Marty Balin’s voice is FINE
Yessssss
Balin coming back to the band and bringing this classic with him, put the album over the top. It is his masterpiece.
Marty Balin was one of the most underrated singers there EVER was!!! His voice was magical.....
I'll add to that. This is J.S. swan song. Perfect from beginning to end. I listen to it every time I'm down.
This type of song used to be referred to as “ baby making music “! So smooth it gives you chills
I’d like to make a baby when I hear this song. 🤣
Their best song by far. Balin's vocals are just magical mixed with Gracie and company's equally magical background and the arrangement is sultry and sensuous blending the strings, keys, percussion and guitar so perfectly. Possibly the "sexiest" song ever recorded. If this doesn't create a stir inside you, you're probably dead. Pure soul, just sublime ❤
Groovy man, groovvyy!
except for everything on spitfire
@@roystonmason9125 I'm partial to Red Octopus, but yeah Spitfire was amazing as well.
@@48nature Yeah I used to just comment on CZcams videos, but then I started commentating for the big bucks, now I'm set for life! 😁
The miracle of intimacy, strings and orchestration of the heart, horns of happiness, the sensual vocal duet,it's all there
Well put.
One of the most sensuous songs ever!
Asia & BJ, you'll love Jefferson Starship's "Count On Me" and "Play On Love"!!! Marty Balin - lead and backing vocals, wrote this song; Grace Slick - backing vocals; Paul Kantner - backing vocals, rhythm guitar; Craig Chaquico - lead guitar, backing vocals; Papa John Creach - electric violin; David Freiberg - organ, backing vocals; Pete Sears - bass, electric piano, backing vocals; John Barbata - drums, percussion, backing vocals; - Additional personnel Bobbye Hall - percussion, congas; Irv Cox - saxophone.
Don't forget, we can run, run, run, "Runaway".
Oh what can I tell you now Caroline. Should I hurt your feelings or keep lying?
Count On Me, along with Miracles, are probably my two favorite Jefferson Starship songs.
This song was composed perfectly with every part placed right. Listened to it in my teens over and over
Three things that really make this song:
1. Marty Balin's voice, especially when he really takes off near the end, going higher and higher, as the sax comes in
2. The overall smoothness and groove to go with the lyrics
3. Grace Slick's vocals... it's subtle, but knowing how powerful her voice is when she wants it to be, every time she says "Ooh baby", she sounds like a Ferrari in 1st gear, just touching the gas pedal, like she's gonna let it rip any second, but she holds it back (mostly), and the effect is amazing 😁
One of the most sensual songs in rock
One song I stop what I'm doing, just to listen to. Simply beautiful!
"Stop lookin' at me like a little snack" BAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Asia you're killing me, :). Dial it down, BJ, hehehehehe!!
My favorite Jefferson Starship song! So glad you're reacting to the long version. I'm a sucker for a great horn/percussion groove. This is some of the best instrumental "solo" for a song BECAUSE it's not a guitar solo.
In my opinion, the greatest love song ever written.
This song makes me remember my first love in 1975. I still cry everytime I hear it. You never forget your first love.
I hear ya…for me it was this song and ‘93. The ‘70s resurgence was quite strong in the early nineties.
They were great to see them live, in concert. And yes, check out the lyrics to this one for sure. R.I.P Marty Balin
Marty Balin vocals .. Classic song , a Favorite since it was released..
There is nothing to not like about this song! Music, vocals, and background singers totally killed it and set a perfect mood.
"Run Away" is an underrated gem 💎
Great memories from a great group. My favorite of theirs, with Marty singing lead, is "Run Away".
Mickey Thomas was another level.
"I had a taste of the real world, when I went down on you." " You ripple like a river when I touch you, when I pluck your body like a string" "When I start dancing inside you" Ya'll missed it just like most of us did when the song came out.
Yes! And this was from 1977, so I think they sneaked this one past the radio censors!!
My mother was in her 30's at the time and a cool parent, I can't believe we sang this in the car, I didn't know the real words and she probably didn't either or she would have turned the station very quickly to keep my innocence, lol. @@lesyankee6129
Don't count me in with "ya'll missed it like most of us did..." The lyrics were printed on the album. I was a 17 yr old senior football player @ MHS in Mamaroneck, NY and gave it to my cheerleader girlfriend Michele L in Oct of 75. We didn't miss one word. Not a drop of it...
