This video is kind of a tip of the iceberg in terms of how I began tracking my own music but its really just a quick word about recording music spontaneously without having total control over what happens to one's audio.
The four-track analog cassette recorder is by far the greatest tool for capturing some of the most spontaneous and truly magical performances possible. You are limited with the amount of tracks you can use, bussing, routing and there is absolutely no room for error when dealing with tape!
Multitrack tape cassette recorders are more than that though. In a way, they teach you to master your skill and help you create tighter and more effective mixes because of their limitations. They help remind you of what is truly important to you in your own mix. You can't have them million freaking synths or voices happening at once. It forces you to choose wisely the most important elements for you mix.
