  • Emma Willis Delivering Babies Returns! However, now a fully qualified Maternity Care Assistant, we follow Emma as she tells the stories of families whose birthing plans were thrown up in the air by lockdown in the UK throughout 2020. Emma gets to know them remotely before asking the families to turn the camera on themselves and film their pregnancies and births. Once lockdown restrictions are eased, Emma meets some of the families in person to see how they're getting on.
In this series opener, we meet Chris and Takkies, who recently moved to the UK from South Africa. Takkies is finding pregnancy in lockdown difficult away from her family. In East Sussex, Jay faces a race against time to be at Katie's side for the birth of their child.

My now 3 year-old was born May 18th, 2020. I couldn't get any prenatal care with him because the only office nearby that accepted my insurance, never answered their phone. A month later I moved within walking distance of that office. Went there and the lights were out and boxes piled in front of the door. It was my 3rd baby, so I knew what vitamins to take, etc. I paid for 2 scans and had everything checked out at 3 months when I got Covid before it was well-known here.

So so glad to see the show return!! Spotlighting the stories of mums giving birth during the beginning of the pandemic is so important, for posterity and for us to be reminded of what we’ve been so blessed to survive through💪🏽🙌🏽

Oh so much fun to see another Emma Willes series. Sad for these women who had their baby during covid though.
I had my youngest aswel during covid but luckily my family lives very close by. I had a home birth and we invited only the grandparents over with masks. And other family could look through the window. So strange to think about, luckily it was end of covid (January 2021) and my family only went to work and minimized social contacts so we pretty quickly could just invite them over to enjoy the youngest addition without all the stupid covid ristrictions.

God help anyone in the room telling me my husband can't be there with me while I labor. It's not their fault, however, I know how I am in pain. Bless the nurses and staff that worked during the pandemic delivering these lovely little bundles of joy.

I was very lucky when I gave birth at the very end of 2019. Our area had no idea about Covid so we went on as normal. My smaller town just went on with life just washing hands more and being more careful. Thankfully I know no one personally who got Covid out of so many people. I cant imagine being in an area that was hit hard by it. It still seeks foreign besides we wore masks in doctors offices/hospitals for a little.

I had my baby at home in 2020. Husband, sisters, niece were there. All my family came to visit in the days after bringing us food and meals. Best decision for that year. My brother’s girlfriend had a baby a year later and my brother was kicked out of the room the day after.

Ridiculous how healthcare completely removed the support system for those being treated medically.
I fell victim to this. Went for my 12 week check up. Baby didn’t have a heartbeat. I was alone. My husband at home. My doctor was an hour drive from my house. I had to drive myself home crying hysterically. After the ultra sound tech discovered the baby no longer had a heartbeat. She didn’t even touch me to offer any form of support or sympathy and I had known this woman for about 6 years from previous pregnancies. I struggle with PTSD from the experience. To make matters worse. The medication they gave me to help induce the miscarriage when I got home, worked like it was supposed to, my body cleared everything out within a matter of about 6 hours. Or so I thought. Almost 2 hours after I began to hemorrhage. Rushed to hospital by ambulance, completely unconscious and unaware of what was happening, my husband drove behind and when he got to the ER they refused to allow him in. I was dying. He was my only advocate. The doctor wanted to transfer an hour out to the hospital where my doctor was. My hemoglobin was a 7 at that point. They let me lay bleeding and going in and out of consciousness instead of calling the OB on call at the hospital that was closest to my home where the ambulance took me. The chaplain went to the parking lot g lot and found my husband and brought him in to my room during shift change. The new doctor came in just as my vitals began to plummet. He was furious that I hadn’t had a blood transfusion and that the OB had not been contacted. By this point my hemoglobin was at 4 and. They started pushing blood through and called the OB on call like my husband had begged them to do for hours. The OB had me in the OR and had the D&C done within 30 minutes of the shift change. When he came to see me the next morning he suggested I submit a formal complaint and that he was submitting my chart/case for review. He told me if there hadn’t been shift change and the new doctor actually realized the urgency that I likely would have died. I had lost too much blood and was still losing it.
Had the chaplain not realized that I was in really bad shape and gotten my husband. I wouldn’t have had anyone to speak for me. My husband advocated for me because I couldn’t. I was dying. I have very little memory of what was happening, but my husband remembers it very well. Because of Covid. They had justified denying my advocate, My support,My husband entry because of covid.

I am so sorry for your experience and I thank God that the chaplain was there to help advocate for you. That is absolutely outrageous and no one should ever be treated that way. I hope you find solace and are able to process that trauma ❤

My sons were born in 1968 and 1970, absolutely no thought of any woman’s husband attending appointments or for being there for the birth…no, it didn’t seem hard or upsetting, just what we expected and accepted. Sad to see today’s parents finding it so hard, when you know what you’re missing.

Yep, was a crazy time. I had my first baby in November 2020 and the pregnancy itself was actually quite nice… I could completely envelop myself in the experience in a very private way.. Tye one thing I really struggled with was my partner not being able to join in any of the appointments or scans.. I didn’t feel that was right as the father is the farmer, they should be there… It was after
After having the baby was really really hard part… I so w aged to share my baby with my friends and family and have people come and sit on the bed with me and a cup of tea and just have that company.
My uncle never got to hold him and then passed away.
Yeh… we parents in the covid time definitely missed out on a lot.
