    I attended the Adelaide GP (Australia) back in the mid 80's when it was the very last race on the calendar year. At the end of the race, after the podium ceremony in the pit lane, I saw fans walk away with damaged spoilers, old turbos, and one even with an entire damaged wheel & tyre. The team pit crews used to literally toss old or damaged parts into the crowd rather than pack them and ship them all the way back to Europe. Wish I had thought to grab something back then. :)

    Why doesn't anybody sell fragments and small parts after a collision? Having a piece of that tire that blew up and ruined that driver's championship, or any piece of carbon from a very famous accident (provided all drivers were ok ..) is quite an attraction, with all due respects to parts from winning cars or parts that were just used once in practice...

    • @mattamys
      @mattamys  Před rokem +2

      Most of the time the broken parts will go back to the teams factories to be analysed, but for small parts to be sold is again is more unnecessary work for the teams. They'll have to repair it as they can't be selling broken parts as that could hurt the buyer, and for such a small part it isn't worth it finically - but also the main point, they don't have to do any of this so they don't bother!

    • @HappySmiley23
      @HappySmiley23 Před rokem

      I'd like to believe there's a market for crash memorabilia, as buyers know exactly where their part came from, how it affected the championship, and most likely have those historical accidents on video.... but sadly I agree that if nobody has to do it - nobody will.
      Whilst I fantasize in a CZcams comment, why not though? A crashed part isn't very different from any other... All parts return to the teams after each session (attached to the car or not) and are worked as needed until at some point some parts get processed to be delivered to F1 Authentics. No logistical differences that I can see... However a crashed part is identifiable and more meaningful therefore worth more.
      If F1 Authentics then invest energy and time cutting and selling 2" squares bodywork from some random FP1, not to.mention the TLC they give other parts with no known source like disk breaks, well IMHO they can make more money from any piece of the car or tire which has a well known, crucial and impactful heritage... And I would've loved to buy one 💥🏎️🤑

An obsolete steering wheel, for instance, could be sold for a small fortune (btw, what happens to old steering units?) And here is an idea for old F1 noses and front wings: have a base jumper use one upside-down when jumping from a cliff with a parachute strapped to her or his back; I'd be very curious to know how much lift a front wing of a F1 car has when positioned upside-down!
