- Welcome back to another AI 3d Printing video. In this video I'm designing and 3d printing bookmarks to sell in my Etsy shop using Midjourney and HueForge. I tried to find ways to use of some of my scrap filaments. Hope you guys enjoy :)
Final prints shown at the very end!
Thank you guys so much for watching, we finally made it past 5000 subscribers and are now on the road to 10,000! It would really mean a lot to me if you subscribed and joined me on my 3d printing journey.

I really dislike AI replacing artists but this is too smart for me to dis, way to go
It is incredible how in 2024 one can go from idea to sales so fast and with very limited "artistic skills". It really shows the power of technology (and how much young people like you benefit from learning about it).
True
I'd really like a hueforge video, I like the way you explain yourself. Just my vote 👍
When you said you listened and didn’t throw out the scraps you got my thumbs up! 😊
Gotta listen to the comments lol
@@macymakes3dpeople complaining about 3d printing waste have zero concept of what waste really is, but I can't blame ya for giving the viewers what they want 😂
this is one of the best tuts ive seen in sooo long well done concise to the point and not gatekeeping anything, subbed
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it :)
You know, I was just thinking I hadn't seen new videos from you in a while. You clearly don't disappoint! Thanks again and best of luck in your new product line.
I’m still here ☺️ just took a bit longer to get this one printed and up on Etsy than I thought. I’m trying to get a video out minimum every 2 weeks. Thanks for being here and watching!
This was awesome. Thank you for all of that knowledge!
Good on you for reusing those spools! If you are looking for a way to reuse empty spools, I have just the way! If you are using bambu spools, you might want to consider printing the reusable spool carousel that you can see on bambu lab's channel. Another way is to purchase refills instead of new filaments with spools on bambu lab's store, iirc, you can get 4 dollars off on a new spool, you might also be able to get some out of stock colors!
Glad to see you expanding. Thinking this is a good expansion product
Another great video. You’re quickly becoming One of my favorite channels to watch.
Very useful videos. Looking forward for the rest of the series. Great job!
Hueforge! 🙌
Great tips and tricks. Thank you. I was going to say how much I love the fish themed bookmark and then you showed all of your designs… I can’t choose a fav
I dd not expect those really really good results. Nice
And i do like the see through
Just discover your Chanel and I wanted to tell you how motivating you are. Thank you, keep the good work.
Great video. I'm impressed how you changed the color at different layers and it only changed 4 times. So much detail and little waste.
Great design, thanks for showing the process. Really, really great work 👍
Thank for this amazing video , I really enjoyed it and I hope to continue learning about 3D😊
Empty spools can be used to make stackable item drawers. There are designs for this on Thingiverse and Printibles. Each compartment can be made to slide or swing out, depending on design, it's a great project, and not too hard if you don't mind sacrificing the print time for them. Alternately if you're kinda handy, the compartments can be made from wood.
I love it, this is a great combination of different technologies 👊
this was an awesome video learned so much! Thank you !!! Will try hueforgeee soon you made it seem so easy
These look incredible, good job
They look pretty cool! Btw you got a lot of filament haha I can see why throwing filament could trigger people. A see through could be really cool and also other shapes as well , you could even personalize them as well.
Thanks for making these videos. I just got started in 3d printing and having fun with design process. Definitely taking cues from you.
That’s awesome! Thank you so much for watching ☺️
Thanks for the video. I haven't looked through all comments but AJAX has a good video explaining how he increases thickness of the base layer in Bambu slicer to get less flimsy prints without impacting a preferred finished result of the HueForge output.
great way of finish all of the leftover filament!
Love watching your videos with my sister! Ty for the tutorial!
Thank you guys so much for watching :)
Great explanation of your workflow.
Looks great!
These are very interesting and look fantastic. Thanks for sharing.
Been using Hueforge for awhile, great bit of software for 3D printing, ps its a book mark you don't want it too thick, great job
Great job so much inspiring
This was a great video! Keep sharing your journey :)
i really like your videos macy. so authentic and great insights in your workflow. I am running a 3dprint shop on etsy as well and your videos are very inspiring. Actually i have an old but heavily customized ender3 and becaus of your videos i think i will buy at least one bambu lab this year :)
That’s awesome! The bambus are amazing. It’ll transform your printing
I accidentally find your tutorial and it is really good. This is the first time I know how to change color at which layer height I want. BTW we are using the same 3d printer P1S. Thank you.
