Hello charles im early
The vibraphone girl blew me away. That was really good
Felt very jazz inspired and was very very good
I don't even know her...
She's a drum corps level musician for sure
She deserved a bigger tip
Lets go, ans subscribe on her channel. I already did!

such a great words
Wise words!
Beedledeedleboodledoodlebuddhalaboodala boop! Jazz.
he is speaking the language of gods
The vibe girl had some really tight jazz scales. It's really hard to walk that line between being too safe and so crazy that it's unlistenable. For me, she absolutely nailed that balance. Great rhythm, great level of adventurousness with the notes.
Totaly agree. I immediately noticed these crazy scales as well.
I was impressed by Alice on the Harp. That's quite difficult of an instrument to rock out on and she nailed it.
Yes ! Alice is underrated! Very battlish!
As in "she played it with her nails"?
I know, I know... heh, she was pretty good yep.
She was my favorite. 🙂
In appatzingan they do banger corridos on harp.
I felt he was off with her- way too hard on the harp
isnt anybody gonna appreciate the fact that Charles is helping out small musicians ??
Way to go Charles!!
Yeah Davie504 needs all the help he can get now he's playing the picolo bass
@@Hairyfoot_Studio very sad times
@@samjeon52 NOT epical.
It's just great! Like pewdiepie helped davie to get attention, then Davie helped Charles and then they together helped Hermal Li and other unknown musicians!
@@vesas5214 Herman Li is unknown, lol
the vibraphonist has her own channel called "Walbridge, Morgan" - love her music!
^ ^ ^ B U M P !!! ^ ^ ^
@@vibecat4899 mega bump!
Thank you!
Going there now to see if she has battle videos!
Subscribed.
Vibraphone girl was incredible. 6-string picolo was really good too. Harp wasn't quite in time but I've never seen someone rock out so hard on a f'ing harp so she gets major points for that.
DUDE!! YOUR PRODUCT PLACEMENT! THANK YOU!! Ohh my GOD I wish y’all understood how awesome it is when a creator actually takes his freedom as a creator to CREATE an ad as opposed to read a script or insert other companies ads throughout their video. Fuuuck that man, im not done with this whole video yet but, yea. I really appreciate the work you put into your (their(?)) paid promotion. Always original and pure genuine love going into every video. It shows, bruthaguy! Keep up the great work
That was the best sponsored segment ever.
I agree and people are still probably gonna skip it
@@the_sockdolager Probably, but then most of Charles' viewers probably either don't know or don't care about VPNs.
I was just about to skip it, then I saw Charles playing the bass in the thumbnail. I rewinded and watched the whole thing! Best ad integration in a youtube video ever!
I was thinking the same thing
I guess you don't know Big Money Salvia
He didn't want to do that, hes cursed.
I second this.
I know right!

Bagpipes really impressed me, I didn't think it could jam along without over-powering.
i really like the rabab guy! this series is awesome. i really like that you also introduce other instrument to the bass community and bring all kind of musicians together.
The vibraphone lady ... she deserves the win by far, not because she was better, but the fact that she charged only 16 dollars for the greatest guest solo of all time proves how wonderful her soul must be ! She really must add a zero at the end of her figure, 160$ at least for one performance like this is a steal !
The smoke on the water got me dead on Davies part 😂😂😂
Me too, but what else would fit as well, when you really think about it, since it's apparently the song that will get you kicked out of ANY guitar store. I did see one guy playing a version that was scaled up from the original several X, and it was pretty darned good, can't remember his name offhand, but maybe one of the candyrat guys.
@@MrJdsenior not the only song that gets you kicked out, ever heard of stairway to heaven?
@@marshall_hernandez Yes, I have. LOL And it seems the joke is also that most every beginning guitar student wants to make that one of the first, if not THE first song they learn.
I saw one teacher say he told his student that was NOT the way to learn guitar. He said the student totally gave up the instrument in a few months and had gotten virtually none of the song either learned correctly or memorized. Some people are their own worst enemies.
I've also seen at least one YT vid spoofing that old saw. It was quite funny, as I remember. One salesman in the vid said something like "don't do that, seriously, I mean STOP that". The guy in the vid playing "that guy" kept trying to put all kinds of different spin on it when they'd shush him, IIRC. It was well done.
