Thank you so much. I was powering my stereo straight from the battery and I was looking for an accessory to tap into it for the last 2 years. Not every day though. I am not affraid my wife or the kids will leave the radio on and run the battery out. Thank you Sir.
Thank you thank you!!!! I’ve looked this up, watched numerous videos and NO ONE ELSE would actually show exactly where to put that accessory wire!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I finally got a new radio in my truck! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much I spent almost a week chasing this wire one of the stupidest things Chevrolet has ever done but thanks to your video I understand now
Right on Bro! That was the perfect, easiest spot for my Avalanche. It was kinda sucking for a bit after finding all of the fuses in the driver door side panel were constant power. Got up under driver side dash and pushed my connector onto the same one you did, turned the key, and on came the radio. Thanks a bunch!
Meridith, You rock man! I spent 4 hours and started going under the hood to no avail. Not like my old '57 Belair I had back in the day. I am close to your age and agree 100%. Thank you for the vid; take care and stay safe.
Thank you Mr Lee, I put in an aftermarket my self this weekend. Then took it out. Found pins that were not giving me the required 12volts. Now waiting on Wiring diagrams to be sent to me. But this helps a great deal. Because I figured I would have to run wires to get the radio to work. Thanks.
Thanks a lot, I started at 8 pm, it is almost 2 AM I am still looking for the acc wire, thankfully I found your video, y couldn't sleep till get the job done, I have to get some wire to attach and get there under the steering wheel. But now am able to sleep well cause of you 🙏, God bless you Pa!
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS, I DIDN'T LOOK FOR 8 HOURS BUT I PULLED RADIO OUT 3 TIMES AND SEPARATED THE WIRES LOOKING FOR THAT DAMN ACCESSORY SWITCHED WIRE, NEVER FOUND IT!! BUT NOW I KNOW WHERE TO PICK IT UP FROM, THANKS BROTHER
Thank you so much sir! After $72.00 spent on wiring harness and cussing wasting 2 days of nonsense. Your video helped me. Thank you so much and God bless you
Thanks a bunch was one of the only videos I could find from my 2013 Chevy Silverado that actually had useful information And I definitely agree I don't understand why they make it so difficult Knowing that people change out stock radios all the time.
From one old school guy to another I had the same damn problem with this piece of crap 2011 Silverado and I connected the accessory wire to where you said and my problem is solved I really appreciate it sir. I even put a 10 amp fuse on it..
I know this is an older video but I wanted to let you know that I just purchased a 2011 Silverado and m and ASE certified mechanic and the way things are all interconnected with each other can be extremely frustrating and detrimental to adding the most simplest of things. Keep your head up partner
thank you for this, now i can fix my 04 silverado aftermarket radio to work correctly. some other guy figured out the brown wire to the climate control works for radio power but it only has power with key on and not in accessory position so if using that brown wire for power i cant sit in truck and have a radio unless i start the engine
Thanks!!! I was telling my son there has to be a hot going into the factory stereo and I was wrong. I think I'm going to get a truck from the 70's or 80's next time and just fix it up.
Good man keep it up thank you so much i have a customer im working on his truck and the converter box stopped working right for some reason but now i can wire it correctly and neatly thank you so much
I feel you man, had same experience moments ago, luckily found your video. I pinned every damn wire before internet searching and found this. Thank you, saved me hours.
The little things are called Female Terminal Connectors bro it plugs right in once you crimp it to your wire incase you dont know what they are its those yellow, blue ,red, ends you attach to the wires , google it you can find then anywere basically think of a door speaker ... same type of plug n play
@@sidewayzstang4602 thanks man this shit has got me frustrated lol. First stereo I've ever put in and it happens to be with a complicated car like this
@@sidewayzstang4602 thats good to here tbh. I thought I was just a lil slow 😂 it was a good learning expirience though with wiring and electrical systems in general. Next I'll be doing the speaker system
Thanks for the info, I can relate to your frustration. I had the same issue when I installed a head unit in my truck. I am glad to know about this switched lead under the dash. I had to run a wire through the firewall from the fuse box under the hood before, since I had found keyed power in that fuse block. The location you pointed out is way easier to access in comparison to get a lead from.
