  • Once the most powerful all-in-one desktop in the world, the 2015 iMac is almost 10 years old. How does it hold up today?

    a few things I'd add:
    1) these early 5K iMacs tend to develop a pink hue around the display. the one in this video also suffer from it, although not really serious. so if you get one, I STRONGLY recommend to check that first with a full-screen white/grey image (you can do that by going to safari and type about:blank in the address field)... remember: the display is the solely reason you'd get one of these.
    2) if you have one with SSD then great, but if you don't, you can always install macOS on an external SSD and boot from there. i know you can upgrade the internal SSD but for most users it's just not worth the hassle and the risk of breaking the display (again, the display is why you bought one, and you dont wanna break it).
    3) for the time being the iMac is still very usable... but let's say 5 years from now if it's too slow (especially compared to apple silicon macs), you could always mod it to be a standalone 5k monitor by using a custom board. of course this requires complete disassemble of the iMac, but for this purpose it's worth it imho. look up luke miani's video for more details.

    The 5K display is amazing.
Buying a used iMac is a great way to enjoy it!
    Avoid the Fusion drives.
I'm a little paranoid about OS security and support, so I just replaced my 2017 iMac with a 2020.

That biome was the mangrove swamp, which I have never seen generate so close to the spawn.

    I still use a 2012 21.5” iMac.
macOS Sonoma gets slow and unusable, probably because of the shitty but dirt cheap SSD I put in place of the terribly slow 1TB hard drive. Windows 11 runs really well though, completely usable, and can do some games. Minecraft is playable, and GTA IV runs well. Haven’t tried GTA V, because it requires too much space.

Bought a 2015 5K iMac a couple years back, and converted it to an external display for my M3 iMac. The screen is still gorgeous by 2024 standards, and actually has better brightness, contrast, and more vivid colors compared to the M3 iMac screen. So these systems are still worth the $$ solely for their displays. Way cheaper to transform it into a 5K monitor than what actual 5K monitors are selling for.

I have the base version which I am still using. i5 3.2ghz, 16gb ram (came with 8, i added 8) and m95 with 2gb video card and 256gb ssd, That’s what I could afford at the time …. I am waiting for m4 pro and max chips to launch and then i will get the Mac Studio unless they do an iMac Pro

Except for my 2015 MacBook Pro, all of my older macs have been converted to Linux.

Great video I want one of these. my three 2015 15" Macbook Pros still run flawlessly. I run virutal linux machines on them. Sure my M1 Max destroys them but my 2015's are my two daily drivers. media sports. I beat the shit out of them and both literally have never crashed. No issues. I open them asnd keep them very clean inside but still. My M1 macbook Air is far better but for everyday things. 2015 was a great year for apple
