- Sound Transit's highly anticipated 2 Line is officially up and running. It brings light rail to the east side for the first time, connecting passengers to stations throughout Bellevue and Redmond.
"This is literally decades in the coming. So now I have easy ways to connect to Redmond without traffic," said Hanoch Yeung, who was one of hundreds of people who made their way to the Bellevue Downtown Station.
It's one of eight stations located throughout Bellevue and Redmond, as part of Sound Transit's 2 Line. It’s finally opening after voters approved the east link extension in 2008 and breaking ground in 2016.

I’m astounded by the fact that it took 8 years to break ground on this project, love to see that a portion is open though!
The I-90 section is a floating rail bridge, and it's the first of its kind in the world. So with something that new, I would be happier if they took their time so we don't have trains ending up underwater. I believe the plan was originally to wait until the I-90 section was complete before even opening this line, but the mayors decided to fight for the already finished section to open early.
@@CityLifeinAmerica that’s what I figured, I do think it would’ve been less costly and quicker if they just went with a separate bridge for the east link, kind of like the sky bridge we have here in Vancouver for our skytrain.
I wonder what Dori Monson would say. Miss him.
1:36 As a Newton, Massachusetts resident, I love that MBTA tote bag. Dare I say Sound Transit is much better than the MBTA itself at the moment.
Even some small agency in Ohio is better than MBTA. They really need a top down replacement of their administration, because wow.
Yay
Wohoo
YESSS more public transit!!!
Wait, so it doesn't even go to Seattle?!
not yet. they've been having trouble with the rail and electrical on I-90
Not yet. The concrete of the I-90 bridge wasn't strong enough for the light rail, so they have had to reinforce that concrete with steel or something.
It has to cross over lake Washington on a floating bridge, the first of its kind in the world, so there were some unforeseen consequences.
they fucked up the bridge section, so that section's coming later. Eventually it'll go to Seattle when they finish rebuilding it, but they went ahead and opened up the starter line since there isn't really any reason not to
Just swim across the lake.
I work for Inter-con The security for Sound Transit & at Bellevue/Redmond tech stations. Company is going through grievancees through our union6 & They still let druggies smoke in open public. They dont even arrest em, but they harass the black security guards working 🙄
Oh well get used to it. Democrats voted for no cash bail and justice reform...can't wait to see the addicts rapists thugs and homeless and illegal aliens living down there and tearing it up...robbing ripping and running...pft
You mean they smoke inside the trains?
@lattakia3812 yes, n piss in the elevators, touching everything, SOC- Sound Transit Security Operations don't care or rarely have anyone comes clean it, To hell with that
Enough of this sad world syndrome.
@@lattakia3812 Don't want to diminish whatever union and discrimination problems are going on, but Link is easily one of the cleanest metros in the US (at least the 1 Line). They've massively increased security and fare enforcement and it shows
Imagine having the pleasure to be paying to go to work
Isn’t that like paying for gas?
How much does a car + gas + maintenance cost?
Imagine having wasted time writing out this pointless comment lol
