    • @seanmadson8524
      @seanmadson8524 Před 5 dny +2

      The excuse that most people have for not squatting like this is that most people can't comfortably cram the front of their feet strait up toward their shin very far. It takes years of stretching to achieve what you do.
      My father could do this because he was raised by my half Chinese grandfather, and he picked up the habit young from watching my grandpa. My father didn't raise me tho, so when we hung out as adults, I was completely incapable of such a squat, my feet just don't physically go that far in that direction.
      I can, however, support my weight on just the fronts of my feet for hours, standing and walking in the way known as digitigrade, like a dog foot. This is something my father was incapable of doing for more than a few minutes at most, because the muscles and tendons in his calves were not trained from childhood to do so like mine were.
      In summation, when you gain joint mobility in one way, you tend to lose it in the opposing way, unless you are some kind of contortionist.

    • @heyjarrod
      @heyjarrod Před 5 dny +2

      @@seanmadson8524 Yes, it’s all a moot point. There’s no reason for any adult to be able to get into that position; even very few athletes. That much hyperflexion at the knee, results in a contraindicative dislocating action happening at the joint. This also causes undo stress on the ligaments-the primary stabilizers.
      Ligaments are a little bit like gum, when stretched, they do not snap back. Very little elasticity. With this deep of a squat, the ligaments are being stretched, causing misalignment to the bones, leading to possible joint pain/arthritis and instability.
      There are no benefits to performing this movement, unless it somehow fits your lifestyle or sport.

    • @heyjarrod
      @heyjarrod Před 5 dny +1

      The human body can get into various contraindicated positions. That does not mean it benefits us to do so-unless it is part of our necessary daily activities.
      But no reason for an adult to do any type of hyperextension/flexion, as necessary to get into this position. So, why do this movement? There are plenty of exercises that are beneficial and safe, and much better than this movement anyway.

    I respected this man so much, but I must say, after living all over Asia, I all I saw was grown adults all the way up ton80 years old still squatting deep while performing tasks like cooking and smoking while gambling on the street etc. Remember I got more used to it because I used to hang out with them and got used to squatting deeper for longer periods as well. It also has to do with ankle and hip flexibility too. The reason some people cant, as adults, is cultural: they sit in chairs all the time. It's also called the "Asian squat" because a lot of Asian groups do it and that's what white people saw, but you'll find it in Africa, Latin America, Russia; people do the deep squat pretty much everywhere if they don't sit in chairs all the time.

Of course there's some flexibility involved, but even the most flexible long-legged,short-torso person can't balance in that type of squat. The squat has to be modified or a counterweight or support needs to be added to move the horizontal component of the center of mass over the feet instead of behind it. Bone structure does effect biomechanics, and babies do have hilariously big noggins, but I've never met a person with good flexibility in their hips and ankles who had problems sitting comfortably in a deep squat. I'm not saying they don't exist, some people have very unusual bones, but an overwhelming majority of the time the issue is flexibility, and usually either the hips or the ankles or both are the culprit when it comes to squatting.

    Babies also don’t have kneecaps btw. They have cartilage there that starts developing into bone between the ages of 2 to 6 years old and continues until around the ages of 10 to 12. That’s why young children are so flexible and able to crawl on their knees like that. They squat so much better than adults because they’re working with completely different equipment. It’s really not a fair comparison.
