  • Installing a Pac RP5-GM31 on a 2011 Chevy Silverado Z71 with factory Bluetooth and backup camera.
    After the video, I realized that the factory mic for Bluetooth was not going to work. The aftermarket mic that is supplied with your stereo will need to be installed. You may also need to reprogram your stereo wheel controls in order to utilize all functions.

    Man! Thank you so much for making this video! I’ve spent two days trying to figure out what I did wrong. I hooked everything up but my sound was super low. That’s when I watched your video and saw that there was a plug in for amplified and non amplified on the p5 adapter thanks to you pointing it out in the video. I took it apart and checked, I had it plug into the amplified instead of the non amplified ( my truck doesn’t have a built in amp). Once I switched it my sound was back to normal! Thanks again!

    Thanks for the info! I saw this video the other day, but watched so many that day. When my radio and kit (I went with the iDataLink Maestro RR) came in, I didnt have the connector for the video feed at the radio plugs as mine, like yours is in the rear view mirror. So I spent 2 hours today trying to find this video again to find the location and colors for the video feed connector. Anyways, that info helped out tremendously, and the video works flawlessly on both my in-dash and my mirror!

  • @markc1310
    @markc1310 Před 6 lety

    Thanks for sharing the video. It was helpful. I test your theory on the Bluetooth. My new unit did the same thing. I'm guessing the old stereo blue tooth info mast be saved on the onboard computer and it screws it up. So I deleted all blue tooth devices that were programmed before installing the new JVC Touch Screen double din. It is similar to what you have and it sits in from the mount too. Not quite as deep as yours, but still deeper than being flush like the old radio (Maybe 1/16"). All in all with the RP5GM31 unit, my OnStar and steering wheel controls came right up. I didn't have to do any single button programming. One item I am still struggling with. I tried plugging in those same RCA connections for XM. My head has preouts for highs , mids and lows. (No other outputs besides the speakers) I plugged it into the middle preouts and its very faint. I can hear it, but it must need to be amplified. There is an XM port on the new head unit, but it takes a special adapter I didn't know about that looks similar to an S-video but with more pins. All in all everything is working well, but for some reason, the remote cable isn't kicking in my amp for my sub. I ran out of time tonight installing and it was the one thing I didn't test before putting everything back together (grrr). Waiting for the AMP wire kit to show from UPS this evening. I have it connected from the JVC head (Blue/white remote), to the RP5GM31 unit (Blue/white remote), and also a lead coming off for the amp. But for some reason it isn't feeding the amp relay. I'm wondering if I needed to plug into the amplified port on the RP5GM31, even though my truck didn't have it before. But it does now. So I have a couple little items to trouble shoot in the morning. I ran out of light tonight. All in all the RP5GM31 is worth the money to keep OnStar and SWC. It made it very easy. Luckily I had the space to slide it up and out of the way when putting the head in the dash. Its tight, but I didn't have to cut anything out. Thanks again for sharing, I watched this and a couple other personal installs a couple times while waiting for parts. It helped and went pretty quickly.
    Also, as Body shot says. The Amazon kit did come with the antenna adapter. Cheers

Needed to jump it. Now it says traction control needs servicing. Did I screw up the communications in the car or was this just a coincidence that the battery died. I have this same RP5-GM31 with antenna adapter. The sound is really low, do you know why that would be?

    • @ramzsgarage316
      @ramzsgarage316  Před 3 lety

      Multiple reasons. A loose speaker wire, speakers could be blown, or something in the settings.

  • @MattNEuem

    I purchased the Best Buy kit. I called PAC they said Best Buy requested the kit without antenna adapter. Assuming so they can sell it to you. Annoying as hell. They should have changed the part number to differentiate the 2.

    • @markc1310
      @markc1310 Před 6 lety

      I cant say for the traverse it may be different. But Every model I have seen on both aftermarket stereos and aftermarket cameras are purple with white stripe. Purple with white stripe is the camera reverse signal. And a composite yellow video input for the video input to the stereo. Usually says CAM VID. But you can pretty easily look it up. Just pull up your stereo model number wiring diagram. It should tell you.

    Is the SWC input the same thing as a W/R input? I purchased a PAC RP5-GM11 to use with a Pioneer AVH-1330NEX, and the head unit does not have a jack that says SWC. - Thank you!

    • @PaulLukasiewicz
      @PaulLukasiewicz Před 7 lety

      No my subwoofers, the SWC (steering wheel control.) The new Pioneer has a W/R port (wired remote.) I assume that would be the same thing so I could control the new stereo from my steering wheel.

    • @PaulLukasiewicz
      @PaulLukasiewicz Před 7 lety

      Ah! That makes sense. Yes, the Pioneer stereo has rica jacks labeled SWR and SWL. The W/R port is a 3.5 jack. Thank you for your help! The stereo should be arriving next week. Can't wait to get started!