@@lesyankee6129 September of 75 not 77. My senior year in hs. What radio censors? Not the rock stations broadcasting from the Big Apple NYC or Long Island. You must be a hick from the sticks
@@mattgb23 OK, matt, good for you. Was I off by 2 yrs? Fine, sue me. I was in 9th grade then. In case you're curious, I grew up in lower Manhattan (yeah, NYC) and in 75 was living in North Jersey. Probably listening to WABC 77. Never lived in the sticks. Have a nice day out on the Island. If you're a Mets fan, or ride the LIRR you have my sympathies. I'm outta here.
Remember: This is the same band that gave us "Jane".
This is Marty Balin on Spotify was fun to listen to yesterday, would've been his Birthday...he lived the end of his life near Tampa...he'd show up on a tiny FM station play a few songs and impromptu interview, kept low-profile...He took alot of lumps in his career, like for real got punched out in Concert, documented on Film!!!!! His style was so unique from Rock/Psychedelic.that put them all in Hall of Fame!!!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Ah, the 70's. This was one of the great Sex Anthems of the decade, and it's been one of my favorite songs ever since. Everything seemed to be about sex back then, and songs like this celebrated the sensual delights of lovemaking, the details, the tastes and smells and sounds of a lover. The sexy vibe, the bass guitar, how it climbs slowly up and up towards that final cry of climax - whew! Sex about pleasure instead of power - we worked hard to be as good at it as we could. Guys bragged about how long they could, um, _savor_ their ladies, something you never EVER hear anymore. SIGH There's definitely things I miss about the 70's!
Sex Anthems ..hahaha
TMI…🥸
@@48nature Yes, bass guitar. What's the matter, never listened to a rock band before?
@@1BobsYourUncle Sorry you want to deny what most of rock is about, dude. Maybe work on that pearl-clutching.
@@Serai3 it was a joke sugar britches, calm down and go to your safe space. Wow……
Love seeing Asia enjoying it ❤
Marty Balin knocked it out of the psrk with this marvelous song. Such a beautiful voice, a beautiful song. This was really a treat fot music lovers.
I'm so glad you played the album cut. I've loved this song from the first time I heard it that I ran right out and bought the sheet music to it which I still have. And I thought I seen you catch the line ( I had a taste of the real world, then I went down on you).
Yeah, Asia’s face was priceless when he sang those lyrics, as if to say, ”Did he just say what I THOUGHT he said?” 😂 Great and sensuous song!
It’s “I had a taste of the real world WHEN I went down on you, girl.”
Yes you heard what you heard. LOL
@@robertgrimes7401 wrong I have the official sheet music copyright 1975
"With Your Love" by Jefferson Starship next please!
@@48natureDuly noted and my original post corrected -- thanks!
Miracles is the BEST LOVE SONG ever written and performed, tied only with Air That I Breathe by The Hollies!! Thank you for your awesome reaction!! 😊
I just found your reaction to Air That I Breathe! 😊 That song is tied with Miracles by Jefferson Starship as #1 Love Song ever written and produced!
Loved this song back in 1978 & still love it today!
Released in June 1975 and has been rocking ever since!!
Marty Balin had such a smooth and soothing voice. Two songs he sang when with Jefferson Airplane are as good as this, if not better, but are rarely played, "Today" and "Coming Back To Me'', from the "Surrealistic Pillow" album, getting pushed aside by "White Rabbit'' and Someone To Love". They're both beautiful and haunting.
Always loved this song by Jefferson Starship! check out their song - Count on Me
Checkout Count On Me and Runaway.
I seen them live they were great. I still remember.
They were Jefferson Airplane during Woodstock.
God, this takes me back. Sooooo 70s. Love it more every time I hear it.
GREAT TUNE, YA'LL!! Glad you gave it a LISTEN!!! :) HUGS, YA'LL!!!
A great song by them...one of my favorites...so many memories attached to this one.