i have been trying to put in a Chinese stereo for about a week now, only figuring out recently if I apply 12V to the accessory wire it will boot up, but not on its own with the key even though it has the full time power to it through the factory connector. Mine also has CANBUS adapter so that makes it even more complicated, and GM has no accessory wire coming into the factory connector, only CAN data, which will wake up your factory stereo but not an aftermarket one. The harness and CAN box provided did not do this either and the company could not help me. I was also trying to do this off the interior fuse box with a fuse tap but all the fuses in there are hot at all times in the work truck edition so the radio will stay on forever. Will try your way. Thank you for the video.
thank you I've been putting stereos in cars and trucks since i was 16 and I'm 53 now i cursed Chevrolet all day because i couldn't find an accessory wire in the stereo wiring harness thanks chevy for the headache
Yo tengo una Tahoe 2012 y le voy a cambiar el radio y ponerle amp y no le encontré el cable para sacar la corriente en los fusibles pero la con su vídeo me ayudó mucho gracias muchas gracias
Thank you sir I have been looking for a week and cant find anything except light wires meaning i had to turn on my park lights to get power to my radio i have the same truck 2011 thanks
no fuse would be needed that i can tell i believe it is fused underhood with 15 amp. but if you want to add just hide it so someone don't kick the wire and pull out circuit.
I feel the frustration. all the videos on how EASY it is to install the radio and I've been stuck for 2 months. BUT, I have no idea how to do what you did, I can take another 2 months to learn, might just forget about it ;(
kenneth you want to use a relay to send power to the radio and not just run the wire straight to radio because that pin cant handle all the power the radio needs
Well I appreciate you making this video. There is supposed to be a "mobile radio provision blunt cut" somewhere under the dash to tap into. I'm only 61 and I can't find anything that fits that description. However I do see the box you pointed out near the brake pedal so I'll look there with my multi-meter. For now, I am powering a GPS and I want it to turn off when I turn off the key. The two power outlets in the dash are always on. How dumb is that? There are two, at least one could be switched, right? Later I might install a dual band ham radio and I'll need a good source of switched power for that. Mine's a 2013 Silverado WT. I understand that starting in the 2014 model, you can make the accessory outlets switched by changing the position of the fuse that powers them.
Love it!! Made a video cause he was so damn mad, cant see straight LMAO. I am right there with you, I deal with big equipment and cranes, this newer crap I have to hire outside guys with certain qualifications to plug their computer in to tell me its the relay. Why cant I just buy that program for my laptop? Way cheaper than calling a tech every 3 days. Don't get me started on DEF.....
anyone thinking about doing this needs to know this connection does not have enough power to run the radio, its meant to power a relay only so hook a relay to it and run battery power to the relay to power the radio
I know this is a super old comment I just did this then went back and saw your comment after completing it. What will happen if I don't go back and do a relay?
@@salvatorepadovano1405 for just a radio, run a power wire through the dash to the fuse box going behind the gauge cluster and then buy one of those 2 fuses into one fuse tap connectors and you have fused power to your radio. its super easy. none of the wires in the dash will work correctly so go straight to the fuse box for power
Yeah it’s kind of annoying. I found ignition switch power on a wire only to find out later it was wired into the headlight switch so every time I turned off the headlights the radio turned off 🥴
That fact that you’re 75 and in good health enough to fiddle with a radio for 8 hours is a blessing in disguise!

I totally agree. It’s complete bullshit! Why would I pay 160$ for a harness on something that should be so simple
Gm is so backwards with so many things.
I'm slightly confused to why not just get a harness to aftermarket radio and then go off aftermarket wires
Just need a harness and dask kit shouldnt be to hard
