I’ve watched enough Dr. Phil to know it happens to men and women equally. If you’re a fat, bald, 65 year old guy and a gorgeous model from the Philippines or Russia is madly in love with you, she’s not real. If you’re a homely old lady and a 50 year old General,of the Army or oil rig worker who looks like Brad Pitt is in love with you, he’s not real. He’s a once poor Nigerian, now rich because you’re not the only one he’s scamming. Where do people get the nerve to even think these people are real and could be in love with them? Could I throw 25 years of marriage away if my husband spent our life savings on an online scam? You betcha.

He didn’t have any recourse or advise for when they may be elderly, retired and also - crucially - not of sound mind as they would have been had they both been 40 or 50. It’s quite possible they both have EO dementia or cerebral degeneration. He just didn’t have any guru advice to apply there. Or ask if she’s safe..