Yes, this is my fav JA song....!❤🤗😌

Omg this is my favorite song! In 2005 I got a iPod from hubby. You could see how many times you listened to a song.
This was my #1 most played 1,340 times. I would fall asleep with headphones on repeat, I only had it for a year before sadly it got stolen!
I don't think any one will ever try to redo this song simply because of the number of instruments used, and all the different vocals.
Off the top of my head I know there were at least 3 types of guitars, the regular drums and the Congo drums. They used strings and someone told me once they used a zylophone. Not sure about that, but they also used electric instruments like the violin and piano. The best part is the. Saxophone especially with headphones! I counted the number of times they said baby but i cant remember it now. I had the vinyl record but lost that when my house burned in the wildfire. God my entire record collection was destroyed. sighs....
Best line "you ripple like the river when I touch you," I get goosebumps everytime.
This song had 2 lengths the shorter version was played all over.
Radio, grocery stores, doctors offices, elevators, and even when you were put on hold calling some place. Best song ever!
One of my favorite Jefferson Starship tracks. Everything that Marty Balin sang lead on had an otherworldly, ethereal, even haunting, feel to it, giving one goose bumps. I know "Miracles" does that to me.
I saw them perform this song live, it brought tears to my eyes, beautiful song.
Thank you for reacting to one of my favorite songs of all time!!! Grace Slick and Mary Balin are rock royalty. Priceless!😅 You guys are too funny!
The change in Asia’s face starting @4:39 when she realizes what she just heard😂
Brings back memories of a beautiful loving relationship. Lead male singer of Starship, Marty Balin, was the best. RIP. Thank you. Yes it's definitely an intimate love song.
First time I heard this song, I was a Freshman in HS. Wasnt til years later and heard it again and I was like "oh ... oh...OOOOOh ... Okay 😅
Love😊
One of the single most shameless, and un-abashed love song ever written/produced (right up there with the song, "Shameless" by Garth Brooks).
My favorite ever! Marty & Grace sound like a piece of heaven! Get you in the mood music!! Also like their song With your love
One of the sexiest songs ever recorded!
My favorite song forever i love Jefferson starship listen to runaway
The two sets of ascending and descending notes heard at the beginning of the song were played on a Hammond organ through a Leslie speaker on tremolo speed setting (if that's the sound you were referring to). 🙂
Let's not forget Jane. Love that song!
They already did it...can you tell me why I hardly ever see this wonderful couple!!
I’m 62 and I’ve heard this for decades and I never knew it was them. Must of been all the weed and beer from that time 😵💫😵💫🤣
I'm 49 & also just now learned it was them 😆
Who else listened to this in college and 50 years later still loving it lol
This was my favorite song when I was 8 years old. Being so young I look back in surprise that I was able to appreciate this sensuous, mellow song so much. But I did, so much so that I went to a Jefferson Starship concert for my 9th birthday. It was my first concert ever.
Update:I am excited to report that I just bought tickets to the Marshall Tucker Band with opening act Jefferson Starship. I will see them again 47 years later! I was hoping at least one original member is still with them I checked and yes there is one.

Asia's reaction on the long note he held towards the end with the saxophone kicking in. He got her there lol.
IF ONLY YOU BELIEVE LIKE I BELIEVE, WE’LL GET BY!
Of ALL of the songs done by Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship/Starship I think this is the BEST of them... GREAT SONG!
Another good one is Runaway
Great reaction. I have listened to this song many times, but never took notice of the “taste” lyric until I read the comments. Great night driving song. Great night time anything song. Thanks.
Another GREAT song from the GREATEST ERA IN MUSIC---- The 70's!😅
I love the line " I had a taste of the world when I went down on you girl" !😮
I had a taste of the real world
(just a drop of it)
when I went down on you girl
(don't ever stop it)
It's also the response lines by Grace Slick that help make it great.
"I had a taste of the real world (just a drop of it), then I went down on you girl (never stop it)."
Classic song from Marty Balin and Starship. Listen at 4:40 into this song... Priceless....Marty..,..RIP....
This song is a great distillation of the mid 70’s sound.
