    Food like this in such places or even other ones around Prishtina or elsewhere in Kosovo is not only cheaper but healthier also, better for the stomach. Yes Flija and Burek are good, yes we make some good hamburgers and 'qebapa/cevapi' etc. or grilled meat, but can't eat that all the time. We make some good Qorba/thick soup too, depending on the place you eat it. Nothing beats homemade food cooked at home, but some of these places get quite close to it.
    Also not sure if you did but you should try the Indian tea and Turkish coffee served here... it's great, as well as Machiatto. Kosovo makes one of the best Machiattos in the world. You know why? Because all of our baristas and servers are with Bachelor degrees, most of them with Master's and MBA's....... the unemployment crisis joke :P but it's really often a thing here, not too often nowadays maybe.

    I’m on board having binged through all your Kosovo vids! Felt pretty intrepid but I’ve always thought that you see more walking through places. The goulash looked pretty damn good - the last place I had it was in the Dog and Gun in Keswick, where, for no apparent reason, it is the ‘specialite du boozer’. I’m betting the Kosovan stuff was better. Great stuff, will look forward to where you go next!

    Wow. Have some goulash with your bread! I love that it's almost half a loaf of bread, and not even sliced. My dad would be overjoy with that - since I was little, he always breaks his bread into chunks and tosses it into soups or stews to soak up the liquid, then eats the bread first.

    "Knife and fork." I thought you were eating goulash? Gets a spoon later. That did look very tasty. Question for you, is that a Coke, or an American Coke? Basically, sugar or corn syrup? Because Mexican Coke is a very real thing in the US because it's the original Coke with sugar. Can't wait to see where you head next.

    I really liked the interaction with your friend. The flag thing seems strange... not sure I understand why there are so many Albanian flags. Is it because most people see themselves as Albanians living in the political state of Kosovo? From as early as the Roman and Ottoman Empires it seems this area has been traded, absorbed, carved back out, suppressed, and liberated dozens of times. It is complicated for sure. It is interesting to see that there is a type of patriotic connection to Albania left in the people now. Is this a traditional, conservative opinion or is it some kind of revolutionary movement?

    • @adrianog4148
      @adrianog4148 Před 2 lety +1

      Empires came and go. The people in this area were always albanians.

    • @celphtitled904
      @celphtitled904 Před 2 lety +2

      Lol.... see themselves, really? We are ethnically Albanian here in Kosovo. Though of course we might differ from the Albanians in Albania due to us being in ex-Yugoslavia and much advanced at the time and our compatriots in Albania being under the brutal communist regime of Enver Hoxha - still, ethnically we are the same.
      There are lots of people here who love Albania, the flag and everything due to the past (we were one country once). I personally (Kosovar-Albanian) think we're better off as 2 countries, and I don't share the overly-patriotic sentiment that some here blindly do. It's not extremely complicated... think in terms of the UK and its countries. We were always Albanian, shared the same land even under the regime of the Ottoman Empire (for 500 years) and lived in the Kosovo Vilayet. Same traditions, same language and approach towards religion (more or less) and that's a different topic, the Kosovo Liberation Army fought under the Albanian flag and symbols in 98'-99'.
      Regarding religion, it's not all black and white. Albanians (including the ones in Kosovo) were historically Orthodox Christian. Then most converted to Islam (forcefully) under the Ottoman Empire, then once Albania declared independence in 1912 things started to evolve. In the communist regime of Enver Hoxha, Albania was basically an 'atheist' country, or secular to put it better. Enver Hoxha shut down anything that had to do with religion and practicing it was illegal. Meanwhile, the Albanians in Kosovo in ex-Yugoslavia were only declared Muslim as majority, but very few actually practiced the religion. The practicing has raised a bit after the war, especially with the influence of some radical groups from Saudi Arabia and the likes, but the society still doesn't accept Islam here. Albanians in Kosovo are only declared Muslim when it comes to population registration stats, but still only about 20% of the population really practices Islam and can be considered a Muslim technically. You can see that during the month of Ramadan the clubs, bars etc. are full including drinking of alcohol, smoking etc. which is prohibited in Islam. It simply doesn't sit well with the society here, and the practice percentage will even drop with the newer generations. There is a small percentage of declared Christians among Kosovo Albanians but even they don't practice the religion, the churches are often empty.
      We generally like Occident more than Orient, same goes in Albania as they are more influenced by Italy and Greece rather than Turkey. Kosovo was in the same country (Yugoslavia) with Slovenia, Croatia and the likes so you can imagine the influence.
      Anything else you want to know just ask and don't make naive assumptions like 'they see themselves'.

    • @maskinisten019
      @maskinisten019 Před 2 lety

      Are you serious mate? How do you not understand? Kosovo is like 97% Albanian people.

    • @celphtitled904
      @celphtitled904 Před 2 lety +1

      Also wanted to add more to give you a broader perspective of the modern times.
      Albania has the sea, Kosovo doesn't. We Kosovar Albanians mostly frequented Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia and Greece while in ex-Yugoslavia, obviously the economical situation was better for the people here. After the breakup of Yugoslavia, we frequented Montenegro as it was closer and generally cheaper, especially towns like Ulcinj. After the war of 99 we still frequented Montenegro mostly, very rarely went to Albania because the road was too complicated and it took like 12-13 hours of tough riding to get there. In 2009 both Governments funded and created a highway that connects Kosovo and Albania through Prizren and Kukes. Now Tirana is a 4 hour drive from here, in a generally good highway road, though not the best.
      While we still visit Montenegro especially Ulcinj and Budva, a lot of us since 2009 have been major contributors of the Albanian tourism as we frequented both the Adriatic part of Albania (Durres, Shengjin, Velipoje) and the south / Ionnian sea part (Vlore, Sarande, Ksamil, Himare, Dhermi) etc. Some of us visit Greece at that point as well because the ferry trip from Sarande to Corfu takes only 1 hour.
      Their businessmen see us as money, and rightfully so. The treatment and reception is ok, not the best, or not how it should be among same ethnicities. Some of them see us as low-level citizens, and honestly some of us see them as the same. In fact, we are a bit more advanced mentality-wise, even though they are progressing at a much faster rate nowadays.
      Still, factually the Albanians in Albania more criminal-minded, rougher and more dangerous in general compared to the Albanians in Kosovo. However, when it comes to being patriotic, fighting for the 'motherland' and contributing for the national cause, Kosovo Albanians are always first. Before Kosovo was officially accepted in FIFA and UEFA, Kosovar Albanians were the biggest fans of the Albanian National Football Team. Now we have our own to cheer for and most of us now are not so enthusiastic about their national football team. In fact, many Kosovar-born Albanians played and contributed largely for the success that the Albanian NT had in 2016 when they qualified for the European Championship.
      The most touristic place of Kosovo is Prizren.

    You don't have to visit albania since you are already in albania
