  • Welcome back to another DAY IN THE LIFE video of my 3d print farm. In this video I'm cleaning and organizing my print shop after a VERY busy Christmas season. I'm also doing a full, follow along build of the new Bambu Lab A1 combo 3d printer, and building 2 more risers for my Bambu Lab AMS units.
    Thank you guys so much for watching, we're on the road to 5000 subscribers so it would really mean a lot to me if you subscribed and joined me on my 3d printing journey.

    If you load two filament rolls with the same color you can set the AMS to continue with roll 2 when the first one is empty. A way to save a lot of waste.😄

      I’ve tried that, and it’s definitely something I do if I’m just printing for myself, but it leaves a hard line in the print once it switches rolls and I can’t sell an item like that. I’ll try it and show it to you guys in a later video

I just loaded the nearly dead ones into slot 1-3 and a full roll into slot 4. As long as I was using the same brand I didn't notice any line in the them at all, this was on a P1S so basically the same printer you have.

    I love the A1. I think my wife would kill me if I buy any more printers though! Hah. With that leftover filament. There is another CZcamsr Morley Kert that about a year ago did a series where he'd take a portable 3d printer setup to a park or Cafe and people could bring their broken items in and he'd repair them for free using parts printed on his 3d printer. Might be able to reach out to him and see if he is still doing it or if he knows anyone else that is doing it and then donate all the left overs to them. Might be able to do a bit of partnering to drive some additional traffic to your CZcams channel if you're donating the stuff you're throwing out anyway and they'll do a shout out.

    One minor tip, with those overture rolls when they get lighter they seem to have problems spinning in the ams as they get too light. I found sticking something in the middle to weigh them down a bit lets you use the last bit of filament, and eliminates the line you sometimes get (which happens when the ams takes longer to load the spool due to it not spinning correctly). It's not foolproof but helps a bit. I tend to use the ones with very little on them for any small items that only have a color change right on the last couple of layers.

    I just made it to the end of the video and seen how you routed the ptfe on you p1p, I’d suggest you find the cable chain set on printables and print the ptfe tubing guide and also print a long 90 degree ptfe tube guide. I had an issue with both the tubing rubbing on the metal frame and the tube sagging and rubbing on the carbon rods doing it that way. As you run your printers a lot like I do it seems like an easy upgrade to prevent misery down the road.

  • @75keg75
    @75keg75 Před 5 měsíci +1

    1:18 get yourself a mosaic pallet (doesn’t the bambu ams do end of roll use) or something to join roll ends to make multicolor parts for raw display or spray painting. Sell as a product or something. Roll end figurine or name signs (surely there will be a teacher out there that would like a sign made from “waste”… ) price it a little higher to counter the time spent dealing with each roll end.
    Aside from wasting good filament and the enviro considerations. It’s wasted material you’ve paid for and you may as well use it up - but perhaps the time to deal with roll end vs what you recover is not worth it.
    As you have Bambu’s with all their waste perhaps you could get a filament extruder (cnc kitchen had a good one albeit another pricey) and recover full rolls..
    Alternative to landfill - donate to a local school or maker space.

      @macymakes3d  Před 5 měsíci +1

    • @macymakes3d
      @macymakes3d  Před 5 měsíci

      The A1 is super quiet. All 4 p1ps running does cause some noise but you can't really hear them upstairs (they're in the basement) so it's not too bad. I can kinda film with them running but you can definitely still hear them in the background.

    • @EmbIazon
      @EmbIazon Před 5 měsíci

      And if you’re not comfortable with that, for whatever reason, there’s a vertical stand you can print that works really well and is even more stable than the stand that came with the Lite. And with that, you can have it behind the printer, instead of next to the printer. That’s how I have my A1 mini set up.

    Very good video and I will not go back on the other comments speaking about the leftovers. I wanna advise about the way you have passed the PTFE and câbles inside the metal panel of the p1s. The movement will cut your PTFE and cable, you would better pass them inside the hole of your printed riser.

Only thing I don’t like is lack of tools for painting parts but they could always add more.

    Impressive Macy. I have an Anycubic Kobra Max and I3 Mega. Now also have the A1 (not unboxed yet).
    I started using my Kobra Max (Dec-23) which then refused to print after a months of prints. I changed the hot end 4 times, checked the cable plugs around the head, check the cables for kinks and auto leveling would throw up errors which made no sense for what I could see.
    Tried everything I could find on the net with no success and then in my frustration of trying fixing it I ordered another Kobra Max this time the '2' version, however It dawned on me much later (after I order the new one) that maybe the plug was the issue and so I re-flowed the cable socket and wham it works again. Damn need to be more free thinking before ordering new stuff.
    Now I have been successful so far with the fixed Max and hopefully the A1 will add more capabilities to my growing list of printers.
    My question for you is how do you keep the filaments dry enough for printing after they are opened, noting the A1 and the non-AMS printers both have exposed filaments. Do you intend to buy a pre-made version or are looking to build you own?

    • @macymakes3d

    Why do you trash all those spools?! 😱 The AMS is perfect to use the spools to the end. Just dry them and use them. What about the silica bags? Just dry them and they are perfect to stay inside the spools that have slots and help them stay dry. Probably I'm stating the obvious and you just don't care all the trouble 😂

      This is just the rolls with less than 30 grams. I keep everything over 30 grams for future use upstairs. I can’t use multiple rolls for the nameplates I sell because it leaves a hard line in the print when the filaments change and that’s not sellable. I don’t really print much besides nameplates so it’s tough for me to keep hundreds of “empty” rolls because I dont have that much space. I’m going to try and come up with some smaller things to print and use up some of the waste now that I’ve seen how much you guys care about it ❤️

      @@sibertiger17I've had that issue with some filament, my sunlu pla silk To solve it i just had to cut the filament to into a sharp point and then the AMS lite grabbed it and pulled it though.
      Also make sure your ptfe tubes are in nice gentle arches. In other words, keep your ams lite near as possible to the printer.

      @@BennyTygohome I have tried 5 different rolls, same errors...all cut into angles...there is no bends in the tubes different than the others that work just fine...I think it's the motor in the AMS lite tool head...it makes weird sounds like it's stuck...but nothing is stuck.... Bambu service is absolutely crap...not a single response from them in weeks after multiple tickets sent in...

    Nice video. i want to buy an A1 to print with my 12y old son. But he is really sensitive to smells , allergen , pollen......and i wonder if the filaments can create micro particles or fumes or chemical vapors that can harm health.
    i hope you can comment.!

    Hey I have the same bullet reloading press and I throw away filament scraps too! I suspect the comments on this are from uh, let's just say the type of people that don't reload 😄 There's a huge overlap in the 3d printing community with real soft types. Do whatever you want, it's your money and filament and represents about a trillionth of the waste generated every day in cesspools like San Francisco, where they can't even stop pooping on their own sidewalks.

    What was the reasoning for going w/ the A1 rather than another P1? Was it just to try it? Price? Seems like a small step backwards, though I seem to have been reading that the A1 does some things better than the X1/P1....but probably some things worse too!
    Still inspiring me! So jealous of your printing success! LOL

    I was similar to you in that I essentially bought the A1 straight away. I initially had issues printing PETG from a “budget brand” but it was mainly caused by my greediness in trying to print everything super fast. I’m also unsure about my belt tension (if it’s correct or not) as I get banding when printing benchies (but not printing more organic style of prints). Otherwise I love my A1. I also have my AMS mounted on top and haven’t had any issues. My benchy issues were happening both pre and post top mount
