This song was a hit then,ln 1986 it was played all over drinking joints on repeat of course,my uncle loved him to hell.Rest in peace Franco your music still lains
Franco is a treasure for the entire contient of Africa, not just Zaire. I hope his work is preserved for future generations to enjoy. He is true artist and remarkable man. One the rare artist who kept total artistic control over his works. He never let trends influence his music for short term popularity. He had integrity and clear mind about his vision.
Franco.... le grand maitre. the only time in his entire life my father attended a concert in Cameroon was when Franco came by. Of course I since started to love this `big` man...
Me and you both. Thats real music. I just heard it in a African Cab and it reminded me of when I was a kid mom use to play this song. He gave me the CD to put it on my Ipod. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I love it.
I discovered this song only in 1999 when a Congolese friend played it endlessly. I only managed to get the cd in 2007. Its the first time i see one of the videos. Its a beautiful song i love it
Nothing compares to you!!!!!!!i were a little girl when my parents used to listen TP ok jazz's songs and i' still love it. No one else make music like them...:(
That's so cool - after all the hundreds of times I've enjoyed this song I had not idea what it was about (although I did hear in there something about a Mercedes........). Now I know. Thanks!
Rahndi.Hallians is where the legendary Mangelepa ended its secular music appearance. I used to meet Bwamy wa Lumona here. Besides life performance (Les Mangelepa) Hallians used to have a Congolese music disco: It was either Franco or Tabu Ley. Period.
You are lucky to have lived there at that time. That must be the "Nairobi Nights" that are so romantically described. Loss of that environment and relationships must be difficult. My first exposure to any music that excited me was Super Mazembe. I recorded "Shauri Yako" off the radio and played over and over. Took me years to find their recordings. I admit I don't know Les Mangelepa but I am starting read about their importance in that history. Thanks again for enlightening me.
Super Mazembe are known for Shauri Yako of course. But we should also remember them for very good and popular hits they produced in the 1970s (Shida and Samba- with Samba Mapangala, South View etc) . Please try to listen to the original Shauri Yako producd by Nguashi Ntimbo. And this original actually sounds better for me than the remakes by either Super Mazembe or Mbilia Bel.
It depends on when you started getting acquainted with Nairobi night life. In the mid 1980s (during my time) when Nairobi was still a fairly clean and safe city, University students used to frequent Hallians Night Club-Florida was too expensive and Carnivore too far from the Halls of residence.
Rahndi, I went with so many friends to Hallians. Sadly most of them have passed on. Victims of the big killer Close to Hallians we used to have a very good music shop called Assanans. I mean Hallians on Nairobi's Tom Mboya Street. Please visit Google for details.
@kimgloriana i second that, this reminds me of being a little boy just moved to london in 1985 and my parents playing this song all the time,,,,what good memories
huwezi kufananisha franco na mwanamziki yeyote afrika. did moreno lead a 20+ band that had hit records - africawide for three decades, did he spawn talent like madilu, bana ok, litumba simaro and countless others ?. do anyone outside kakamega know who moreno batamba was ? who is searching for moreno's lost records - maybe just me (n probably you) Unatukana legacy ya Luambo. Do you have any moreno ? post it
Hi all TPOK fans. Anybody can tell me the song " ILUNGA YA CHERRY" if not mistaken was a big hit in ealry 80, what is the tittle? I'm badly looking for it. Thanx in advance.
2:13 whoa that is not the kind of demographic audience i'd expect for this kind of music lol. I guess good taste is good taste no matter what race you are :)
Somebody please tell me what makambo means I have hundreds of congolese music but only the swahili ones That I knw whta they are saying. Please make my day.
tres impoli translates to - very rude. I also wish i know what he's singing about , but that do not stop me from enjoying my 200+ tpok , franco songs. there is close to 20 albums on itunes 4 download, and real cds on amazon. emusic too got lots of franco. buy one at a time its more fan
