Thank you so much! Team builds and team mechanic guides are as needed as character builds but often much harder to find. I love RPGs for the stories, world building and exploration they contain but don’t have a particularly tactical mind. Guides like this one make the tactical RPG genre much more accessible for people like me. I’m very grateful for anything that lets me experience more of these wonderful games.

Lesson one: momentum ticks on free turns and when control goes back to who gave the free turn, so free turns are useful even if youre not doing anything with them other than buffing because you still gain momentum (this also means cassia is basically indestructible with some navigator talents because the regen can tick 3 times on her turn)

Argenta and Cassia are pretty much 100%. Pasqal most likely. I think I take rest depending on their personalities. Space Marine dude is a strong candidate as well, cause... I mean it is a Space Marine right? Heinrix must be interesting cause its Inquisition. Same with Abelard, he must be pretty heavily written into story, Rogue Trader stuff.

I think that many ppl are overthinking it. If you dont play on unfair and even then...pretty much any type of party could be ok in this game. In Beta i played all fem party on core with 100% damage and all that and my group simply "one turn" bosses. No "point of curiosity" use. Main as psyker leader. Btw, Yrliet with shuriken catapult with certain builds and buffs is like Argenta, read "broken". This game is quite easy in comparison to Pathfinder ones. The reason is stacking buffs too much to a point where you dont actually need frontline whatsoever. Imagine - my leader psyker under buffs was tanking demons like nothing. Also - the spacemarine companion kinda meh - by the time you get him, any in your team would be capable to do crapload of damage and etc. His passive is also kinda pointless bc you can end most encounters in a couple of turns. And he cant take cover - its a serious minus.

Interesting. I actually heard the opposite. But, its mainly from old cRPG fans pov, so for "ordinary" ppl it could be the case. Anyway, i just hope that the game would be good, im concerned about the second part of the game that wasnt in beta. I also hope that they added a bit more variety itemwise and they fleshed out chars that you get later in the story. Yrliet, for instance, was clearly unfinished in beta.

Nah, I always build my party based on mates' biographies and temper :)
So it's gonna be 100% loyalists squad: Abelard and Cassia (loyal to my ultra-loyal ministorum) + Heinrix (servant of the Emperor himself) + Argenta (obviously) + Pascal (doesn't seem 100% loyal but no party members left). Jae and Idira are on board but always suspected. And of course - Yrliet and Marazhai will die on the spot. Praise sanctioned hatred!
P.S. But on my second playthrough I'll definitely try to corrupt Heinrix (and I know there is a potential).

Funny that you have Ulfar as the best ranged damage dealer when the companion reveal trailer from Owlcat heavily pushes him as a melee fighter, what with him being a space wolf and all. Not that anyone would expect an astartes to be bad at using a gun or anything.
I hope that rather than include an option to disable ship combat, they just make it good enough that no one wants to turn it off. Crusade management in PF2 was.... OK? People blew it out of proportion as to how bad it was.
It sucked as Lich, because the crappy 10 skeletons you get after a fight is a joke alongside the massive 50% debuff you get to troop replenishment, and I very nearly softlocked my crusade into a corner early after taking Drezen. Then having all those skeletons spawn would make the army list go off the top of the screen unless you wasted countless minutes moving the tiny groups of undead around and combining them - which was also necessary to avoid getting stuck in chains of 10+ loading screens as invading armies mop up countless tiny skeleton bands one after the other along the road to your towers. Even once i started getting undead cavalry, the raise dead perk was still more of a chore than a bonus and I absolutely would have turned it off if I could - even if it meant I kept the 50% nerf to unit growth. However, I didn't have an issue with the alternate gameplay being in the game, and on occasion it was even a nice break (usually after wasting an hour trying a respec that didnt work out as planned, or after finally beating one of PF2's many unfair combat encounters :p) that was motivated by the prospect of some cool loot - although again, I wish the game gave tooltips of the different crafting outcomes right from the _first_ choice, instead of forcing you to use the wiki to know what you're actually making before it's too late. Pretty much every issue I had with crusade management could be characterized as a quality-of-life niggle rather than a fundamental rejection of the mode.
If Owlcat can make a more polished "grand scale" battle system in RT that feels more like an integral part of the game, there'll be no reason to turn it off or review-bomb the game over it.

    • @CrazyxEnigma
      @CrazyxEnigma Před 8 měsíci +2

The most interesting part of Crusade management was the council sessions themselves. Gave depth to the party members who were part of it and the situations and rationales for each characters thoughts on how to resolve these situations were good. Every Mythic Path got unique flavor in regards to unit composition it's just the battles themselves were dull and uninteresting with little strategy required to actually win. Just grab a mage general and fireball the enemy armies to death to save yourself time imo.

    • @SirCanuckelhead

@@CrazyxEnigma "the battles themselves were dull and uninteresting with little strategy required to actually win. Just grab a mage general and fireball the enemy armies to death to save yourself time imo." I mean if you choose to only use fireballs, is it the game that is dull and uninteresting with strat, or is that the person who is using said strat?
I don't blame you tho, Setsuna Shy is a monster and makes that part of the game so much easier but if you do not use mage generals, I find the combat to need a lot more strategy and more threatening, aka more interesting.
Like most things in WOTR, there is no real balance between the tools you have access to, in the end it is up to the player to what they use to handle the difficulty they are on.

It's not just the trailer, he straight-up was a Warrior/Vanguard in the Beta and his companion bio that's still up on the website includes this tidbit, "Though he excels in all forms of warfare, his Fenrisian nature beckons him into close combat, where he can stare into the eyes of his dying prey."
My theory is that he was originally planned to be melee-focused, but at some point they overviewed the companion roster and realized how incredibly Warrior-skewed it was, with 4 Warriors (Abelard, Heinrix, Marazhai, Ulfar), while only having a single Marksman (Argenta), so since Ulfar already had a bit of a "capable at everything" gimmick, they switched him into a Marksman for the final release, so the final Companion base-Archetype breakdown is 3 Warriors, 3 Operatives, 2 Officers, 2 Marksmen, a lot more balanced.

Yea, its kinda insane that a Space Wolf SM (a chapter who's main characteristic is to go into melee and fight like a wolf / berserker) is built for ranged combat. I'll prob find mod that turns him into a melee character (and also reasonably balanced) unless theres a specific story reason why he's built for ranged.

the not so fun thing is, that if you really role play the game, than you cant take Cassia anywhere. She is your only navigator and those are quite rare and precious to begin with. no one in their right mind would ever risk one. The Navigator is usually better protected on the ship than its captain.
Same goes for Pascal. if he were not integral for the ship workings, than yeah, take him with you. At least the toaster loving redshirt can be replaced easier lorewise. every world has a few thousand of them running around.
but yeah, when it comes to builds: 2 warriors, 2 soldiers, 1 non psi buffer, 1 psyker is what i run. 2 psykers + whatever psikers the enemy has just stacks the demonic meter way too fast and the last i want is demons spawning or a killed psiker on a miscast.