I still get goosebumps when I hear this song
It's a great song. The only downside was where my mind wandered when a woman I knew said she had it sung at her wedding....in church...I guess the minister didn't faint from some of the lyrics.
lol you two are so precious you make me smile. Yes I grew up with this song and yes you are correct the song is about making love and the miracle that it feels like to be with his Lady. Thank you for your reaction.
Check out "Runaway"
This song came out when I was first married in 1978. My husband loved this song. We had a tape of this song and played it all the time until it wore out. lol There's just something about it that is kind of mesmerizing. Thanks for doing this one. Hi from NYC. ✌
this and Runaway were two of my favorites! Marty Balin's voice is so amazing!
Had to close my eyes and listen. Where's my time machine???
This song was absolutely huge when it came out, especially in the Bay Area where they are from. Some of the lyrics weren't allowed on AM radio though. The whole album is excellent with some interesting tunes on it.
Oh!!!!! I remember how controversial this song was at the time!!!
I was a 9 or 10 year old when this was on the radio. The lyrics meant nothing, I was all about the music. When I got around 20 and heard it on the radio. Well, I was a bit amazed that this was on the radio, uncut or edited.
That's what great music can do. Possessing O'l boy... ha ha!
Hopefully, they will react to more Starship classics. I love this group. Count On Me next?
I'm newish to watchin reaction videos. Child of 1960 ya know. So we didn't have that...or color tv's or microwaves or well you get it. But to see young people enjoying what me and mine knew was amazing, I love it!
Got a taste of the real world when I went down on you. How that lyric got by the censors I will never know. Tasty line though!
Ohhhh, I've heard this song a few times and never knew who sang it. It's so smooth :)
That's a special song.
This is so of its time but after knowing it for several decades, it's one I definitely return to. It's lasted over time for me, at least.
Incredible musicianship!!!
The lyric video is a must when reacting to this song.
Marty balin was amazing, and I suggest one other song along with the others that have been, but... runaway is his soulful expression too. From the earth, album. Just my small opinion but so smooth
Good love making music.
One of my favorite songs.
Check out No Way Out, Be My Lady, It's Not Enough, and Sara by Starship.
I love Jefferson starship, I love the music. Back in the day I danced around in my bedroom at night when I played this song!
Band started as Jefferson Airplane (Woodstock festival) and split later in Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship. Grace Slick was welknown from her songs White Rabbit" and "Somebody to Love". Both bands are good on their own way. Thank you for this song. Brings back memories.
High school, 1975. The highs and lows of my first love. Never felt so alive.
LOVE!! This has always been a fave of mine! So happy y`all played this!
Whole Red Octopus Album is really good. American was going through some times back then to be sure. Civil Rights Movement, Woodstock, Vietnam. Hippies, Rioting, Space Race and more. A great deal of incredible music came out during those times.
If you liked this song you should out another one by them called "Runaway."
Quite simply, one of the most erotic songs ever recorded. Marty's soaring vocal on this is one of a kind, and the vocal interplay is just great. This was their first album as Jefferson Starship and they wouldn't come close to this song, and as Starship it would get much worse. AM radio chopped about 3-4 minutes from this song which was downright criminal. Great upload.
YES! This is THE love song.
Released in June of 1975
One of my favorites.
"Sliding it in there" made me laugh.
Yeah that's it.
I guess Christmas 1975, we got this album as a gift. From thev very first listening, I loved this song "Mircales" so so much, the entire album was a masterpiece IMHO.
It crazy that this song review has so little views. Then the same day you review Tom’s Facts and that had tons more views. This song is crazy good- instant classic for you and the significant other to boogie down too. Shows how the music has changed over the years., and what’s missing from today’s music. Imo, love y’all’s channel ❤❤❤❤
Pretty amazing how this sounds more like an R & B Motown classic than a slick California production. Just a really great song.
Saw them in concert with Night Ranger. Great show.
You should have done the lyrics video. There were some things said that would have made you take notice
Love this tune. That electric piano and sax and guitar. That voice and the somewhat intricate and interesting background vocals. Great tune and yes I bet a LOT of children were conceived while this song played😛😛🙏
Not one of my favorites but my wife likes it. I like "Count On Me" and "Run Away"