Wow thanks for the video very inspiring I’m getting a 2 Bambu printer in few weeks looking forward to the Multi-printing.
Wow fantastic explanation! You definitely earned a sub😊
you explained HueForge better than the creator of HueForged did, makes more sense to me now. Thanks
Thank you :) Glad you enjoyed the video!
I have an X1C as I replaced my ender 3 with it, I have primarily used single color as I print supports and one off jobs, but seeing you use multiple colors makes me want to try. You break it down and make it look so simple. Great Job.
Thank you 😊 multi color printing is so fun you should definitely give it a try!
My mind was blown when you chanced your colors with the layer slider on the preview screen…
Didn’t know you could do that! So much easier than having to paint and guess what layer you’re drawing on 😎👍
Awesome! Glad that was helpful :)
Cool idea!
Yes, please do a video on HueForge!
Got it! I’ll work on one 😊
You're on that entrepreneurial game! love it
Amazing video!
Great video!!! The empty filament rolls should be good for office decor. Hang them on the walls in a nice pattern 😊
Great job. Comments sections are merciless these days well done for making it a win. 🏆 ❤
I'd love to see more information on HF. Seems like a very helpful tool.
Hello from France Macy, very cool video, learned quite a bit!
Hello! Thank you so much for watching ☺️
Great video. Thank you for your understanding positively transforming our comments into inspiring content..!!
Use the empty rolls for rolling extension cords and cables.
This is pretty interesting! I've been making pseudo-woodblock prints by using rendered grayscale images (or color ones that I've converted and adjusted the exposure and contrast) and just bringing them directly into Cura. Cura will then ask you if you want the darker parts to be elevated and the lighter lowered or visa versa. It's simple but it's also a quick way to print out fonts for 3D signs and car/motorbike emblems. From here you can use them as-is, or use polystyrene and a vacu-former for something a little more weather-hardy if you're using PLA like I am.
HueForge video please :)
Great video, loved it!
wow awesome!
Thanks for sharing❤
great video, this is the first time I understand how the Hueforge actually worked, so yes please make a full tutorial if you did not already made one :) Subscribed btw ;)
Awesome stuff! Bookmarks are hot right now, have no idea why lol maybe lots of readers !
actually inspirating
I love you. Thanks for this great info
1:48 I heard about this somewhere else, still need to try it myself. I’ve been saving my empty spools to roll my Christmas lights onto. There’s probably a little clip you could print also (using the last little bits of filament) that clips onto both the spool and the end of the lights to keep them from unraveling. Like I said, I havent tested this yet but it seems like it would work well!
Would love to see your process for making a name plate
You said “Dive” talking about fish bookmarks!! 😂
Hey! I've been featured! lol
Omg, I was struggling with printing my 2d art on products. Never heard of HueForge, ffs it changed my complete workflow!
I think bookmarks are a good category to add to your product theme of teacher table top accessories.
Try a top surface pattern of hilbert curve for your hueforge prints
And lastly there are ways to 3d print on top of transparency paper.
You could use a laser/inkjet printer to print designs on transfer film, mount it on the build plate and 3d print the bookmark ontop of it.
It wouldn't be 3d but you'd have a cool design that supports more colors and it would probably print way faster.
That sounds pretty interesting. I’ll look into it and see what I can come up with!
Hey, thank you for the video. Do you have any alternative suggestions for adobe illustrator? As a college student I have access to the entire autodesk library but don't know what would be the best alternative.
Burn the rolls!❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
Great video! How many of these did you sell on Etsy?
These look pretty cool, I'll have to try out HueForge. I wonder if this could somehow be used to make lithophane prints more realistic.
Also, I couldn't exactly tell from the settings I saw in your video, but it looks like you may have used rectilinear patterns for the top surface infill based on the way the light reflects off of the surface of the bookmarks and accentuates regions of darker/lighter patches of infill which were laid in different directions. If so, you could try using the monotonic infill instead, which ensures it lays down the lines all in one direction and dramatically increases the visual consistency of the top surface.
In any case, I've been enjoying your videos and keep it up :) giving you support from Holly Springs, NC.
Wow thank you I’ll give that a try! Once it says “can’t use that infill at 100%” I assumed it had to be the rectilinear since that what it changed to but now it know. ☺️
Yes, please, a tutorial on how to change the color without AMS. thanks a lot!!!!
