- All music by me.
If you are interested in building this guitar, the files are available here:drive.google.com/drive/folder...
PLEASE READ THE README BEFORE BUILDING!
This guitar took about 60 hours of print and another 10 to 15 hours of manual labor.
The hardware kit I used: www.solomusicgear.com/product...
The neck: www.solomusicgear.com/product...
Strat template: www.etsy.com/ca/listing/12350...
Pick guard template: www.etsy.com/ca/listing/10348... - Hudba
I have sent this video to Gibson so that they can explain to me the nature of this tonewood.
Well PLA is made from corn so there is some plant-based affinity 🤔🤔
Some final thoughts on the build:
- Overall, I'm quite satisfied with the build, I love the colour scheme and the contrast with the pick guard.
- The process was quite fun overall, not a lot of hiccups apart from pieces that I had to reprint due to poor measurements.
- The hardware is pretty cheap, so I didn't think it was worth mentioning.
- The guitar has slight intonation problems, mostly due to the fact that the bridge is a few mms too close to the neck.
This is such a nice, well executed concept ! Congrats
it looks fantastic
Excellent work, it is admirable to see that it turned out so pretty, congratulations.
Thank you! Glad you like it
Super cool! What a neat idea for a guitar :)
Thank you! Glad you liked it!
This is awesome! And it’s able to be printed on a mini printer as well which always a bonus.
You could do it on an Ender 2!
It looks and sounds pretty good.
Thanks! It's a bit out of tune but it works pretty nicely
Thanks bro, nice design
Thanks! Glad you like it
Awesome
Glad you like it!
wow, that is super twangy, I love it!
Thank you!!
@@xavierdumont I guess I've gotta fire my 3d printer up 😔, be back in 10 years I guess
@@skarloeyexpress4353 what printer do you have?
@@xavierdumont Adventurer 3, nothing huge 😅
So cool. Lego guitar. Next, make a light saber.
god
Great design! Way to lean into the 3d printing aspect, and not try to hide it!
Thanks! I love the 3D printed look, it adds a lot of personality
Fantastic. There's nothing about this I didn't like.
Thank you so much!! I'm really happy you enjoyed it
“You wouldn’t download a guitar” they said.
Lmao at running low on guitars intro.😂❤
It's a never-ending state 😂
Absolutely love this! Do you happen to have the 3D-Models on anywhere to download? Anyways, looks sick!
Thank you! I will try to make the files available soon!
This is amazing - I'm going to get started this weekend! Could you let me know where you sourced the parts you had to buy? I looked on eBay & there seem to be several variations, so I want to make sure I get parts that will fit.
Hi Ray. This is the kit I used: www.solomusicgear.com/product/solo-strat-style-hardware-pack-black/
For the neck, any strat-style neck will do, so long as the scale is 25.5, but I used this: www.solomusicgear.com/product/solo-st-style-guitar-neck-maple-rosewood-fb/
@@xavierdumont Awesome - thank you so much!!
Lovely. I am interested in how you made a jigsaw pattern on the template. Is there a tool in CAD that has this feature, thanks and regards
Thanks! I forgot to mention it in the video but I just drew it all by hand. I started with the template, then added concentric perimeters inside the template's outline. Then, divided that into smaller puzzle sections. Lastly, I added the "tabs" for each puzzle piece. After that I just tweaked the shapes a bit.
@@xavierdumont Ok, and thanks
That is beyond awesome! Really cool design. How far off did the intonation end up?
About 20 cents off at worse. Definitely an easy fix for next time
@@xavierdumont you could just adjust the saddle position
@@jimthethirdprobably do you think a 3D printed neck and fretboard is possible?
@@maspesasmasperras5554 if you put a truss rod and some steel or carbon fibre in the neck then yes, i think it would be possible
I like it... when are you 3d printing the neck
I haven't tried yet but some day maybe!
Has the guitar warped at all since this build
I haven't kept the tension on so it's hard to say
Wow,, that is cool... are the pieces hollow or solid?? how heavy is it?? thanks for the stl...
Thanks! The pieces are semi-hollow, depending on where they are on the guitar. Pieces closer to the neck and bridge have more infill.
Overall it's about as heavy as any regular guitar, maybe a tad more.
@@xavierdumont tyvm... great job...
Are you planning to redesign the body to reduce the intonation ??
I don't have any plans for that in the near future, unfortunately!
Question, can I used 22 fret fit on this design?
Good question, it's hard to say exactly if it will work since the scale length has to be somewhat precise. The guitar already has intonation issues, this may or may not fix them. So, truthfully, I don't know.
so after a year or so how has the guitar held up?
Actually pretty good, the interlocking pieces really help with stability. With the pixel guitar, the glue had started to fail in some spots (mostly because I didn't put enough) but with this one, there are no visible gaps
I’m sure it would sound better if it was in tune :/
Live and learn!
Мне кажется или гитара не строит?
What is that glue ?
It's called 3D gloop, it basically melts the plastic and fuses it
@@xavierdumont Thanks. Do you like it better than just using super glue on PLA parts? Super glue holds really well but the problem is you get about half a second to place it and if you put it in the wrong spot well you’re just out of luck.
I like it more, I find it holds much better, but the set time is super quick so you have to be careful. Also it's not as liquid and doesn't spread around so much so you can be more precise with it.
@@xavierdumont Nice. Appreciate the info. I’m going to give it a try. Your guitar project was very well done by the way. I am working toward projects of that level of complexity and am probably just a few months away from going for it. Today I designed and printed a custom luggage tag for my Sister’s Christmas present and it came out really well.
