Welcome to another episode of The TechTual Talk!
In this episode, we tackle the tough questions and share practical advice on navigating the often daunting journey of job hunting, particularly in the tech and cybersecurity fields. We discuss why finding a new job can take anywhere from three to six months-or longer-and explore the critical role of networking, strategic planning, and resume optimization.
You'll hear us debunk the myth that applying to countless jobs increases your chances of success, and we emphasize the importance of focusing on relevant positions and tailoring your applications. Henri sheds light on the benefits of obtaining entry-level positions at reputable companies that offer tuition reimbursement, while Destini shares her personal journey of entering cybersecurity through a master’s program.
We also address the controversial topic of job training programs and certifications, and whether they are worth your time and money. Additionally, we'll chat about quality engagement on LinkedIn, building a robust personal brand, and leveraging connections to find referrals and job opportunities.
Whether you're just starting out, contemplating a career change, or looking to climb the ladder in your current field, this episode is brimming with valuable insights and tips to help you succeed. I’m glad I don’t have to go through looking for my first job. I will be finishing my associate in computer network sys&admin while working towards my ccna and I got promoted as an IT tech. Looking forward to learning🙏🏽

Should I get a masters in cyber security, I have no IT experience and I’m working on SEC+. What is your opinion.

If you can afford it I don’t see why not. I would also encourage trying to get some type of entry level it role while in school as well. It’ll make the work make more sense