Im glad youre liking the software and found some use in it. If you need help doing nameplates with the software, thats also an option, and a lot of people in discord have been putting hueforges on regular models
Yes! I used some of the patterns on nameplates I just haven’t listed them yet. Might make a video for it bc they’re really cool!
Was wondering if you were going to add tassels, those bookmarks look great! Given the post processing work though I wonder if it’s a moneymaker.
I’ve created a version with tassels(you’ll see them in the last 30 sec of the video) but I haven’t listed those on Etsy yet. I agree with you that I’m not sure if it’s worth the hassle of keeping them in stock. I’m waiting to see if the non tassel listings sell well enough before adding the tassel versions.
Remember with HF you need to have the commercial license to be able to sell prints. Good process! Looking forward to see how it works out for you
Yep I have the lower tier commercial license to sell prints but not files. All good there.
Have you tried turning on ironing? Pro's is it would leave a really nice surface finish but con's are the extra time per print. Would be cool to see how it effects the overall look and feel of the bookmark !
I haven't. Mainly due to the extra time.
I have them stacked everywhere I might build house with them one day lol! how do you get Etsy to show you all the results? mine just say 1000+ not the actual number.
Definitely make a cat one
First of all, I'll let you know that it has nothing to do with the channel, it's just a rant about the world of 3D printing.
Today, I bring a different perspective on 3D printers, based on the research I carried out.
I came to a conclusion that I would like to share.
I have a comment about the world of 3D printing, which, contrary to what some say about accessibility, is still a world for few. Despite the criticism I may receive for this, I believe that although printers have become more affordable, there is still a long way to go before they become an achievable dream for many people, including myself.
It's not just the initial cost of the printer that must be considered. An often overlooked point is the ongoing cost of the filament. Just like in the early days of inkjet printers, where the price of ink was an obstacle, today we face similar challenges with filament. Even though printers have become a little cheaper, filament remains a considerable investment.
It is notable that over the years we have not seen a significant reduction in filament prices. There appears to be a lack of real competition, resulting in companies setting prices almost like a monopoly. Filament quality is also a concern, with reports of poor quality not justifying the investment.
Another aspect that is rarely addressed is the amount of material wasted due to unsuccessful prints, especially for beginners. Even though errors decrease over time, they do not disappear completely. This is a relevant point to consider, as it contributes to additional costs and not to mention environmental issues.
That's why I say it and I repeat, cast the first stone if anyone who has never been through this, even with vast experience, still prints with errors and has to do it all over again, no matter the printer or your knowledge, there will be errors and as a result waste of material and input costs. what we need and start thinking about this issue, well the filament should be cheaper or there should be a collection of inputs by suppliers especially those that went wrong or leftovers that new printers leave to make multicolor parts and why not buy back the material, it would help the person who bought it and nature thanks you.
well, looks like i'll be looking into hueforge! Per bookmark, are you using just one AMS/4 colors, or do you have multiple AMS units connected?
great tutorial...ty!
I only have one AMS per printer. If it uses more than 4 colors I just add pauses so I can switch out filament from earlier slots. Like if it needs 5 colors I'll add a pause when it's printing in slots 3 or 4 so I can put new filament in slot 1 for color 5 to use. 6 would go in slot 2, 7 in slot 3, and continuing on.
@@macymakes3d understood, makes perfect sense! It sounds like there is a fair amount of babysitting the print?
Do you have the problem with the rounded corners of the bookmark looking jagged instead of a smooth rounded edge?
Id love to get some good insight into Hueforge. Ive tried learning it but really could use some guidance.
Got it. I’ll work on a video for you guys 😊
just a observation, you might want to consider for the bookmarks using the process devin from make anything channel uses to create his phone cases it produces a similar effect to hueforge but since its kind of a reverse printing (the bottom is the face up portion) its completely flat. I say this as it appears that some of your designs (space, pickle, etc.) have raised parts (little dots here and there, etc.) and lower areas, and if used in a book i would expect to be little pressure points on the paper and would indent them (emboss/deboss) those areas and people might get pissed if your book marks "ruined" their pages... (i know people can be weird/finicky!) I too am making bookmarks but unlike you mine are a mere 1 or 2 mm in thickness (so they are flimsy, but its plastic so it works!) and currently the only "pattern" i'm using are the patterns on the various build plate surfaces you can buy off amazon and i'm printing them in transparent petg and then attaching a ribbon and maybe a tassel. :D Keep up the great work on the videos and looking forward to seeing your outcome in Etsy for these (price and sales stats)!
