Humans have useless, uncoordinated babies with patchy skulls because we are bipedal! The shape/angle of the human pelvis doesn't allow our newborns to develop to the autonomy level that other mammals do before birth because, if we did, our giant hard skulls would just kill Mom on the way out. I once watched from a boat while a mountain goat gave birth on a cliffside overlooking a lake, and that little thing was up, running and jumping around immediately. But it makes sense, because Mama Goat can't spend the next year free-soloing El Capitan with a Baby Bjorn strapped to her like Cody promised he would.
