  • A victim of sexual assault herself, Jessica Ladd says it's time to change the outdated response to rape and assault - especially on college campuses - where most survivors do not even report the event. With better systems for capturing this information and banding survivors together, Jessica says we can start creating a world where rape is rare and inexcusable, and perpetrators are held accountable. She explains how to put survivors back in control.
    Jess Ladd is the Founder and CEO of Sexual Health Innovations (SHI), a non-profit dedicated to creating technology that advances sexual health and wellbeing in the United States. At SHI, she spearheaded the creation of the STD partner notification website So They Can Know, the STD test result delivery system Private Results, and the college sexual assault reporting system Callisto.
    This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

    How could police do anything after a year, then it would be just a story against story, they could not pick up any evidence etc.
    The idea sound´s like the supposed victim is always talking the truth.

      Don't you know that women never lie? Oh, and only women are raped. See, now you don't have to go to feminist (re)education camp.

    Wow this new tech is amazing. I hope that more countries make those platforms and that society becomes aware of this huge issue and believe in survivors so they don't feel that afraid to talk. All of the experiences I have known of rape weren't report, people didn't believe in them, even their own families, and misogynist in this world makes everything harder, people think they asked for it, that they enjoyed it, that men can't help it, that our feelings aren't valid so we live with fear everyday, our mom's, our teachers and even friends say that we have to be extra careful and I hope that this changes because we are tired of living with fear, not walking alone and even not being aware that a partner can rape you. So thanks for all the strong people who have work very hard to help others who are living this or to prevent this from happening

      +Lindsay AB You don't know much about the topic either. The statistics used are false. See the video:
      *Sexual assault in America: Do we know the true numbers?*
      to see Prof. Christina Sommers debunk the false statistics.

    The "establishing a pattern of behaviour" and similar conclusions are hasty ones which presume the truth is being reported.

    so youre suggesting people who believe they have been raped dont go to the police but instead report it to a database which is held online? Wouldnt it be better to simply suggest they report it to the police so that it can be investigated?

      @geraldn.6871 Před 7 lety

      The police would investigate, the online site will just collect needed "data" for political agendas.

    • @bobleonheart9600

      Gerald N. If I understand the system right the report would only be forwarded to the police if there are multiple reports against the same person. Wouldn't it be easier to just report directly to the police in the first instance so that we don't need to wait for further possible rapes to occur before an investigation is started? Isn't that the whole point to stop people from being raped? It seems like this system almost encourages us to wait until a rapist becomes a multiple rapist before any action is taken to stop them.

    • @geraldn.6871

      no, once a rape claim is filed the complaint, the police would be required to investigate by law.

    • @bobleonheart9600
      @bobleonheart9600 Před 7 lety

      Gerald N. Yes, once a rape claim is filed with the police. This system being suggested would hold the claim on a third party database until it has multiple matches on the suspect before the data is passed to the police so it could be months or even years before the claim actually gets investigated.

      not anymore, rape laws have become more militant in every state. Now days more men and boys go straight to jail as they wait for the police to investigate.