Definitely something I’ll be working on. I hadn’t thought about the texture ruining pages of books. Just forces me to have to learn face down printing now lol
hello , bonjour de france ,j ai bien aimé la technique elle est tres inspirante , salutatons
Are the edges of those Overture spools lined with tape?
Yeah electrical tape
Do these break easily?
I went to look up hueforge and they have different versions. Which one did you purchase to be able to use for selling. Thanks.
I did the $45 option so I could sell prints. If you want to sell the files you’ll need to do the $100 version
thanks@@macymakes3d
Any chance you could do a video about your process for shipping?
Yes I plan on doing a full shipping video, and I plan on including the shipping process in my next bookmark video too since it’s quite a bit different than my nameplates.
Great Idea and nice example on how to find out a niche to go with
You should buy filament in refill packs, then you won't have the spool trash.
You're awesome Macy....quickly becoming one of my favorite YT channels. My only criticism is you always go waaaay too fast for me! I'm an old guy, I don't pick up this stuff very fast....trying to learn 3 programs at once (Onshape, Inkscape and Meshmixer) LOL.
I've seen a lot of Hueforge, but have never tried it. I finally did my 1st 2 color prints, simple 'ornament style' w/ raised letters/image. And I'm trying my 1st 3 color right now (similar w/ a single color base and the raised parts in 2 colors). Then I need to try upside down, w/ all colors flat on the same level.
Hopefully I can do some slower tutorials for you one day. That’s awesome you’re starting to get the hang of the multicolor prints. I’m starting to mess with face down printing. Hopefully I’ll get a video out on that soon.
@@macymakes3d Can't wait to see your face down prints. I may try one this wk if I can figure it out.
I've been thinking of trying to use "printer poop" and some kind of mold to turn it into something useful like a bookmark. Have you ever tried something like that?
I haven’t but I’d like to try melting it down sometime
This is a great idea!! It even inspired me to give it a go myself. however I am running into issues.... When Hueforge spits it out, the curvature of my graphic is not there, it still tries to print the hard edge.. you can see the outline of the curvature in the print, but it still has a wonky hard edge. Any ideas as to what might cause this?
Not sure. Maybe the image you're importing isn't a png? If it's a jpeg it'll have a border but besides that I'm really not sure.
@@macymakes3d yeah it’s a png. I am not sure either. But I have normally just been exporting svg. So I am sure I am missing a step or something.
one more thing to note, the png file doesn't have the corners... I only see that when I get the file into hue forge. Not sure if anyone could explain this or not?
My wife works for a primary school and takes empty spools to school. The children use those to make stuff
Mane shawty blowing up
Maybe my favorite comment I’ve ever gotten 😂
Thanks amazing... you'll already know that when you personalize something that you could earn more so perhaps providing the option to add that personalization at an additional cost would bring you more $$$$$
Yes! Just have to decide if it’s worth the time being such a low price point
How much do you sell them for?
I have some ideas to use rolls and leftover filament also i have some designs that would be interesting to make ... if there is a way i could send all these privatly ... !!
Message me on Etsy!
I don't sell on etsy, but I would like to know what type of filament you use for your flexible bookmarks?
Just normal PLA, but the bookmarks are so thin that they're floppy.
I'm trying to print a hueforge bookmark on my a1 mini. I keep having issues. What size nozzle do you use for these?
The standard 0.4. What issues are you having?
@@macymakes3d My first layer keeps peeling up as the printer is going. I've cleaned the textured bed twice, but it keeps happening. I've changed the nozzle to the .2mm, but I could try using a glue stick?
@@macymakes3d I also have the A1 Mini
I am curious on which Hueforge license that is recommended to be able to sell things like this?
The limited commercial ($45) allows you to sell prints. The professional commercial ($100) allows you to sell the files.
@@macymakes3d ok, thanx! 😊
I keep getting "patterns cannot contain linked object(s). Please embed the object(s) and try again." Any ideas ?
used --tile
When you import an image make sure you’re doing it by “place embedded” and that’ll embed your image. If it says it’s linked you need to embed it before you can use it. Should be at the top
I give my empty spools to my neighbor, who is a kindergarten teacher. They use them for crafts.