@@MrJdsenior it wasn’t the first song I learned lmao, But the 5th song 😂
@@marshall_hernandez Oops, I stepped in that one, didn't I? ;-) LOL To be fair, it is a REALLY great song. I remember when it came out and I very much enjoyed it as one of my (not hugely large list of) favorites. There was SO much good music coming out about that time frame. When you had the likes of Steely Dan, Queen, etc. it was a good time for music, with new offerings almost every day, it seemed.
I wish someone could come up with an easy name for a "6-string short-scaled piccolo bass". :D
6ssspb (pronounced as segx) is a fantastic instrument.
Hex-piccolobas?
only well known instruments get their own easy names, its not like you’re gonna be referring to a 6-string short-scaled piccolo bass very often. works just fine.
It’s a 6 string guitar.
3:00 So.... are we not gonna talk about how he sped his video up and also did a bad job of it?
Yeah that's shitty
I was actually going to say the same thing
I was looking for this comment. Originally I was thinking Charles hadn't noticed, and that would have been weird since it's so obvious, but now I think he was just being polite by abstaining from dragging him on the internet. That's some British aplomb right there
@@lancebenson4891 Yes but playing an instrument isn't easy
@@ozenonneonade1733 I see your point, but when you're a professional offering services for money, you better be honest about your output. Play slower if you must, speeding up the track is just a cheap trick that also makes the end result sound worse.
That's BizzaroDavie504; he got electrocuted and now he's a bitter guitar player..
Definitely the vibraphone girl. In fact, I need to learn those phrases. And was really nice the meeting you had with her, I wish it had more.
OMFG the HARP! THat was insanely amazing! Did not know a harp could somehow sound funky!
I think Charles didn't realize how hard it must have been for her: that's not the kind of music you play with a harp. And in general I think it is very hard to improvise on a harp.
The vibraphone girl's tone + Charles's bass = chase music for a TV show
3:01 - Looks a lot like this guy recorded the video at a slower speed, then sped it up. 😕
Yeah, pretty lame 😑
Might just be his frame rate or something. It would be difficult to do that and play with the right rhythm.
Inhuman downstrokes on that one
@@NwoDispatcher I used to be an incredibly fast pianist. Like....? That's not "inhuman".
The recording looks really jittery...but I hate to accuse unless it's obvious.
@@MAMelby moving fingers is alot different than an arm or flicking a wrist
Davie 504. Playing with a pick. Charles, this is a truly extreme example of disrespect.
also on guitar
He went to the dark side
ever since Davie started saying that playing with a pick is fine, I've been thinking he was replaced with someone else. this just adds to my theory.... #freeDavie
Pick is legal now
That's the disrespectful thing you saw lol
I would LOVE if you did another video like this, this is insanely good.
3:49 sounds so nice!!! The vibraphone girl and this rabab guy were the best imo, but all sounded really neat.
Normally I skip sponsor segments but this one was pretty good.
I wanted to hear what a VPN through Australia sounds like! Maybe Charles could play one of those long hollow bass tubes next...
czcams.com/video/X4vNvz_XX_s/video.html
I do love how David is keeping the electrocuted into guitar narrative going on all timelines lol
I guess it's canon.
All the musicians were so much fun. What a range of tonality, so enjoyable to hear multiple cultures in one video! Thanks Charles!
7:19 charles talking about licks throughtout the entire video, while Davie here playing THE lick
Totally in awe of that vibraphonist. That was incredible, especially for the price she was charging. Could’ve (and probably should’ve) been much more expensive.
Cause vibraphonist are in such high demand
Vibraphone is such an underappreciated instrument and this is the best playing I've seen since Animusic stopped releasing music. She's awesome, and I hope she gets to drastically increase her price from this.
Have you ever heard Gary Burton? Vibes totally rock!
Aw, man... you need to team up with Morgan on the vibraphone again. That sounded like some sweet jazz funk.
I'm not a musician nor have I ever played an instrument, although I do really like the bass videos, I absolutely lost it at 6-string short-scale piccolo bass
Nooo, Davie is cursed. He angered the bass gods and got electrocuted and when he woke up, he couldn't play bass anymore.
