATIFUL call of the curlew (04.55).....up there with Motzart
try maybe critically balanced bait. See Des Taylor on youtube. Very simple setup. It sorted my problem on waters were takes were finicky (like in this vid). I would also scan the water with a castable deeper, for clear spots and to find absolute clinker drop off spots. I only say this, as solving an angling puzzler is so, so satisfying. Don't let it beat you.
Love the video and your commentary as always.
Thank you Frank glad that you enjoyed it and thank you for the advice. Interestingly the fish my pal caught came to a popped up large headless Herring which was critically balanced, hmm?
Well……I did enjoy the music😂
Well that's a start I suppose ?
