Creating some metal straps to hang the ride cars from and add internal bracing. "Ride of the Week" returns & we also visit a small carnival in Lancaster Pennsylvania.
Getting faster at the new editing software but it's going to take a while to become as comfortable with this as I was with the old software. I've got a backlog of project footage to put together and get uploaded.

Mr. Roneau Jeff Barry here from Lebanon PA. I just remembered somewhere I was looking at that old Ferris wheel that is up for sale. I was thinking back when I was a kid Hersheypark had a ride called the ladybug if you remember or the beetle something like that and I had this big thing in front of the cars I think that was a drive system, but it also made a noise like this like a buzzing noise, do you remember that at all and figure out what I’m talking about
That old wheel brought back memories. Used to run an old Eli bridge cable drive wheel in the early 70's.
Looking great, Pete! Can't wait to see this ride finished!
You and me both!
Best restoration project on the internet. Also get some old school carnival ride footage too.
Thanks so much!
Can't get enough of this project, Pete. Great series..! Love to see other peoples thought-process when thinking about the engineering aspects of a build.
Amazing how time can get away from you, finishing the project by October is going to be quite a slog (I think I mentioned before how a build arcade machines, and some of these that were supposed to be finished mid January, are still awaiting the finishing touches!). Bummer how you've had some horrendous weather (here in the UK, it's been a constant heatwave for several weeks now).
The cars of the ride (and no doubt, the ride in its entirety) is going to be SOOooo much better engineered than when it rolled out of the factory!
Great job! And looking forward to the next vid with all your other footage.
Coming along good Pete. I talked to the guy who had the 12 seat Garbrick Wheel. He sold it real cheap. I was a little too late as he had already sold it.
I am by no means a machinist, but am totally enjoying this incredible project you have taken on, Pete. FASCINATING! Carry on and good luck!!!
It's really nice to see all the passion you have for this. Thank you for sharing it with us.
So want to be your next door neighbor. Great progress! Found another dark ride, but the operator wont come down on the price....some day my friend. I did find a few pictures of Flying Witch being installed, enthusiast Jay Durcharme has a visit of Niagra up and detailed pictures linked in the notes.
I've noticed an increase in printed vinyl graphics instead of the traditional airbrush paintings.
Loving the update. Kids will stress test every part of the ride. Was wondering what are your plans for it when it's finished .
Pete I love the Farmer Tractor ride …. And where you show your grandchildren how to use tools …. Keep them videos coming I have been a fan of your channel from day 1 of the restoration project….. I look forward every time you post something…
I really appreciate hearing that!
The Rockstar looks interesting, as the Huss Rainbows are fading away. As a Huss fanboy, I'm really interested in that. The restrains look really uncomfortable though.
I also find it quite interesting that the US banned the Tagada rides, but the very very old classic rides are still active. In germany, it is the other way around. Tagadas everywhere, but older rides need to be retrofitted to the current safetey standarts (mechanical and electric). It's not a complaint, it's just interesting for me as a german to learn about your fairs and to see rides, which never will get setup in germany.
You guys could use some of our thrillrides from europe, though :P
This rockstar actually replaced a rainbow. The difference between European rides and American rides is rather striking - I share your interest in seeing rides that are foreign to our country. As an American, I look at the Tagada and think “those people are crazy! How do they get away with running that!” I also don’t see us ever allowing some of those rides like the swinging pirate ships that have standup cages added to the ends.

The Tagada has it's dangers for sure, but we expect the riders to know what they are doing. If you hold on to the bars in the back, nothing bad happens. If someone falls, it's mostly on the bum and it makes for a good laugh.
I actually prefer the "Hupferl" models. Pretty much the same, just with one big up and down direction for big air time instead of the smaller left/right movement for airtime pops. When I was a child I used to stand up on those and jumped really high. Never saw anything bad happen myself, just funny stuff
The cages are mostly present in France, Belgium and Spain it seems like. Even Rainbow type rides and a kind of Enterprise had those cages, too. Germany says no to that. Would love to try it though. Same with a Zipper. The industrial design of the ride is awesome.
What I also really loved was the steam fair you showed. I've been a fair ride and rollercoaster enthusiast since I was a child, but I had no Idea something like existed. Even though I prefer the most intense rides, seeing that got me real excited.
I just love how far we came worldwide. From traveling 200ft full rotation pendulum rides to 278ft gyro drop towers. It's just bonkers.
That's odd how the on that wheel is facing each other never seen that before
That is the unique feature of the Double Eagle, rather than loading one seat at a time from the end of the ride, you can load two seats from the middle of the ride. A slight decrease in wait time- but based on how few we see out there, it wasn't a popular option.
I noticed the same thing. I thought that was odd.
What camera are you using to film the scenes at the carnival?
I use the same Panasonic camera I use for everything else. But it has really poor low light capabilities. Once the sun starts going down I have to switch to my phone.
When was the carnival at Clipper Magazine Stadium Pete
It was early in the season, somewhere in the middle of April
I would have used a water jet cutter over lazer cut
well, in my case, I work with the guy who owns the laser cutter and I don't know anyone who owns a water jet so that pretty much decides it for me.
You know anywhere in ohio that jas abandond rides? Ide like to restore a old rocket ride or somthing.
They actually have the ride you’re trying to restore down at Strickers Grove so you can get a better look at what the ride is supposed to look like! One downside is you have to go whenever they’re open to the public though..
Yes, I have tried contacting them to see if I could get a better look. It is the only version I've ever seen that still has the fins on the front and rear. I've never heard anything back from them.
@@PeteRondeau that’s a shame
Hi my name is Dave I grew up in New Haven Mi. I went to school with and am good friends with the person who owns the building and property on Victoria Street where King rides were built and his mother was friends with the King family if you ever want to film the place I could set it up for you .the kings had a small amusement park called Kings Animal land on Gratiot Ave. Just outside of New Haven I went there on a field trip in kindergarten 55years ago parts of it are still there let me know if you're interested 😊
Wow, that's all very cool! I wish I was a bit closer. If my travels get me anywhere close to that part of country I will be sure to reach out.