He has turned to the dark side.
But he IS the bass god! If we think about this literally, he has power to do whatever he desires with infinite power and the holy slap in his arsenal. He can bend the laws of bass, and is the only person capable of breaking the law, because he IS the law.
He has angered the gods of slap and has been stripped of his powers!
I don't think he woke up...he's in a coma and this is just all part of a bad dream he's having. We're not actually here...
Hey man, you and Davie have quite the strong, and quite funny, rivalry! I wish the best on that Bass endeavor!
This was great, bringing in other musicians, giving them exposure. I especially liked that you kept your review of their work positive and constructive. In a public forum like CZcams it’s always important to support each each other. That being said, WHERE THE HELL DO YOU GET OFF DROPPING THE LAPUTA THEM TO REPRESENT JAPAN IN THE MIDDLE OF A NORD VPN PROMO DUDE? I’m not emotionally ready for that level of nostalgia!!
I love these challenge series cus it really keeps these guys on their toes and creates some inspiration for future projects im sure.
I love how Charles help small musician youtubers like Davie504. I hope Davie gets more subscribers from now on.
Yet David has like 69x more subs
Davie is a god. Charles is just a single finger of him.
@JEZREEL DIONESIO Yea we should stop bullying disabled people
Lmao... Epic comment.
Don't know if these guys (the one that didn't get the f🤬🤬king joke) are just an idiot for not knowing that this is a joke or they are just a fart head

The first one indeed was the best. It really made me wonder how much potential was in the more expensive entries but setting the bar high the first time did not do the rest any favors.
I liked before the tip at the end but my god I wish I could like this twice. Thanks for being an inspiration Charles. Keep it up man, glad to have found your channel.
4:18 YES! Now I really need a full bass cover of One Summer's Day! That was incredibly good
You made me watch the whole sponsership because of the bass playing
Oh my, the backpipe together with the bass was so nice. Definitively would buy the album.
Bagpipes was my vote for best of show also!
Great vibes - absolutely loved it, not a huge bagpipe fan but he did them great, tanbur didn't excite me, rabab had something I couldn't put my finger on but enjoyed, I enjoyed the harpist's commitment to the cause, piccolo bass smashed it. Vibes were my favourite too in honesty
The vibraphone was the best, in my opinion. She did a stellar job with it, and it sounded incredible.
The Afghan Rabab was easily my favorite there. That dude rocked!
I totally agree with you. Ruben Monteiro was great!
Good call on the Tip. She was my favorite too. I only wish I hadn't been out of town with no internet to see this when it originally came out. Keep up the good work Charles. You need to make Davie cry.
Bro thanks for ur passion for bass and the urge to help others grow musically
As a fellow short scale 6 string piccolo bassist I was highly impressed by the pro (especially that tapping lick he started with). The vibes were great (and deserving of the tip), but I think the most interesting was the harp, even if the execution wasn't tight enough.
Man, your bass and composition skills are amazing, i love how you can compose and improvvise those licks!
Greetings from Italy!🇮🇹
Alice on Harp was my favourite, I’ve always loved playing instruments in an unorthodox manner, great job to all!!!
Bro u are the best bassist!!.. Just be friendly like u are.
Dont be like all other in this times ( mad, rude and bad)
U are man with good soul and be like that always. Nobody cant even be close to u in terms of playing instruments so show that davie and all others that music is not war.. Music is life !
Cheers bro.. And i hope that u will live long long long long time and secure time with good music and love in music and real playing.
P.s. sry couse week english
I would commit war crimes just to have an extended version of Charles' impossible bassline. That is some of the most incredible stuff to have ever graced my ears
You should listen to his celestial tuning song.
@@ElValuador believe me when I say, I have listened to it so many damn times 😂
Yes I played it on repeat many times!
Finally someone who has made a sponsorship deal worth watching lmao usually I'd skip such parts
The afghan rabab guy was my favorite for some reason it sounded amazing
That’s really cool how you know the spirit away main theme song. Thank you for playing it!
Davie is just sad that he is cursed with guitar playing only 🥺
Shouldn't have banned Herman from twitch
5:39 soooo that's how you pronounce your last name! I was butchering in all this time, sorry bro :) Great video as always, I really liked the vibraphone, never thought it could rock that much!
Don’t believe him! Jack Black told us how he’s pronounced!
Considering the spelling and the pronunciation, it looks like French... Which is unsurprising considering UK and France shared history
@@DaimonasSupremi Yes, ’t is french, or rather a name from french switzerland. So the correct pronunciation would be somewhat Sharl Berthoo.
@@TheVoitel oh ! Donc Charles vient de la Suisse romande ou uniquement le nom de famille ?
@@DaimonasSupremi Don’t think Charles comes from Switzerland, but the name Berthoud is very much Swiss based. They even have city called Berthoud in french (apparently the name comes from the name Berthold).
But the name comes definitely from that region. It is mostly found in the french part of Switzerland, Rhône-Alpes, Piemonte and Liguria and somewhat in Lombardia.
I like how you and davie collaborates and make interesting “competition” (if it really is 😂) that was generous both of you. Davie didn’t do well so you could take him off the list of who will receive a tip. You have helped the first artist. It’s encouraging
Hey man no joke, nice work on your nord plug. I normally skip over those in ppls vids but you actually made it cool to watch an ad!
You should go to Davie504 house and give him the holy slap so he can remember how to b A S S
You always see harp players play gently, but she smashed that thing. Very cool.
I love this, feels like the soundtrack to some music rpg duel where the mc duels people from around the world!
...wait is that what this is?
The contrast between bass and all instruments was cool. Better than regular (read: a bit boring) bass vs bass batles. Keep em coming :)
WOW CHARLES! You played One Summer’s Day by Joe Hisaishi, one of my favourite pieces! Please make a video on you just playing it, that would be so awesome!!
He's one of my favourite composers 😊
I freaking loved that song being played, you earned it, I'm subscribing🤣
I listened to it and came running to the comment section to see if someone noticed... cuz I didn't know the name of the composer just listened to it back when spirited away came out, nostalgia hit me like a meteor
Charles must battle Davie so he can free Davie from the curse. That would be the ultimate friendship story.
I'm pretty sure the curse was Davie's cosmic punishment for not being as Pro as he was supposed to be.
I read that in Davies voice lol
This is such a cool concept. Please do more!
DEFINITELY do this again! Brilliant.
I argued with someone forever that guitars are short-scale 6 string piccolo basses. I’m glad you agree with me.
"It's actually me, Charles" - that broke me
Allo Allo reference? :)
Really like these vids Charles. The vibe was great!!
Wow wtf, the way he embraced the ads is simply amazing..
Yes

I loved all of the battles. It’s like a battle royal version of the famous sax battle.
found you through dead wax and died laughing when you showed up on davie's channel.
as a percussionist who started on guitar, my love and respect for bass has been cultivated for years.
but you guys are the reason my right hand digits have a lot more callouses on deck so thanks!~
I really enjoyed that vibraphone one and now need more vibe music in my life
While all non-Guitar Davie entries were amazing, the vibraphone girl definitely deserved the win. Not only she had some really cool phrasing, but the instrument also sounded amazing in conjunction with those bass melodies. Awesome video and I'm glad to see musicians supporting musicians in these trying times, kudos!
Charles is so nice. Just praising everyone
That's insane PURE talent! God level bro!
That was probably the greatest sponsorship ad I've ever seen.
Davie's actually with amnesia after he's shocked in the pool. He takes the character very seriously. lol
Excellent vibes!!! Great video premise too!
Enjoying the battle and DUDE I LOVE YOUR ADS!!
The vibraphone girl was miles above any other musician! And wow, the 6-strings piccolo bass guitar player sounded so generic to me
Like how Charles was playing funk but she played bebop jazz
Charles, those musicians were amazing!!....forgive Davie he has a curse that he cant play bass anymore, help him!

About that last Davie504 challenge, the one Davie504 said was really hard. I think I've listened to that solo about 20 times at least now maybe more. I would love to see what the full song sounds like. It's one of the best baseline solos I've listened to, it has such a nice melody. That one you wrote for your fiancee was pretty nice though too.
